SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Have you ever wondered if you ate like your favourite TikTok or Instagram influencer, would you get a body like theirs? New research suggests…well…no. Australian researchers analyzed 300 diet and healthy-eating videos and found almost 70% contained misleading or deceptive information. Most of the questionable advice came from influencers without nutrition or health qualifications. By comparison, videos from actual qualified professionals were much more likely to be accurate. Researchers also found plenty of posts promoting restrictive diets, “clean” eating and unrealistic body ideals. Their concern is that this kind of content can encourage unhealthy attitudes toward food — especially when social media makes looking a certain way seem as simple as following someone else’s diet.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Christian Bale hung up his Batsuit in 2012, but “The Dark Knight” star is still a force for good with his Together California foster care village in Palmdale, California, which opened on Friday. The facility aims to keep siblings entering the foster care system together – a circumstance that is not always guaranteed. The community is 11,000 square feet with 12 furnished homes including 2 studio apartments for those transitioning out of foster care. It will offer programs focused on stability, support and care. He said that raising kids of his own made him wonder about the circumstances for children without parents. Bale has 2 children with his wife Sibi Blazic.

The next season of “Sister Wives” will not feature Kody Brown and his only remaining wife, Robyn Brown. The first trailer for season 21 of the TLC reality show dropped on Monday, and immediately revealed the news that Kody and Robyn have exited the series after 16 years. Neither Kody nor Robyn commented in the trailer on their exit. Kody ended the last season of Sister Wives by going on a self-proclaimed “apology tour” and speaking to all of his exes about his behavior over the past few seasons. Sister Wives’ new season premieres Oct. 4 on TLC. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5c4b38y9

Martha Stewart is apparently sitting on a very different kind of recipe – and she might be ready to serve it up. The lifestyle queen posted a sultry selfie on social media, with a caption guaranteed to stop the scroll: “I’ve been thinking about releasing my nudes.” Stewart didn’t offer any more details, so it’s unclear whether she’s actually got a stash ready to go – or if she was just having a little fun. But one thing’s for sure: the 85-year-old definitely knows how to keep things spicy. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4w3ztnxw

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Good news, gamers: Video games may not be as bad for your brain as your parents told you. Research suggests action games can help people learn new tasks faster, while strategy games may improve how quickly we process information. Not a gamer? Try a crossword puzzle instead. Researchers say searching for the right words can strengthen memory and help your brain form new connections. So yes, your brain may actually enjoy game night.

Keeping a list of your failures and disappointments may sound like a recipe for misery, but happiness expert Arthur Brooks says it can actually help you feel better. Write down a setback, like losing a job opportunity or canceling a vacation, and leave 2 blank lines beneath it. After a month, write what you learned. Three months later, add something positive that came from it. Over time, Brooks says, the list can become a reminder that even your worst moments can teach you something. WEIRD NEWS

Scientists are exploring a controversial way to cool the planet…by essentially dimming the sun. Solar geoengineering involves spraying tiny particles high into the atmosphere to reflect some of the sun’s energy back into space. One company, Stardust Solutions, is developing particles made from substances including silica and calcium carbonate, the main ingredient in eggshells. The idea is inspired by volcanic eruptions, which can temporarily cool Earth. But scientists warn the technology could alter weather patterns, affect rainfall and create unpredictable consequences. And the price is astronomical: Each annual deployment of particles would cost roughly $10 billion.

THE LIST

THE PHYSICAL SIGNS YOU’RE SCROLLING TOO MUCH:

According to experts…

Your neck and shoulders take the load first: Looking down at a phone pulls the head forward and tightens the upper trapezius, a major muscle in the neck.

Your thumb and wrist absorb thousands of repetitive taps: A 2025 study found smartphone unlock frequency and screen time were both linked to clinical signs of a thumb tendon condition called De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Your eyes blink far less than they should: Screen focus can cut blink rate by more than half within the first minute of use, drying out the eye’s protective tear film.

Your sleep gets pushed later than you plan: Evening blue light suppresses the hormone that signals bedtime, and Harvard researchers found it did so twice as long as comparable green light.
