SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
When interacting with AI, it’s always a more pleasant experience if that chatbot is friendly…and occasionally even punctuates the conversation with smiley or laughing-face emojis. But efforts to make AI systems warmer and more personable may come with a downside, a new University of Oxford study found. Developers of tools like ChatGPT are encouraging friendly, empathetic responses because users prefer them, and dialing back flattery has triggered backlash in the past. But researchers found that models trained to be nicer were about 30% less accurate and 40% more likely to agree with the user’s false beliefs. They were especially prone to validating users expressing sadness. This raises concerns, as more people turn to AI for emotional support. The study warns that as AI takes on more personal roles, balancing friendliness with truthfulness is becoming increasingly important.

Kris Jenner is giving her famous family home another shot on the market after having some serious second thoughts about whether to sell it at all. She has relisted the iconic Hidden Hills, CA mansion for $13 million, after months of debating whether to keep it in the family. The 6-bedroom, 8,900 square foot mansion that served as the backdrop home featured in “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” originally hit the market in February 2025 for $13.5 million, and quickly drew multiple offers. But reports say Jenner hesitated on selling as she reconsidered the bigger picture. She views the estate as a piece of the Kardashian-Jenner legacy, and seriously weighed holding onto it for future generations.
“The Last of Us” breakout star Bella Ramsey, “Good Omens” actor Michael Sheen, and “Industry” star Myha’la can act, but can they identify traitors before it’s too late? That’s the question British TV viewers will soon be pondering, as they join other famous folks in Season 2 of the BBC’s “The Celebrity Traitors”. It’s a spinoff of the BBC’s “The Traitors”. Other just-announced Season 2 cast members include Oscar-nominated actor Richard E. Grant, singer James Blunt, “Barbie” cast member Sharon Rooney, “Love Island UK” host Maya Jama, and model Jerry Hall, former partner of both Mick Jagger and Rupert Murdoch.

OF THE DAY
The global boom in GLP-1 weight-loss drugs (such as Ozempic) is having an unexpected side effect: Bad breath…and a boost in demand for mints and chewing gum. As more people use these medications, some report dry mouth and unpleasant breath, prompting many to freshen up more often. Confectionery companies say this has led to a noticeable rise in gum and mint sales, even as overall snack consumption shifts. While users may be eating less, they are still reaching for small treats, especially products that serve a functional purpose. The trend highlights how these drugs are reshaping consumer habits. They’re not eliminating indulgences, but changing them, with more emphasis on portion control, freshness, and higher-protein options.

WEIRD NEWS
A mother-daughter team in Virginia has bred watermelons as small as chicken eggs. Beginning their quest in 2021, they used a non-GMO mutation technique to shrink the fruit while keeping its sweetness, texture, and bright flesh intact. Some weigh as little as 80 grams – -but they taste the same as full-sized melons. The goal is to make watermelons easier to grow in greenhouses and vertical farms, while cutting waste and creating perfectly sized, single-serve fruit. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3m8x5vsd
