When people say you should “touch grass”, they may be onto something. Research suggests that touching soil, plants, and grass while gardening or spending time outdoors can increase the variety of beneficial microorganisms living on your skin within just a few weeks. A more diverse mix of microbes can help keep harmful bacteria in check while supporting healthy skin and the immune system. Researchers say frequent or longer periods of contact with nature may provide the biggest benefits. So go ahead and touch some grass – you can officially call it science-backed dirt therapy.

Ralph Macchio is sharing which of his iconic films he’d like to see turned into a Broadway show. The “Karate Kid” star made a recent appearance at GalaxyCon Raleigh. In a question-and-answer session, he touched on how his 1983 film “The Outsiders”, was turned into a Broadway musical. Asked if he has a favorite movie that he’d love to see “get the Broadway treatment,” Macchio said: “My Cousin Vinny the Musical. I mean, how funny would that be?”
Joe Manganiello has opened up about his secret health battle. For 7 of the last 10 years, the actor was secretly fighting a mysterious autoimmune illness so virulent it nearly killed him. In his new memoir, Manganiello writes about recovering from a health battle that led to “major organ amputation” and contributed to the end of his 7-year marriage to actress SofĂa Vergara. The “True Blood” star said: “I can’t believe I’m alive. I feel like I was reborn.” Now, he says he’s symptom-free and engaged to Caitlin O’Connor. OF THE DAY
Hold that sigh…unless you’re alone! New research suggests we have unwritten social rules for everyday sounds – and breaking them could make things awkward. A week-long study of 142 adults found that laughter is the most acceptable sound that people make out loud (no surprise there), while screams and (wait for it…) retching ranked lowest. Sighs? They’re actually considered more appropriate when you’re alone than when friends, coworkers or strangers are around. Sounds were generally found to be more acceptable when emitted at home, with close friends, and in upbeat social situations, but were rated lower in formal settings or when around people with more authority. And surprisingly, the sound itself matters more than the setting.
At the first sign of a sniffle, you might want to reach for a saline nasal spray. As temperatures drop, colds become more common, and research suggests using saline spray could shorten a cold by about 20%. The recommendation is to use it 3-6 times a day when symptoms first appear. The salt may activate your nose’s natural antiviral defenses, helping slow the virus from multiplying, while also boosting infection-fighting white blood cells in the nasal passages. In other words, a little saltwater could help send your cold packing sooner.

WEIRD NEWS
A Wisconsin woman is facing charges for allegedly going back to her old high school — not for a reunion, but to impersonate a teacher and unleash on the students. Police say 23-year-old Amy Jones posed as a substitute teacher and spent nearly 3 class periods berating and cursing at kids, and making inappropriate comments. She allegedly called one student “fat boy,” asked another if she wanted to be “a stripper or hooker”, and even asked students for weed or a vape because class was “so lame.” She later told police she went to school because she was bored and “hates kids.” She faces 6 felony charges.

THE LIST
THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE:
While
most fabrics can handle a wash cycle, not everything belongs in the
machine. Here are some prime examples, according to “laundry
experts”…
Very
Delicate Fabrics (of course): Keep suede, leather, silk, velvet,
wool, taffeta, rubber, vinyl, and heavily beaded or sequined items
out of the washer. When in doubt, check the label before tossing it
in.
Fabrics
With Flammable Chemicals: Never wash rags or clothing contaminated
with things like motor oil or paint thinner. Heat from washing or
drying can potentially ignite those chemicals and cause a fire.
Batik
Fabrics: Batik fabrics can bleed their colors, especially if they
haven’t been properly treated. Hand-wash or spot-clean them with
mild detergent and cool or warm water.
Memory
Foam Pillows: The agitation and heat of a washing machine can distort
or even break down memory foam. Spot-clean them instead, then let
them air-dry completely on a flat surface.
Rugs:
Unless a rug is specifically labeled machine-washable, it’s best to
keep it out of the washer. Wool, silk, jute and shag rugs are
especially likely to be damaged.
Too
Many Items: Don’t cram an entire mountain of laundry into one load.
Overloading can throw the machine off balance and put extra stress on
the washer.
Too Much Detergent: More detergent doesn’t mean cleaner clothes. Using too much can create excessive suds, lengthen the wash cycle and potentially damage both your clothes and your machine.
