Procrastination: Are you guilty or nah? After studying it for 4 decades, psychologist Joseph Ferrari says chronic procrastination affects about 20% of people – more than many commonly-discussed mental health issues. He defines procrastination as the habitual and irrational delay of important tasks, often causing problems for both the procrastinator and those around them. Ferrari argues that technology and busy schedules are poor excuses, noting that people have always been busy…and modern tools often make life easier, not harder. He also challenges the claims of some procrastinators that they perform better under deadline pressure, saying research shows they actually tend to do worse, while overestimating their performance. Because procrastination is often driven by emotions such as self-doubt, Ferrari recommends cognitive behavioral therapy rather than time-management tricks. He also believes society should reward early action, instead of punishing lateness.

Oh no, not The Twinkie! The first official trailer for the upcoming 5th and final season of Netflix’s action adventure series “Outer Banks” shows ‘John B.’ watching in horror as ‘Cleo’ blows up his beloved van. The teaser also reveals that the new season will debut August 20. It will not be a prolonged goodbye, as the entire 10-episode Season 5 will be released as a binge drop. The series’ 4th installment was split into 2 batches that premiered 4 weeks apart. Netflix has been pulling away from the split-season model, with “Bridgerton” the only current scripted series that still employs it. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n7ubdp8
Netflix is finally getting into the “Hot Ones” business. The streamer has ordered “Hot Ones: Extra Heat”, a spinoff of Sean Evans’ spicy chicken talk show – nearly 2 years after news of talks emerged. Evans will host the series, which follows the format of the originals but takes it outside of the studio and onto location. Each episode will be 30 minutes long, and will see Evans interview celebrities at settings “inspired by major tentpole moments on Netflix” such as live sporting events and film and series launches.
“Boyhood,” the Oscar-winning coming-of-age drama filmed over 12 years by Richard Linklater, will return to theaters July 31 for its 12th anniversary. Linklater said of the project, which began filming 24 years ago: “The way life chugs along, you look up and it’s been 12 years since the movie came out and it’s kind of crazy.” He said of the undertaking, which he calls “untraditional”: “We’d get together for a few weeks every year and film, so it ended up taking up a big chunk of our lives.” When Boyhood was released in 2014, critics raved about the family drama and it was nominated for 6 Oscars, winning best supporting actress for Patricia Arquette. Since its release, it has consistently ranked as one of the greatest movies ever made.

That voice trying to sell you something just might be more effective if it sounds a little like your own. New research suggests people are more likely to trust and follow advice from voices that resemble theirs – not because of accent or pitch, but because of a voice’s unique texture, known as timbre. Researchers tested the effect across TV-style pitches, crowdfunding campaigns, ads, and product recommendations. They found people viewed similar-sounding voices as more competent and persuasive. The discovery comes as AI voice technology advances, raising the possibility that future companies could customize digital assistants to sound more like each individual customer.
Think hot water is essential for a good espresso? Researchers at University of New South Wales say they’ve managed to use high-frequency sound waves to brew espresso-strength coffee at room temperature, replacing the heat and pressure used in traditional machines. The process, known as “acoustic cavitation”, creates tiny bubbles that rapidly collapse against coffee grounds, releasing flavor compounds, oils, and caffeine. The result is a full-strength espresso in just 2-3 minutes while using about 75% less energy. In blind taste tests involving about 100 coffee drinkers, they generally couldn’t tell the difference. Researchers believe the technology could have its biggest impacts in large-scale coffee production and ready-to-drink beverages.

WEIRD NEWS
Is there anything they CAN’T do? Could weight-loss drugs help prevent crime? A new study suggests medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro may influence more than appetite – they could also affect impulsive behavior and aggression. Researchers found that people taking GLP-1 medications showed a weaker link between traits like impulsiveness, alcohol use, and violent actions. The drugs appear to affect brain systems involved in reward, cravings, stress, and self-control, which may help people avoid emotional reactions that escalate. Scientists caution that the findings don’t prove GLP-1 drugs directly reduce violence, and more research is needed. But as millions use these medications, their effects on the brain are becoming a growing area of study.

GROCERY SHOPPING MISTAKES THAT COULD BE COSTING YOU THOUSANDS PER YEAR:
A few small habits at the grocery store can quietly inflate your bill…
1) Shopping while hungry
Going to the store on an empty stomach can make everything look more tempting. One survey found hungry shoppers spend about $26 more per trip because cravings often lead to extra purchases.
2) Not checking your pantry first
Buying stuff you already have is an easy way to waste money and food. Duplicate purchases, forgotten ingredients, and confusion over expiration dates can add up to nearly $2,000 in household waste per year.
3) Only shopping at one store
Sticking with one grocery store out of habit can mean missing better prices elsewhere. Similar products can vary by more than 33% between stores, so comparing prices can lead to major savings.
4) Buying pre-cut produce
Convenience comes with a price tag. Pre-cut fruits and vegetables often cost more because you’re paying extra for the labor and packaging. A few minutes of chopping at home can save money.
5) Always choosing name brands
A familiar logo doesn’t always mean better quality. Many store-brand products are very similar, but usually cost less – making them an easy place to cut your bill.
6) Skipping bulk purchases
For items your household uses regularly, buying larger sizes can pay off. Bulk shopping can reduce repeat trips and may save up to 27% on certain purchases.
7) Ignoring coupons and store deals
Digital coupons and loyalty offers make saving easier than ever, but many shoppers forget to use them. Missing out on deals could mean leaving more than $1,400 in yearly savings behind.
