SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Japanese researchers are advancing a groundbreaking treatment that could allow humans to regrow teeth. Unlike bones, which can heal themselves, teeth cannot regenerate once damaged or lost. Now, scientists at Kitano Hospital in Osaka are testing an experimental drug designed to stimulate natural tooth growth. Human clinical trials are underway, which, if successful, could transform dental care by restoring teeth rather than replacing them artificially. The researchers hope the drug will become available by 2030.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Dancing With the Stars” has its first official podcast. Hosted by Season 33 winner Joey Graziadei, it will premiere on Thursday, a few days after tonight’s Season 34 premiere. In each episode, Graziadei will interview the “Dancing With the Stars” cast and other special guests with behind-the-scenes insights and breakdowns of the performances. Produced by BBC Studios, the podcast will be available with video on Disney+ and Hulu. New episodes will drop on Thursdays.

Netflix has released the full trailer for “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” which stars Chalie Hunnam as the infamous killer. Before there was “Psycho,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” or “The Silence of the Lambs,” there was Ed Gein. After his mother’s death in 1945, Gein largely stayed to himself on his family’s farm. Nearly a decade later, authorities uncovered the horrors that were taking place. Gein exhumed corpses from local gravesites and made keepsakes like lampshades and chair coverings out of their flesh and bones. He also told police he was trying to construct a “woman suit” so that he could become his mother. The new season of the anthology series drops on Oct. 3. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/t8vd5cez

DID YA KNOW!?

It rains methane on Saturn’s largest moon. Titan is the only moon in our Solar System with a dense atmosphere and the only body except Earth with liquid rivers, lakes and seas fed by rainfall. This rainfall isn’t water, though; it's liquid methane.

Lego has unveiled its most-expensive-ever set: the “Ultimate Collection Series Star Wars Death Star”, costing US$1,000 (C$1,299.99). With over 9,000 pieces, the diorama-style model stands more than 2 feet tall and wide, featuring 15 rooms that recreate iconic scenes from “A New Hope” and “Return of the Jedi”. The set includes 38 mini figures, from ‘Luke Skywalker’ and ‘Princess Leia’ to the ‘Hot Tub Stormtrooper’. Lego’s previous record-holder, the Millennium Falcon, had 7,541 pieces and cost US$800. The new Death Star, launching Oct. 4, is also the largest Star Wars model ever. Roughly 15% of Lego’s sets are marketed for adults.

WEIRD NEWS

KFC is known for fried chicken, and also for its weird promotional stunts, like chicken-themed prom corsages, nail polish, a Lifetime movie, and a dating simulator. And their food stunts are just as strange, like that time they offered a breadless sandwich, substituting 2 chicken breasts, wrapped around cheese and bacon. The latest? KFC jelly beans. In a partnership with Frankford Candy, the restaurant will be offering jelly beans in flavors that KFC fans know and love: fried chicken, sweet corn, and gravy. The 4-ounce packs of KFC jelly beans will be available next year – in time for Easter. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4weytuh2
