SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Lobsters really do feel pain, according to researchers at the University of Gothenburg. The long-standing debate over whether lobsters merely react reflexively or actually experience pain was tested in the study, by exposing Norway lobsters to painful electrical shocks. The crustaceans showed behavioral changes, strengthening the case that their responses go beyond simple reflexes. In light of this revelation, the scientists are calling for an immediate, legally enforced ban on boiling.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Cate Blanchett is set to play Martha Stewart in an upcoming biopic. When asked about her thoughts on receiving the biopic treatment, Stewart revealed the working title is “Good Thing”, a nod to her signature catchphrase, “It’s a good thing.” In the ’90s and early 2000s, Stewart was at the pinnacle of lifestyle media, writing muliple best selling books and hosting her Emmy-winning show “Martha Stewart Living.”
Taylor Frankie Paul has scored a major legal victory that just might result in “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” production resuming – and she wants back on the popular Hulu series. She will NOT be prosecuted for her alleged involvement in a couple of domestic violence incidents in Utah involving her ex, Dakota Mortensen. That’s significant, because it was those accusations — and footage from a prior incident, which torpedoed her 2 shows: “Secret Lives” and “The Bachelorette”.
A musical stage version of “Thelma & Louise”, the 1991 feminist outlaw classic directed by Ridley Scott, will receive its world premiere at London’s Young Vic Theatre in the fall. Amy Lennox, known for her role in “Cabaret”, and Rachel Tucker (“Wicked”) have been cast to play the leads in the show that runs September 3 – October 24. The original movie starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis as friends who take off for a weekend fishing trip that turns into a gun-toting female buddy movie after one of them is sexually assaulted. It has been hailed as a seminal piece of cinematic art about female liberation.

JOKE OF THE DAY

OF THE DAY
Scientists say the best way to convey sarcasm in your text messages is to use a ‘winky face’ emoji. Without it, your jokes are often completely misinterpreted. Researchers found that tone doesn’t translate well over plain text, leaving even obvious sarcasm sounding blunt or sincere. Adding a winky face gives readers a crucial hint that you’re not being serious. Otherwise, your playful jab might land like an insult – or be otherwise misinterpreted.
If we’re being honest, almost everyone would admit they struggle to maintain consistent flossing habits, despite widespread awareness of its importance. But which is more effective — traditional or water flossers? Dental experts say both can play a role in oral hygiene, but they serve different purposes. Traditional floss is considered the most effective method for removing plaque between teeth, while water flossers use pressurized streams to clear debris and may benefit people with braces, implants or sensitive gums. Specialists recommend using both methods when possible, but if choosing one, traditional floss remains the gold standard. Flossing daily, ideally before brushing, helps prevent gum disease, reduces inflammation and limits bacteria linked to cavities and other health issues. A water flosser can be a nice extra, especially for those hard-to-reach spots.

WEIRD NEWS
Fast-food restaurants are always coming up with bizarre new promotional items…but this one takes the “cuke”: KFC’s new “Pickle Puffer” jacket…a transparent puffer-style jacket stuffed with real pickles, green brine…and a built-in straw. The glossy, transparent, brined-green design is inspired by the chain’s cult-favorite fried pickles and pickle-flavored menu items, mimicking the look of a pickle jar in wearable form. The stunt follows a growing trend of fast-food brands releasing streetwear-style merchandise to stay culturally relevant and fuel viral attention online. Released in limited quantities through promotional giveaways, the “Pickle Puffer” is actually positioned less as clothing and more as a collectible. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4k2scbdr
