According to new research, stretching might be the key to a longer life. A team at the Exercise Medicine Clinic in Brazil used a flexibility assessment tool called the Flexitest to evaluate the range of motion across 7 major joints in the bodies of test subjects. These included the ankles, knees, hips, trunk, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. By combining the scores from all these movements, they created a “Flexindex” score to represent an individual’s overall body flexibility. Here’s what they found: those with higher Flexindex scores had a significantly lower risk of death during the follow-up period. The results were particularly pronounced at the extremes of flexibility. That means if your joints are VERY flexible, you’re very likely to live a long time. And if you’re not very flexible at all, well…they’ve got some bad news for you!

In a plot twist worthy of an awesome video game, new research suggests that gaming can actually improve your mental health. Researchers at Japan’s Nihon University say their findings “challenge common stereotypes about gaming being harmful or merely providing temporary euphoria.” In studying survey responses from 10,000 people between ages 10 and 69, they found that “gaming can improve mental health and life satisfaction across a broad spectrum of individuals.” One caveat, though: Those benefits fade after playing video games for more than 3 hours at a time.

American Horror Stories” season 4 has been given an official release date. The spin-off of Ryan Murphy’s scary drama is returning for another set of 5 unconnected episodes on October 15 on Hulu, as part of the “Huluween” event. Plot details are being kept secret for now, but newly-confirmed cast members include “White Lotus” star Michael Imperioli, Henry Winkler, “Insatiable’s” Debby Ryan, “The Arrowverse’s” Victor Garber, and more.

With little more than a slap on the wrist, Justin Timberlake now will NOT face drunk driving charges, thanks to a plea deal. Under the agreement, the singer will enter a guilty plea of a traffic violation, a far lesser charge. Additionally, Timberlake will pay a fine of around $300-500, depending on what a judge decides today. The plea deal sees the initial Driving While Intoxicated misdemeanor charge dropped. That charge carried a maximum of one year behind bars and a $2500 fine. Instead, he’ll accept punishment for Driving While Ability Impaired. Timberlake will still not be able to drive in New York for almost a year, as a result of refusing a breathalyzer.

Michael B. Jordan is following in the footsteps of Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan. He’ll star in and direct a remake of “The Thomas Crown Affair”. The new project reunites Jordan with MGM after the release of his directorial debut “Creed III,” which was a hit last year. Released in 1968 and directed by Norman Jewison, The Thomas Crown Affair starred McQueen as an art thief who falls in love with an insurance investigator, played by Faye Dunaway, who was hired to track him down. John McTiernan directed a remake in 1999 starring Brosnan and Rene Russo.

A study has found that 70% of adults say they can’t sleep when there’s a spider in the room.

As we saw last summer with the release of the movie, ‘Barbie’ still has a hold on the imaginations of girls of a certain age. With that in mind, some experts say a new Barbie-branded phone just might be the thing to help beat teen smartphone addiction. Manufacturer HMD, which also makes phones for Nokia, has launched the very pink and very basic device (imagine the classic Nokia flip phone. It’s like that – but pink!). There’s no front camera, only one game, and very limited access to the internet. HMD says it is trying to tap into what it calls a “surge” of people wanting a smaller “digital impact” on their lives. In a partnership with Mattel, the company is looking to capitalize on the emerging trend in recent years of embracing so-called ‘dumb phones’, which offer only basic text, call and camera features. The concept of taking a “digital detox” has become more popular over the last few years as consumers have sought to limit harmful effects of social media. A reviewer used the Barbie-phone for a week, and reported that it has no social media and can’t receive anything more advanced than SMS messages. That means no text messages with “read receipts” or the function to see when someone is typing – and of course the act of messaging happens much slower than with a touchscreen. As a result, she “ended up calling more people than usual, which perhaps was no bad thing.” Others, however, say instead of limiting the features on kids’ phones, we should be teaching them how to use their devices in a healthier and more controlled way. WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

While the idea of a 4-day workweek is steadily gaining steam in other parts of the world, one country is moving in the opposite direction. Greece has introduced a 6-day work week for some. New legislation now in effect gives workers the option of adding a 6th day to their work week, or working an additional 2 hours per day. Those who opt in will be paid 40% cent more than their usual wage for the extra hours worked. And experts are keeping a close eye on the move, as many other countries face similar concerns to what Greece is seeing: The so-called an economic “ticking time bomb” of the combination of a shortage of skilled workers and a shrinking population. While some see it as “potentially a good idea”, others feel a potential problem is worker exploitation – where the optional extra hours could become more of an expectation, leading to a poor work-life balance among employees.

THE LIST: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com
