SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

So, just imagine a situation where you’re running low on cash (purely hypothetical, but just go with it…). Who do you turn to for a quick loan? A new survey of 1,267 Americans finds that while borrowing from family can provide a lifeline, it often comes with lasting costs. Nearly half of respondents said lending or borrowing caused serious conflicts, and three-quarters say the relationship grew more distant afterward. When financial help is needed, most turn to parents, siblings, and grandparents, while friends and romantic partners rarely get asked. People said that the average loan is $297, and on average, $237 is still owed to those who have lent cash. Half of lenders said they have lost money or had to request repayment multiple times. Some more findings…

Nearly half of informal loans had no repayment timeline or written agreement.

Women are slightly more likely to forgive debts to preserve relationships.

Almost half considered legal action, but did not pursue it.

The average interest charged is 3.21%, which tends to add stress to delicate situations.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

CBS has announced the lineup of presenters for the 77th Emmy Awards. It includes a slew of 2025 nominees, notably Stephen Colbert whose “Late Show” was recently canceled by CBS. There are also names like Lauren Graham and 2017 Emmy winner Alexis Bledel, who are clearly reuniting to mark the 25th anniversary of “Gilmore Girls”. Then there are Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones of Netflix’s “Wednesday”, coming off the release of its second season. The Emmys, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, will air this Sunday on CBS and on Paramount+.

The first trailer for “Song Sung Blue” has arrived, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in the true-life tale of 2 down-on-their-luck musicians who form a Neil Diamond tribute band that changes their lives. In the clip, romance blooms, backstories are told, leafblowers are deployed as hair-ripplers…and, of course, ‘Sweet Caroline’ and the “BAH-bah-bahhhhhs” happen. In April, Hudson teased the movie on Instagram, writing: “Loved every second making this beautiful film, working with the most lovely work husband you could ask for, @thehughjackman. Song Sung Ble hits theaters on Christmas Day. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/38h7r6ke

“Star Trek” will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year with a flurry of fan-centered celebrations, including special events and partnerships, a Rose Parade float and the premieres of upcoming series like “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”, and “Star Trek: Scouts”, a new animated YouTube series, and the scripted podcast “Star Trek: Khan”. The latter 2 launched this week. Partnerships include a “Boldly Go Green” campaign promoting environmentalism and a first-ever Lego collab. There is also an official anniversary website (StarTrek60.com), and Star Trek: The Cruise will set sail in February, with William Shatner in attendance.

DID YA KNOW!?

It's almost impossible to get too much sugar from fresh fruit. While the sugar in fruit is mostly fructose and glucose (fructose is what's converted into fat in your body), you can't get too much sugar from fresh fruit. Fresh fruit contains a lot of fiber and water which slows down your digestion and makes you feel full.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

According to a survey, the 3 most stressful cities to live in are Detroit, Cleveland, and Baltimore.

When words fail, AI steps in. These days, about a quarter of couples are turning to technology to write wedding vows, saving time, stress, and money. Jen Glantz, founder of Bridesmaid for Hire, recently launched an AI-powered tool that guides couples through personalized vows in minutes. Users answer prompts about their relationship, memorable moments, and hopes for the future, and the system generates polished scripts, with optional Zoom consultations for a human touch. Long Island bride-to-be Veronica Ferreiras praises the system for turning her scattered thoughts into heartfelt vows in under 10 minutes. Even parents have used it to nail speeches at weddings. For busy couples and stressed family members, Glantz’s AI is making the most nerve-wracking part of a wedding a lot easier — and surprisingly fun.

WEIRD NEWS

A forgetful Maryland man doubled his luck after buying two identical Powerball Double Play tickets for the same drawing — and winning both. Each ticket scored $500,000, netting him a cool $1 million. He scored a $500,000 prize from the Double Play drawing, which occurred while he was out of town. Later, while at the laundromat, it occurred to him that he had another ticket bearing the same numbers, and later confirmed it at home. The absent-minded gambler said that it was “good” to look his wife in the eye and tell her they had won $500,000, but “saying I had a million was unbelievable.” He plans to use the winnings to help his family, and joked he’s now eyeing Mega Millions for round 2.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

In a survey, 34% said they don’t usually do THIS until after 3pm. What is it?

Answer: Drink water

THE LIST

A Harvard expert – who is probably also a Taylor Swift fan – assembled these 7 traits of highly successful people that Taylor regularly demonstrates…that anyone can learn from:

1. Imagination: Turning Sparks into Worlds

Swift builds entire songs from tiny details: an overheard line, a fleeting feeling, a single phrase. Curiosity is the real starting point of creativity.

2. Synthesis: Remixing Old into New

She weaves familiar stories into fresh art, like flipping “Romeo & Juliet” into ‘Love Story’. Creativity often comes from reimagining, not inventing.

3. Focus: Protecting What Matters

No makeup lines or random side hustles – she pours everything into music. Saying “no” is how she goes deeper into what counts.

4. Doggedness: Showing Up Anyway

Rain, heartbreak, exhaustion — she performs like it’s still the best night of her life. True grit is pushing through when it’s hard.

5. Passion: Keeping the Fire Lit

Swift stays excited by reconnecting with her “why.” Passion endures when you find fresh joy in familiar work.

6. Reverence: Staying in Awe

She treats music as bigger than herself, a source of wonder. That reverence keeps her purpose (and passion) alive.

7. Commitment: Going All In

Swift chose music over every other path, and never looked back. Greatness comes from betting everything on the thing you love most.
