SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
One in 10 young people schedule “worry time, says a new poll. The survey of 2,000 people in the US found that 10% of those in the Gen Z and Millennial age groups actually set aside a specific time in their day to dedicate to worrying. Just 3% of older Americans does. When asked why they slot worrying into their day, respondents said it helps to reduce the time they spend worrying, and it allows them to manage their anxiety. Scheduling worry time was also said to be good for mental health, and it limits the impact of stress on their life. Finances were found to be the #1 worry for 53% of respondents.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Helen Mirren thinks there should be more movies about real women who have operated as Secret Service agents, instead of casting a female ‘James Bond’. She told The Standard in an interview: “The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism.” She pointed out: “Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service”, and if she were running things, she’d “tell real stories about extraordinary women who’ve worked in that world.” Mirren plays a mob wife in the Paramount+ series “MobLand” to her husband portrayed by former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.
Jack Black is hosting “Saturday Night Live” for the first time in nearly 20 years this weekend — and it’s keeping him up at night. He made a stop in London for the premiere of “A Minecraft Movie” before heading to New York, and said it’s “cray cray” to be returning to Studio 8H after 2 decades. The last time Black hosted was in 2005 to promote Peter Jackson’s “King Kong.” Asked how he’s preparing, Black said: “Just you know, having lots of nightmares and night terrors.”
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know Antarctica is covered in a sheet of ice that's 7,000 feet thick? That’s about 19 football fields thick! The US Antarctic Program also says that if the ice sheet ever melted, it would raise the sea levels all across the globe to an estimated 200 feet. That’s enough to submerge much of the Gulf and Atlantic coastal areas of the US!

OF THE DAY
KFC has introduced a new clothing line.
Some US scientists have invented a device called “e-Taste”, which recreates the flavors of food and drink, allowing them to be shared remotely in a matter of seconds. They say the gadget could be used to enhance virtual reality and augmented reality systems, boosting immersive experiences. It could also be useful in biomedical research or even for “virtual food adventures”. In tests, e-Taste was seen to mimic basic flavors so effectively that its wearers matched the taste they were experiencing to its corresponding food—lemonade, cake, fried egg, coffee, and fish soup—with 87% accuracy. How does it work? It pumps liquified chemicals to the tongue, using glucose for sweetness, citric acid for sourness, sodium chloride for saltiness, magnesium chloride for bitterness, and glutamate for umami. Spiciness? They haven’t figured that one out, yet.

WEIRD NEWS
Residents of Montgomery Township, Pennsylvania, got a surprise when their town unveiled a new “traffic calming” initiative: curvy road lines that look more like a roller coaster track than a street. The wavy lines appeared on Grays Lane as part of an effort to slow down reckless drivers, but instead of making people pump the brakes, they’ve mostly just caused confusion. Officials explained on Facebook that the creative road lines were installed after repeated complaints about speeding in the area. But instead of appreciating the effort, many residents are either ignoring the lines completely…or wondering whether the road crew was “drunk” when they painted them. One driver said he tested it out, trying to follow the curves exactly – and described the experience as feeling like a ride at an amusement park. Others say they’re worried that police might mistake them for impaired drivers if they actually were able to drive within the wavy lines. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yy2tezcy
