If you’re stressed, get yourself into a green area. A study of 106 college students found that sitting in a restored forest for 10 minutes while listening to recorded birdsong produced the lowest stress levels, fewest negative feelings, and most positive emotions of 4 settings tested. By comparison, sitting in a grey, built-up area while listening to traffic noise scored worst across the board. Researchers found that both the natural setting and birdsong provided their own benefits, with the combination working best. The forest itself had the biggest impact on how mentally restored participants felt.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri Noelle is joining the family business. She just booked a part in a modern Shakespeare adaptation in Scotland. Suri – who stopped using her “Cruise” surname in 2024 – and a group of other students at Carnegie Mellon University are headed across the pond to perform “Midsummer!”, a modern-verse translation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Five years after heading up “NYC Still Rising After 20 Years: A Comedy Celebration” to benefit 9/11 charities, Jon Stewart and Pete Davidson are re-teaming to lead “NYC Still Rising After 25 Years: A 9/11 Charities Comedy Benefit”, to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In addition to Stewart and Davidson, the benefit will feature A-list comedians Aziz Ansari, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Ronny Chieng, Nikki Glaser, Josh Johnson and more yet-to-be-announced performers. The event is set for September 10 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The King of Pop is headed to streaming. “Michael,” the musical biopic that follows Michael Jackson’s career, will begin streaming on Starz on Aug. 10. Released on April 24, Michael grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, making it one of the biggest hits of 2026. Critic Owen Gleiberman praised Jaafar Jackson’s performance in the film, saying Micheal’s nephew “nails the look, the voice, the…moves, and…the mixture of delicacy and steel that made Michael who he was.” Gleiberman added that a “Michael” sequel from Lionsgate is expected to be confirmed.

A new study found that men are nearly twice as likely as women to admit having flirty conversations with chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini (15% versus 8%). Younger adults are most likely to spark up an AI romance, with 27% of Gen Z reporting romantic chats. And while 11% of people have flirted with AI, nearly 1 in 4 say doing so actually counts as cheating.

A report claims that millennials are having significantly less sex than previous generations.

Now, some words that I thought I’d never hear myself say: “Minivans are making a comeback.” After years of being dismissed as the ultimate “soccer mom” vehicle, minivan sales jumped 21% in 2025 (in the US), with the Toyota Sienna model among the fastest-selling cars on the market. And a large proportion of minivans were purchased by millennial parents who once swore they’d never drive one. The appeal is simple: sliding doors, roomy third rows, tons of storage and family-friendly features — all at a lower price than many 3-row SUVs. Yup, for parents who were raised in minivans, but once prized their rugged-looking SUVs, practicality seems to be winning out. A Long Island village is heading into an unusual mayoral election — with no official candidates on the ballot. After Bayville Mayor Steve Minicozzi announced he would not seek re-election, no one registered to run for the position. Former officials say the job is difficult to fill because it requires significant time and pays only about $5,000 a year.

Halloween is no longer just a day – it’s a whole candy season, according to Mars. The chocolate company’s 2026 “Tricks, Treats and Trends Report” found that 57% of U.S. adults see Halloween as a season, while 66% would happily buy their favorite Halloween candy year-round. Mars is responding with more than 120 seasonal treats, including new Skittles POP’d Creepy Crunch, Twix Skulls and Snickers Pumpkins Fun Size. Returning favorites include Ghoulish Green Snickers and Twix, pumpkin pie-flavored M&M’s and Halloween-themed varieties. Tom Holland is having the kind of summer most actors dream about. He may also be his own toughest competition at the box office. Holland stars in “The Odyssey”, Christopher Nolan’s epic that has sat atop the box office since it opened July 17. And on Friday, he returns as ‘Peter Parker’ in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, which is tracking to be one of the biggest openings in history, and is expected to bump The Odyssey from the #1 spot. His wife and frequent costar, Zendaya, appears in both films as well.

Tom Holland was ready to guest-host “Saturday Night Live” amid his press tour for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, but the timing didn’t work out. He recently revealed that he is “petrified” of hosting the NBC sketch show because of his dyslexia and the need to read cue cards during the live show. Holland said to Seth Meyers that at the beginning of his press tour, he told the Sony marketing team that he was “ready to host SNL”, but “they were like ‘They’re dark during the summer.’ So, thank God!”

‘Black Panther’ is back! David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther and is playing ‘T’Challa’s’ son in “Black Panther 3.” Scheduled for release in December 2028, the film will follow Jonsson’s character, ‘Prince T’Challa II’, as he comes of age after being introduced as a child in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Director Ryan Coogler will return for the third film, as well as Leticia Wright reprising her role as ‘Shuri’, and Winston Duke as ‘M’Baku’.

Who says toys are outdated? Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” which grapples with the reality that kids would rather play with tech than dolls, has surpassed $1 billion globally and now ranks as the highest-grossing release of the year. It’s the third movie of the year to join the billions club, following “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” “Michael”, which have both taken in $1.001 billion. This year is tracking to produce the most billion-dollar blockbusters since the pandemic upended the box office in 2020.

