SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A new study suggests nitrous oxide…yes laughing gas…may provide rapid relief for adults who suffer from depression — especially those who haven’t responded to antidepressants. Conducted by the University of Birmingham and published in eBioMedicine, researchers reviewed 3 trials showing that a single 50% concentration treatment of nitrous oxide reduced depressive symptoms within 24 hours, though effects typically didn’t last beyond a week. Repeated treatments over several weeks, however, showed longer-lasting benefits. Nitrous oxide appears to act on glutamate receptors in the brain, similar to ketamine. Researchers caution more studies are needed and are planning trials to explore long-term effectiveness and safety. As you may know, nitrous oxide acts as a sedative and mild anesthetic to reduce pain and anxiety during procedures.

It’s the question the world wants to know: How is “Stranger Things” going to end? Millie Bobby Brown has the answer. She recently confessed that she engaged in a bit of espionage to spoil the ending for herself during the current run of its 5th and final season. On “Fallon”, she said: “The night before the last table read, we didn’t know what was going to happen. Like, nobody knew.” Then, smirking, she said: “I actually did know. I actually snuck into the writers room, and I saw this really big whiteboard with all of the endings on it. And I was just like, ‘Ah! So much to process!'” She didn’t spill. The Stranger Things finale releases on over 500 screens across North America on Dec. 31.
Kiefer Sutherland has given a big update on the revival of Fox’s hit real-time thriller “24”. The new 24 project was recently confirmed to be in development by showrunner Howard Gordon, following teases by about a new script that could bring back ‘Jack Bauer’. In a recent interview, Sutherland revealed that Gordon has completed an outline for the potential revival. He added: “We’ll see what happens. But I’m very open to it. And hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later!”

OF THE DAY
Flirting may look different across generations, but everyone wants the same basics: interest, respect and a little spark. Huffington Post spoke to people from 4 different generations about their approaches to flirting, and this is what they concluded: Boomers say the key to successful flirting is sincerity. Be yourself, read body language and keep things respectful. Gen Xers focus on wit and genuine curiosity: ask good questions, listen closely and keep things light but classy. Millennials are into friendliness and warmth, often using humor, low-pressure compliments, and clear boundaries. And Gen Z prefers playful, authentic exchanges, like memes, jokes and casual compliments, while staying mindful of context, consent and comfort. The bottom line: across all ages, the advice is simple: be real, be kind, and don’t ignore the signals you’re getting.

WEIRD NEWS
Italian investigators say they’ve cracked what locals are calling a real-life “Mrs. Doubtfire scandal”—a bizarre case in which a 56-year-old unemployed man allegedly disguised himself as his dead mother for years while her mummified corpse lay hidden in their home. Authorities say the man—whose name they have not released—began the macabre charade after his mother, 82-year-old Graziella Dall’Oglio, died three years ago. Instead of reporting her death, he allegedly slipped her body into a sleeping bag and hid it in the laundry room, where it was later found perfectly preserved in a natural state of mummification. While his mother’s remains sat steps away, the son reportedly transformed himself daily with wigs, makeup, and full old-lady attire, even as “visible stubble” peeked through the foundation, according to Corriere della Sera. He perfected her mannerisms, her posture—and apparently even her bureaucracy. Investigators say he successfully renewed his mother’s identity card after her death at a government office outside Mantua. Authorities estimate he raked in roughly €56,000 a year (about $61,000) between her pension and income from three family houses, which he continued to manage while posing as Dall’Oglio.
