SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A study comparing 3 popular diets found that keto may offer surprising benefits beyond weight loss. Researchers followed 42 adults with obesity, prediabetes and excess liver fat until they lost about 10% of their body weight. All 3 diets worked, but the keto group saw the greatest improvements, including a 67% reduction in liver fat. Half of the keto participants also achieved prediabetes remission, compared with 29% on Mediterranean and 7% on low-fat diets. Researchers caution that larger studies are needed.

Research suggests that milk might beat water when it comes to staying hydrated. Its sodium helps the body retain fluids, while protein and fat can slow how quickly those fluids leave your system. Not a milk fan? Coconut water is another option, thanks to its electrolytes. You can also boost plain water by adding a squeeze of lemon, a splash of fruit juice or honey, plus a small pinch of salt.
In one English seaside town, the local security guard has wings – and gets paid in prawns. Roger, a rescued gull in Salcombe, Devon, has become an unofficial security guard, chasing away rival birds that try to steal customers’ meals. His specialty is protecting the town’s prized fish and chips from other hungry gulls. And Roger doesn’t work for free: his salary is 4 prawns a day, paid to him by a local restaurateur in exchange for “protection” of his clientele. The unusual arrangement has made him something of a local celebrity, with his duties taking place around Salcombe’s busy waterfront. While most gulls are notorious for stealing food, Roger has somehow landed the rare bird job that involves stopping other gulls from doing exactly that. And by turning a potential nuisance into a protector, the shop has drastically cut down on customer refunds for stolen food. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3dedar86

Developed by Dutch university students, Stella Juva carries an X-ray machine, ultrasound and vaccine refrigerator, with rooftop and fold-out solar panels providing its power. During testing in Kenya, it traveled more than 800km and successfully powered all its medical equipment.
