SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Some languages are just pleasurable to hear. And some are just…not. And which language sounds the friendliest? Portuguese, according to a new international survey. In a study of 3,600 people across the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Japan, 34% of respondents said Portuguese sounded the most welcoming. Spanish followed closely behind, with Italian taking third place – forming what researchers described as a warm, approachable cluster of languages. The survey, conducted by language-learning app Preply, also found that French remains the undisputed language of romance, with 54% of participants naming it the most romantic. Experts say people instinctively react to a language’s rhythm, sound and familiarity, often forming emotional impressions long before they understand a single word. Chinese was rated as most complex, and English most practical.

The Heated Rivalry star joins Jennifer Grey, and the previously announced Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner.

DID YOU KNOW… Some cats can run faster than Usain Bolt—over short distances. Domestic cats can reach speeds of around 30 miles per hour. They excel at quick bursts, not endurance.

OF THE DAY
Well, it turns out, your past is destined to come back to haunt you. Fashion basically runs on a 20-year loop, according to a new study. Researchers at Northwestern University analyzed about 37,000 images of women’s clothing from 1869 to today, tracking features like hemlines and waistlines. Their model (pardon the pun…) shows that styles rise, fade, and return in cycles driven by a balance between standing out and fitting in. Lead author Emma Zajdela found the pattern closely matches the long-held “20-year rule”: the idea that trends, from miniskirts to bell-bottoms, often resurface every 2 decades. She did note, however, that more recently, trends have splintered, with more variety coexisting at once.
If you’re one of the many who have been using ChatGPT or another AI to create passwords, you might want to reconsider. A new study by cybersecurity firm Irregular found that AI-generated passwords, while looking complex, actually follow predictable patterns, such as using repeated characters or common structures. Hackers can exploit these patterns with brute-force attacks, making supposedly “random” AI passwords far less secure than you’d expect.

A Nigerian woman has set one of the strangest – and most difficult – records out there, by counting out loud to 1,070,000. Favour Ogechi Ani spent 70 days, starting in October 2025, counting up to 14 hours a day…while livestreaming the effort. Driven by her desire to break the 18-year-old record of one million, she pushed well beyond it. Despite the monotony, she says support from viewers and her team kept her going. When she finally reached the last number on Dec. 16, the moment was emotional – bringing her both relief and joy, after an extraordinary test of endurance. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4jwrc42y
