People speak about 3,000 fewer words each day compared to about 2 decades ago, according to a new study. Why? Texting. University of Arizona researchers found that between 2005 and 2018, the average number of daily spoken words dropped from 16,000 to about 13,000 — a decline that appears linked to our increasing reliance on digital communication tools like texting and social media. And the common assumption that women speak more than men held up to scientific scrutiny: The numbers show that women speak about 13,349 words per day, compared to men’s 11,950. The researchers say that’s a modest difference, though, when you consider that individuals vary in words per day from a low of fewer than 100 — to over 120,000 words per day.

Robert De Niro is set to star in the Netflix crime thriller “The Whisper Man”. Based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Alex North, it tells the story of a widowed crime writer who looks to his estranged father, a retired police detective, for help when his 8-year-old is abducted, only to discover a connection with the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” James Ashcroft (“The Rule of Jenny Pen”) is set to direct, and production is expected to start this Spring.

Harrison Ford is unfazed by the fact that the last ‘Indiana Jones’ film was a flop. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he said of the performance of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”, the 5th and final installment in the series, which opened in 2023 to an underwhelming $60.4 million at the domestic box office. Ford said: “(Stuff) happens”. I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell…I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his (butt) and stick him out there…to see what happened.” Despite the film not being as successful as the others, Ford said: “I’m still happy I made that movie.”

Tom Cruise can add a prestigious aeronautics medal to his long list of accomplishments. The star of the forthcoming “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning”, who has a known penchant for piloting, jumping and hanging off of aircraft, was honored with the Grande Medaille of the Aero-Club de France, presented to him on Saturday, for his “significant contribution to the history of aviation and inspiring future pilots.” The medal is the highest distinction from the institution, which was created in 1898. Last year, Cruise jumped off of the Stade de France to close out the Paris Olympics, in a surprising feat that blurred the lines between his fictional characters and real life.

Oomf is a slang term among the Gen Z crowd that has been pushed into the limelight recently. It has actually existed as a Twitter (now X) hashtag since 2010 as a shortform for “One of my followers”. People often use it online to talk about other social media users they interact with, and it seems now to more often mean “one of my friends”. The idea is that you could be referring to almost anyone by using the term, which means no one can assume they are the person you’re talking about – and therefore, they can’t be offended when you gossip about them. Chloe Forero, as 21-year-old content creator, made a TikTok explaining the meaning of oomf, in which she said: “I fully admit I use that to sneak-diss my friends that I can’t fully confront in person.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr3e2838

Frogs can see color – even when it is pitch-black out, scientists say. Researchers from Sweden’s Lund University say they unexpectedly discovered the “incredible super-power” of frogs. While human vision loses color in low light, they found that frogs and toads seem to have special capabilities for still seeing color – even when it is so dark that humans can’t see at all. Further experiments found that frogs use their color vision superpower to navigate out of underground passageways – and when hunting for food in the dark.