A study of more than 1,600 samples from Germany and Switzerland found that uncut grass held up to 73% more tiny creatures than recently mown areas. Mowing can kill thousands of insects, and destroy their shelter and habitat. Letting one patch grow wild could do your lawn — and its tiny residents — a world of good. “The Odyssey’s” box office journey is not slowing down. After launching with $123.5 million domestically $263.7 million total last weekend, the Christopher Nolan epic brought in a projected $84.5 million at the domestic box office in its second weekend. That would be a decline of just 32%, an extremely good hold for a blockbuster. No new wide release braved the waters this weekend. But this weekend, the juggernaut “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will arrive, starring The Odyssey cast members and married couple Tom Holland and Zendaya.

Pete Davidson is stepping into the role of real-life mafia killer Tommy Pitera in the upcoming film “Tommy Karate”. Davidson co-wrote the screenplay and calls the project a dream job he’s worked on for over 3 years. Tommy Karate is based on Philip Carlo’s 2009 book “The Butcher: Anatomy of a Mafia Psychopath”, which chronicles Pitera’s early life and entrance into the Italian Mafia crime family in New York City. Pitera, who hails from Brooklyn, is suspected of as many as 60 murders, and earned his nickname for his martial arts skills. The film is currently in preproduction.

Johnny Depp is attempting a comeback tour, as evidenced by his surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. The once-beloved Oscar nominee, whose career took a dip after ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of abuse and the 2 faced off in a highly publicized defamation trial, showed up as ‘Ebenezer Scrooge’, who he’s playing in an upcoming “Christmas Carol” movie. Depp’s Scrooge donned a top hat, fingerless gloves, gray curls, and long coat, and asked the crowd, “Have you no jobs?”

Jimothy, the viral raccoon from Seattle, whose distinctive appearance is linked to a spinal condition that gives him a round, compact appearance, has become an online sensation and inspired memes, video-game mods and fan creations. And now, Blizzard has confirmed the little critter is coming to “Azeroth”, following a flood of fan requests. The World of Warcraft X account teased the news with the message: “You asked, Jimothy answered,” along with a video showing him running through the game. Blizzard hasn’t revealed exactly how Jimothy will appear or when he’ll arrive, but fans are hoping for a battle pet. One thing is certain: Azeroth is about to get a lot raccoon-ier. Jimothy, the viral raccoon from Seattle, has officially received one of Washington state’s highest honors — and honestly, who deserves it more? It would seem that a lot of us aren’t just working – we’re working hard at looking like we’re working. A new survey of 1,000 full-time employees (in the US) found that 66% admit to faking productivity, with Gen Z leading the charge at 80%. The average worker spends 5 hours a week just trying to maintain the appearance of being busy. That’s equivalent to nearly 7 workweeks a year. Popular tricks include occasionally moving their computer mouse, keeping a “decoy document” or browser tab open, and deliberately responding slowly to messages. But researchers say burnout and micromanagement are major reasons why workers are faking busy-ness, and monitoring software often makes employees more stressed, rather than more productive. In other words, the real office grind may be PRETENDING to grind. By the way, in the survey, 73% of managers also admitted to faking productivity at work.

The concert film “George Michael: The Faith Tour” has been acquired by Universal. Shot in Paris during the “Faith Tour” in 1988, the film features never-before-seen footage of Michael. George Michael: The Faith Tour transforms archival footage assembled from a 14-camera shoot captured on 35mm film over 2 nights. It opens with an original short, “Finding Faith,” which features voice-over from Michael, and behind-the-scenes footage of the ‘Faith’ music video. The film is slated for a late 2026 worldwide release in theaters in premium formats, including IMAX.

Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During Marvel’s much-anticipated panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, Gosling was revealed as the next actor to play ‘Ghost Rider’, the iconic character previously portrayed onscreen by Nicolas Cage. Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige confirmed Gosling will embody the role in an upcoming standalone movie. That will be Gosling’s first superhero or comic book movie. No release date has been set for Marvel’s new Ghost Rider movie.

Rick Moranis has returned to Hollywood. The “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” star received a thunderous standing ovation – and chants of “Rick! Rick! Rick!” on Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for “Spaceballs: The New One,” the long-awaited sequel that marks his first film role in over 20 years. During the panel, he joked: “I really wasn’t retired. I was just negotiating”, after explaining that he had been talking to Mel Brooks about doing a “Spaceballs” sequel as far back as 1989. Moranis said he “kept having to pinch” himself on the set of the sequel, noting it felt “very strange” to put his helmet back on, but “I really started to love it, and who knows, maybe it’s the beginning of many!”

It’s about to get a lot more difficult to call in sick – in Germany. As part of a major effort to strengthen the country’s economy, the government will require workers to provide a doctor’s note from the very first day they’re off sick. It will also end the practice of doctors issuing sick notes after a phone consultation, meaning most workers will need to be examined in person before taking sick leave. The government says the tougher rules are needed to reduce lengthy absences from work.

THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I'm not sure how to feel about this. I hope it is just a misunderstanding, but my mother-in-law recently said something that was a bit hurtful. She didn't say it to me. She said it to my husband. He told me, now I need to decide how to respond, or if I should say anything at all. First of all, she's almost 80. She refuses to wear a hearing aid. When we have a family gathering, she never hears what anyone is saying, so I tend to spend less time talking to her lately. Apparently, at Christmas time, she was talking to me about something and I walked away. I can tell you 100% truth, I don't think this happened. If it did, I was oblivious to the fact that she was talking to me. She said that she thinks I'm too good for her, or something like that. It has nothing to do what that. I just can't communicate with her without shouting, then I feel like I'm being mean. It's so awkward that I find myself tending to sit far away. Not because I don't like her, I absolutely love her, but because she can't hear me and it's aggravating to me. My mother had the same issue, but she wears hearing aids and she can hear better than my husband now, but that's a whole different letter. I want to talk to my mother-in-law about this, but my husband said it would make her feel bad to know that I shared this with her, but here's the thing. We don't keep secrets. We made that decision over 30 years ago. If you need to keep secrets from your spouse, you probably shouldn't be married. He just asked me to try to be more aware when we get together next time. It makes me feel really bad that she thought I was too good for her. I love vising with her and I miss our conversations, but she refuses to do anything to hear better. What should I do? Do I mention something to her? Do I avoid the topic? Do I avoid her?

Just in case you wondered if it is a thing, cosmetic procedures CAN become addictive. A new study of 1,600 women found that of those who have had undergone cosmetic treatments, 20% showed signs of moderate-to-severe risk for addictive cosmetic procedure use. Researchers found the highest risk in women with both low body esteem and problematic social media use, suggesting that constant exposure to idealized images may fuel a cycle of repeat cosmetic treatments. Across all women surveyed, including those who had never had a procedure, nearly 1 in 11 showed signs of moderate-to-severe risk. And age made no difference. Women in their late 20s were as likely to show warning signs as women in their late 60s.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

William Shatner has revealed that he and his daughter, Melanie Shatner Gretsch, both faced different types of stage 4 cancer a few years ago. The 95-year-old said in an interview that Gretsch, who is 61, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. While she was receiving treatment, in June 2023, Shatner was diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant melanoma that had spread to his lungs and brain. Both say they are now cancer-free, with Shatner adding they found “the perfect doctors” for their illnesses. He recently announced he has started a heavy metal band(!), which will appear at Chicago’s Riot Fest in September.

Filmmaker Jonathan Levine is in talks to direct the Tom Cruise “Days of Thunder” sequel. It’s first major sign that the highly anticipated project is moving forward after producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke about a follow-up to the 1990 NASCAR movie during the “F1” press tour. Cruise will produce with Bruckheimer. The last time Paramount ignited a classic Cruise property, in “Top Gun: Maverick”, it became the actor’s and the studio’s highest grossing movie ever, at $1.5 billion worldwide.

It turns out NOT having a detailed career plan might actually be good for you. A 6-month study of nearly 1,000 workers found that people who were comfortable with uncertainty, trusted their intuition, and were willing to make decisions without having all the answers were more likely to find meaning in their work. That sense of purpose was then linked to greater job satisfaction and stronger engagement. Researchers say “career wisdom” doesn’t mean making reckless choices – it means being flexible, accepting that plans can change and knowing when to stop searching for the perfect answer.

People-pleasing may seem like a positive trait to others, but constantly seeking others’ approval could actually drain your motivation. Psychologist Mark Travers says lasting motivation depends on 3 things: feeling competent, connected to others and, most importantly, having a sense of autonomy. When you become overly concerned with what others think, you may start second-guessing your own decisions and waiting for permission before acting. What begins as consideration for others can eventually become a habit of needing validation before doing anything – making it harder to pursue your own goals and stay motivated.

A survey of 2,000 adults (in the US) found that 17% had ended a relationship specifically because of a partner’s disruptive nighttime habits, while another 6% said sleep issues were one factor in the breakup. Snoring was the biggest culprit, appearing in 62% of responses and ranking as the most annoying sleep habit overall. Other major irritations include tossing and turning, stealing the covers and watching TV in bed. But on the other hand, 64% of respondents said they’re willing to put up with a partner’s disruptive sleep habits. Here are the things that people find most annoying about sharing a bed…

Apple will soon let you LEASE your way to the latest iPhone. The company is preparing to launch “Apple Upgrade”, a new subscription program backed by ‘buy-now, pay-later’ giant Klarna. Rolling out in the US next week, the service will let customers lease iPhones, Macs, iPads and Apple Watches. Just like a car lease, users will be able to pay off their device early, upgrade to a new one, keep it at the end of the term…or return it.
