SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
If you’ve ever reached for your phone because you felt it buzz — but found that it didn’t, you’re not imagining things… well, technically, you are. Phantom vibrations are surprisingly common, with studies finding that up to 89% of people experience them. Researchers think your brain gets so used to expecting calls and texts that it can mistake a muscle twitch or your clothes brushing your skin for a notification. Heavy phone use and a grueling workload have all been linked to more phantom buzzes, And here’s the weird part: turning off vibrate mode may help make those phantom buzzes disappear.

A collection of memorabilia spanning the career of Paul Reubens is headed to auction via Julien’s on Oct. 28. “Paul Reubens’ Big Auction” will feature an array of iconic items from his ‘Pee-wee Herman’ days, including the quintessential gray suit and custom red Schwinn bicycles used while playing the beloved character. Highlights include the slate gray glen plaid suit Reubens wore in 2016’s “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday”, which comes with the white shirt, red bowtie, pocket square, and white loafers that complete the outfit. It’s expected to go for $8,000-$10,000. LINK: https://www.juliensauctions.com/en
‘Tis the season! Horror fans can get up close and personal with their favorite nightmares at a new exhibition in Los Angeles. “The Horror Show,” at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, features 396 objects from 167 horror films spanning nearly a century. Six galleries explore everything from vampires and ghosts to science, religion, psychological terror and slashers. Visitors can see Dracula’s cape, Jack Torrance’s ax from “The Shining”, the chair from “Get Out” and masks worn by killers like ‘Freddy Krueger’ and ‘Ghostface’. The exhibition runs through July 2027. Parental guidance is advised for some frightening material. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3387ye6j

OF THE DAY
Want to save money on groceries? “The Budgetnista” (renowned financial educator and influencer Tiffany Aliche) has a surprisingly simple trick: build your shopping list in a delivery app…even if you’re actually going to the store. She says browsing the aisles can lead to impulse buys, while an app lets you check your cupboards, add exactly what you need, and see the total before you shop. A few other tips: plan meals around sales, buy frozen fruits and vegetables when they’re cheaper, and skip pre-cut or pre-packaged foods, because convenience comes with a markup. Adding a few meat-free meals to your week can cut the grocery bill even further.
About a third of UK workers who use generative AI at work…are doing it without telling their employer. A Deloitte survey of 25,000 workers found 63% regularly use AI, with 1 in 6 paying for the tools themselves. British workers are estimated to spend about £1 billion a year out of pocket in order to use an unapproved chatbot. And they’re mostly using AI for pretty ordinary stuff: 43% for searches, 43% for drafting emails and 31% for summarizing information.

✓ The Grammy Awards were introduced to counter the threat of rock music. In the late 1950s, a group of record executives were alarmed by the explosive success of rock ‘n roll, considering it a threat to "quality" music.

THE LIST
LIFE CHEAT CODES:
A Reddit user recently asked people to share “cheat codes” that completely changed their lives. Here are some of the best…I hope…
⇒ “I was told the most important things to buy are the things you walk and rest on. Don’t go cheap on beds or footwear. Your back and knees will thank you later.”
⇒ “Save money. One of the best pieces of advice my dad ever gave me was, ‘Your plans and goals throughout life are going to change, but money gives you options.'”
⇒ “Be really nice to customer service reps. Sounds basic, but it’s wild how often you get upgraded, refunded, or helped way faster just by being cool to the person who deals with everyone’s anger all day.”
⇒ “Every episode that ends with a cliffhanger makes you start the next episode to see what happens. If you stop mid-episode, it’s a lot easier to break from the bingeing.”
⇒ “Learn to ask for help. Normally, we want to handle every situation, issue, task, and job ourselves, but that is not always possible…Analyze the situation, and if you think it may be beyond you, ask for help.”
⇒ “If it takes less than 5 minutes to do a task, just do it now.”
⇒ “Going to the gym. It fixes a lot of those aches and pains that previously never seemed to go away.”
⇒ “Crumple your raffle tickets and slightly uncrumple them before dropping them in. I win a lot of raffles.”
⇒ “Learn to say no without explaining your reason for saying no.”
⇒ “Put your feet physically on the ground to turn off your alarm. It takes away a lot of the excuses and temptation to hit snooze.”
⇒ “Don’t listen to criticism from someone you would not ask for advice.”
