SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
This very well could be exactly what you need to hear as you tackle your spring-cleaning chores, while still trying to look after all the usual, day-in-day-out duties that come with maintaining a household. The key to productivity and decluttering, according to experts, is to immediately complete the “quick” tasks that only take about 60 seconds to do. According to therapist Mikela Hallmark, the trick is to identify the chores that take less than a minute — like picking up dirty clothes off the floor or wiping down countertops – and do those immediately. Then, you are better able to focus on “bigger tasks,” which could involve a larger cleaning chore, or on doing something you love, such as spending time with loved ones or working on a personal passion. According to Hallmark, the 60-second rule can be a game-changer for (ahem!) “seasoned procrastinators”, or those with mental health struggles or ADHD. She said that’s because doing one small task at a time is less anxiety-inducing than an onslaught of chores to complete all at once.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“American Idol” is taking the nation to church! The singing competition show is planning a special faith-inspired episode that will air on Easter Sunday, April 20. Titled “Songs of Faith,” the episode will not only feature performances from the Top 20 contestants, but the judges will also take to the stage during the 3-hour episode. There will also be special performances from this season’s Artist in Residence, Jelly Roll, as well as gospel singer CeCe Winans, Brandon Lake, Roman Collins and the Brown Four.
Fox-TV is showing major commitment to adult animated series “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers.” It has renewed all 3 series for 4 additional seasons. The network also announced that “American Dad!” will be returning to the network from TBS, and has been approved for 4 more years as well. The pickups bring the series through the 2028-29 broadcast season on Fox, renewing Bob’s Burgers for Seasons 16-19, Family Guy for Seasons 24-27 and The Simpsons for Seasons 37-40. That extends The Simpsons’ reign as the longest-running scripted prime-time series.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know a Brazilian man was killed in bed when a cow fell through the roof and landed on him? In 2013, Joao Maria de Souza was taking a nap in bed when a cow that had been grazing on grass on a hill behind his house walked onto the asbestos roof and fell through, landing on de Souza. The injured man was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Researchers say they’ve detected trace amounts of gold, silver and other precious metals in human waste — and are exploring how to make their extraction commercially feasible.
Harvard researchers say that they’ve discovered that those who eat butter have a 15% higher risk of death, and by replacing 2 teaspoons of butter daily with plant oils (olive, soybean, canola oils…), you could cut your risk of death by 17%. Interestingly, using butter in baking showed no significant death risks, while butter spread directly on foods was linked to higher mortality.

WEIRD NEWS
At a new ice cream shop in New York’s East Village, customers are NOT asked which flavor they’d like. That’s because the only item on the menu is “surprise ice cream.” Customers place their order using a touchpad, and are able to specify their allergies and preferences. The shop, known as “Surprise Scoop”, promises to honor your allergy concerns. No guarantees about your ice cream preferences. You can also request whipped cream or a cherry on top. Shortly thereafter, a scoop of ice cream in an open cardboard takeout container appears at a pickup window. Owner Jackie Luu says he got the idea for Surprise Scoop after going to restaurants and asking servers to “surprise him” with a menu item. Your surprise ice cream will cost you $9.18.

SPRING CLEANING TIPS FROM EXPERTS:
(And by “experts”, we mean Reddit users, who are experts at doing the least amount of work possible…)
⇒ Every time you enter a room, pick up or clean 3 things: This way your home is in a constant state of maintenance. And it eventually becomes habitual — and you won’t even notice you’re doing it.
⇒ Do smaller loads of laundry throughout the week: One Redditor explained that they “do a small load of towels and a small load of clothes during the work week, then the big stuff while I clean on the weekend.”
⇒ Set a timer for 20 minutes every day — and clean as much as you can before the buzzer.
⇒ Break things down into categories, not rooms: Rather than cleaning according to room or floor., try simply cleaning the closets one day, and the appliances the next. Move on to other categories, such as toys, decor, pet supplies. It’s a good way to keep stock of what’s scattered throughout the house, and a way to get rid of the things you don’t use anymore.
