SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
What is the oddest collection you’ve ever heard of someone having? A new survey asked Americans about their most unique, impressive, and bizarre collections – and they didn’t disappoint. One respondent reported a collection of over 300 coasters from breweries they’ve visited, and another has collected more than 200 oil-burning lamps. Other interesting collections include gnomes (of course), uranium glass, clowns, vintage handkerchiefs and porcelain pigs. Another person claimed to have nearly 100,000 sports cards, and another…well, they have about that many…fingernail clippings. And Elvis memorabilia was, of course, well represented, too. The Talker Research poll also asked about the, ahem, non-functional “stuff” that has collected around people’s homes over the years, and respondents estimated it would take 14 hours to sort and get rid of all their unwanted items and “junk” — and 17% said it would take them an entire 40-hour work week.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Jack Quaid appeared at the LA Clippers game on Sunday to promote his new film “Novocaine”, sporting a slew of fake injuries that got worse as the game went on. In the movie, Quaid stars as a bank executive who can not feel pain due to a genetic condition. When his co-worker and love interest, is kidnapped, he must use his “super power” to rescue her. During Quaid’s NBA courtside appearance, the actor became progressively more injured each time the camera panned to him. In a video posted to X, he first appeared with a black eye, a bloody nose and his arm in a sling. Later, he appears with co-star Amber Midthunder, talking about how excited they are to be at the game. This time, he’s wearing a neck brace, a new arm cast and has fresh bruises on his face. At the end, a caption reads, “Someone get Novocaine to a hospital,” as Quaid appears again, now with a head bandage and a second arm cast. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdfhe7fy
Novocaine”, starring Jack Quaid, got off to a good start at the domestic box office with an estimated $8.5 million opening weekend, in an exceptionally slow time for theaters. That was expected to be enough to beat the second weekend of “Mickey 17,” which is estimated to have dropped from its $19 million opening to $7.6 million. That adds up to the lowest weekend total in 2025 at a time when business usually picks up. The totals for the last 2 weekends are the lowest since 1997, not counting the pandemic years. Some help is on the way this weekend with the release of Disney’s “Snow White,” which is expected to take in about $50 million.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know the Statue of Liberty wears a size 879 shoe? It’s no wonder that Lady Liberty in New York Harbor is a massive monument. The copper statue alone is 151 feet and one inch tall. However, if she needed a new pair of sandals it would take size 879 shoes to cover her ginormous feet.

Was it payday for you on Friday? If so, chances are, your money’s pretty much gone by now, according to the results of a recent survey. In fact, the average person has already “mentally spent” more than half of their paycheck before it even lands in their account. The survey of 2,000 employed Americans who make less than $75,000 per year found that overdue bills (38%) are a leading cause for “mentally spending” pay before it is received. Over half said they have 1-4 of those to deal with in any given month. Large bills, like rent or a mortgage (56%) are the most likely things to be looked after being paid, followed by necessities, such as food and medications (51%) and smaller bills like electric or water (38%). Results showed that the average person puts 64% of their pay towards “needs”, and 16% to “wants”, such as something fun — and 16% goes toward savings.

WEIRD NEWS
Police are asking for help from the public after religious paintings, including one that read “Thou shalt not steal” were stolen from a church in the U.K. The 3 paintings were taken from St. Andrew’s Church in Little Steeping. The exact value of these paintings, all housed in heavy wooden frames, is unknown, but they hold “sentimental value” to the church, police said. Notably, one of the stolen paintings illustrates the 10 commandments, which includes the command “Thou shalt not steal.”

THE LIST
WEIRDEST FOODS EVER MARKETED:
► Ham & Bananas Hollandaise: Yup. Bananas coated in lemon juice, wrapped with mustard-slathered boiled ham slices, and baked – and topped off with hollandaise sauce. It was a 1970s thing.
► Apples Stuffed with Prawns: How about combining apples, lemons, mayo, olives, Tabasco sauce, pickles, tomato paste, AND SHRIMP, and stuffing it all into hollowed apples. And just to add to the hurt, let’s top it with whole prawns and stuffed olives.
► Bologna Cake: Not really a cake, but it looks like one. It layers bologna with a mix of cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and onion. The outside is “frosted” with a cheese mixture, and decorated with spray cheese.
► Liver Sausage Pineapple: This shows up in a 1952 cookbook. Despite the name, it does NOT feature pineapple. Rather, it is liver sausage (bad enough!) shaped and decorated to LOOK like a pineapple, using gelatin and mayo, olives and pimento.
► Tuna and Pear Pizza: A suggestion from the Fruit Producers Council in 1972, it’s a pizza made from a sauce containing a combination of tuna and pears. It is topped with pickled walnuts and – you guessed it – anchovies!
► Anything in Gelatin: Yeah, in the 1960s and 70s, people were somehow convinced they could make simple, delicious foods better by molding them in gelatin. Example? The Jellied Tomato Refresher, a combo of juice, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, green pepper flakes, lemon juice, garlic and cloves. In gelatin. And that thing was a dessert!
