Ivan Ivan of the Colorado Avalanche just became the first player in NHL history with the same first and last names. However, there have been some other notable people who share the same peculiarity: Musician DJ Khaled’s real name is Khaled Khaled. Lauren Bush, the granddaughter of former US president George H.W. Bush, married Ralph Lauren’s son, making her Lauren Bush Lauren. And even though he is a fictional character, video game star Mario’s full name is Mario Mario, according to his creator.

Sebastian Stan was tasked with gaining 15 pounds when he took on the role of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” — which he managed to do with the help of Coca-Cola. He told Entertainment Tonight: “If you drink 4 Coca-Colas a day, a lot of things happen to your body. Don’t do it.” Stan’s weight gain method of choice is somewhat appropriate, given Trump’s own love of soda. Of course, Trump doesn’t go for the sugary version — he shared in 2017 that he drinks 12 Diet Cokes a day.

It’s that time again: The Oscar host hunt is on, and according to some reports, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are in the mix. Deadline says they would be included as part of a star ensemble of rotating hosts, each — or in pairs — doing a portion of the show, as part of a plan to shake things up. Other stars who have reportedly been approached include Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and Dwayne Johnson – which isn’t much of a stretch, being that The Rock’s name comes up as a potential host pretty much every year. Would Reynolds and Jackman accept the offer? Sources say there are mixed signals as to whether the “Deadpool & Wolverine” stars are willing.

Joker: Folie à Deux” was expected to be another twisted comic book smash. But the sequel to 2019’s billion-dollar hit “Joker” is a box office disaster. After 2 weeks of release, the offbeat musical about Batman’s foe has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally. By comparison, the first “Joker” had generated almost twice that after just 3 days of release. The sequel is now projected to earn just $215 million globally by the time it leaves the big screen. Variety reports that the problem is that “Joker 2” cost $200 million to produce and about $100 million to market and distribute, meaning it won’t get anywhere close to the $450 million needed to break even in its theatrical run.

A 101-year-old man who worked as a doctor until he was 85 is sharing his secrets to a long, healthy life. William (no last name given) was born in the UK in 1922, and lives in Toronto. Here are his secrets to a long life:

1. Keeping active: He used to be an avid swimmer, and now walks and lifts 15-pound weights daily to avoid becoming immobile.

2. Eating home-cooked meals – and sardines: William still prepares all his meals. By home-cooking, he is able eat fewer ultra-processed foods. He started eating sardines at age 6, “Before they discovered omega-3s”, as he put it. Sardines also contain many nutrients.

3. Having a long and varied career: William worked as a primary-care physician, then moved into public health, and was a psychotherapist by the time he retired. He says making a career change is a good way to “stay interested”. It’s also beneficial to volunteer, have hobbies, and experience social stimulation.

IG NOBEL AWARDS, 2024:

The Journal of Improbable Research has announced this year’s “Ig Nobel Prize” winners. That’s the tongue-in-cheek celebration of unusual or dubious scientific achievements. This year’s awards…

The Botany Prize: “for finding evidence that some real plants imitate the shapes of neighboring artificial plastic plants.” (Do they also gather dust?)

The Anatomy Prize: “for studying whether the hair on the heads of most people in the northern hemisphere swirls in the same direction as hair on the heads of most people in the southern hemisphere.” (“Part”-ly correct?)

The Medicine Prize: “for demonstrating that fake medicine that causes painful side-effects can be more effective than fake medicine that does not cause painful side-effects.”

The Physics Prize: for research into the swimming abilities of a deceased trout.

The Probability Prize: for studying the results of 350,757 coin flips and determining coins are slightly more likely to land on the same side they started from.

The Physiology Prize: “for discovering that many mammals are capable of breathing through their anus.” (Well, the exhaling part is easy…)

The Chemistry Prize: “for using chromatography to separate drunk and sober worms.”

The Demography Prize: for finding that “many…people famous for having the longest lives lived in places that had lousy birth-and-death record-keeping.”

The Biology Prize: for 1941 research that involved “exploding a paper bag next to a cat that’s standing on the back of a cow, to explore how and when cows spew their milk.”

The Peace Prize — for 1960 research into whether live pigeons could be housed inside missiles, to guide their flight paths.

And by the way, while the monetary prize for an actual Nobel prize is about $1 million, Ig Nobel winners get an obsolete Zimbabwean $10 trillion bill — that’s currently selling for $22 on eBay.
