THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
We recently went to the movies for a PG-13 movie, and the theater was full. Plus, you have assigned-seat at this theaters. In front of us were two Dads who had already watched this movie, and they talked through the entire movie. They were talking about what’s going to happen next and telling their kids, ages about 7 and 8, “Oh, watch this…watch this…”. Or they were explaining it to the kids. I went to the manager halfway through. The manager talked to them, and they got into an argument. He asked them to leave. They refused. Now everyone was missing the movie because it was getting loud and disruptive. Finally, they left. A few minutes later, I went to the restroom. One of the kids was crying. I even heard one guy say, “So what are we going to do now? Shall we wait and buy tickets to the next show so they can see the end?” Suddenly I felt awful about it. Did I do the right thing? They shouldn’t have brought those kids to the movie, but I can’t help but feel like I was a jerk. What should I have done?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
What generation would you guess leaves the most generous tips? According to a new survey, it’s Millennials, who leave tips averaging 19.49% of the bill. The poll of 2,000 Americans found that Baby Boomers are the worst tippers, with that generation leaving behind a gratuity averaging 16.40% — more than 2% less than the average of 18.85%. Gen Z? They came in right behind Millennials at 19.31%. In addition to being a little stingy when they leave tips, Boomers were also found to be the most likely age group to never tip, according to the survey. Men were found to be slightly more generous tippers than women, but women are more likely to tip for grooming services, like the hairdresser. Men are more likely to tip at hotels, and for taxis or rideshares. Despite stories of consumer backlash regarding “tipping culture in recent years, just 7% of respondents admitted they never tip in any scenario.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“The White Lotus” Season 3 is going out with the show’s longest episode to date. HBO has announced that the “White Lotus” Season 3 finale will run 90 minutes long. That means the episode will be 12 minutes longer than the series’ previous record holder, the Season 2 finale, which aired in December 2022 and clocked in at 78 minutes. The Season 3 finale will, like all of the series’ past installments, be written and directed by series creator Mike White.
Jason Momoa has confirmed that he’ll return for “Dune 3”, despite the fact his character ‘Duncan Idaho’ died in the first movie. Starring as the swordsman in 2021’s “Dune”, Momoa’s character was killed off and did not appear in “Dune: Part Two”. Speaking to ShortList, Momoa revealed that he’s preparing to return for “Dune: Part Three”, which will be an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel “Dune Messiah”. In the book, Duncan Idaho is cloned and brought back to life as an artificially created human. Dune 3 is set for release in December 2026.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth has a name? Sure, it’s a common fear to be afraid of snakes or spiders but if you have arachibutyrophobia, you're among a small percentage of people that have a fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of their mouths. This phobia also goes along with a fear of choking or a fear of sticky textures.

OF THE DAY
On TikTok, Kylie Jenner said she wants to keep her personal life private.
If you want to get a good night’s sleep, try leaving your socks on. Behavioral sleep disorders specialist Michelle Drerup says that while it seems counterintuitive, wearing socks to bed can actually lower your body temperature and help you fall asleep faster. As night approaches, core temperature begins to drop, preparing the body for sleep. Drerup explained that “by making your feet warmer, you’re…increasing the blood circulation to your feet”, resulting in a lower core temperature. A study showed that men who slept in socks fell asleep nearly 8 minutes faster and slept 32 minutes longer than those who didn’t, with fewer awakenings during the night.

WEIRD NEWS
A new dating app is promising to match you up with someone – without seeing their face. “Tribal” blurs users’ profile photos to potential matches for 72 hours. By doing this, it claims to encourages daters to focus on the person behind the screen, and foster deeper conversations, “leading to more meaningful interactions”. Created by a clinical psychologist, Tribal also functions as a friendship-finder. It connects users based on shared values, interests, and communications styles, based on scientific-based questions posed to its members. While users aren’t able to see a possible match for 72 hours, they are allowed to hear their voice, adding a layer of human connection, said the app’s creator.

THE LIST
DELICIOUS NAMES FOR “PIE CHARTS” IN OTHER LANGUAGES:
In English, we refer to those visual snapshots of statistics by the tasty nickname of “pie chart”. They do the same thing in Czech (koláčový graf), Greek (diágramma pítas), and Spanish (gráfica de pie). But pie charts have some pretty delicious-sounding charts in other languages too…
► Cake: Italian and Turkish charts are named after ‘cake’. Cake is also used as an informal name for the diagrams in German and Spanish.
► Cheese: Although they can be called ‘un graphique’ (a graph) in French, the most common name is ‘un camembert’, which, of course, means “a cheese”.
► Pancake: In China, the charts are called ‘bǐng tú’, or ‘pancake’, in case you’re looking for a savory option.
► Pizza: In Portuguese, they use ‘gráfico de pizza’ instead of pie.
