SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

According to a new study, pain hurts more when you aren’t expecting it. Danish researchers ran a series of tests exposing participants to cold and warm sensations, sometimes both at the same time. The participants were asked to predict whether they would feel cold or warm, and researchers say the experiment ultimately proved that the uncertainty behind what they expected to feel amplified the pain they experienced. The lead researcher concluded: “Even when nothing harmful is happening, not knowing what to expect somehow makes us feel a fairly high level of pain.” It is hoped this finding could help treat patients who are anxious about experiencing pain.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Interest in the second season of HBO‘s “The Last of Us” is clearly high. The trailer, released Saturday as part of the show’s SXSW panel, amassed 158 million global views in just the first 3 days, which is a record for HBO and Max originals. The new trailer outperformed previous trailers and teasers for The Last of Us by a margin of at least 160%, Warner Bros. Discovery said. Season 2 takes place 5 years after the events of the first season. It debuts April 13 on HBO and Max.

“Stranger Things” breakout Sadie Sink has joined the cast of “Spider-Man 4”. As with all things Marvel, details about Sink’s role are being kept quiet, but The Wrap says it has confirmed she’ll play ‘Jean Grey’ from the X-Men. The Tom Holland-led film will be directed by “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton. Production will begin late this year, after Holland finishes work on Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”

Amazon MGM is developing a biopic about golf legend Tiger Woods, with “King Richard” director Reinaldo Marcus Green in talks to get involved. The film will be adapted from “The Tiger Slam,” a book released in November by former Golf Magazine editor-in-chief Kevin Cook. The book takes its name from Woods’ most famous achievement: winning 4 consecutive major tournaments starting with the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach — and continuing with the Open Championship and PGA Championship later that year before winning the Masters in the spring of 2001.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know scientists once gave mice superhero-like night vision using nanoparticles? While testing in a lab, a few lucky mice were granted the ability to see perfectly in the dark when scientists utilized nanoparticles that convert infrared light to visible light.

38% stream their favorite TV shows or movies while at their job site.

52% who work from home said they do not want to return to the office because they’ll miss streaming during the work day.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

If you have a favorite quote.... you can send it to us at the bottom of the page at JohnAndHeidiShow.com

“I saw a study that said speaking in front of a crowd is considered the number one fear of the average person. Number two was death. This means to the average person, if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.” — Jerry Seinfeld

FUN FACT FOR YOU:
Share this with your friends... they'll think you're really smart!

✓ During a conversation, each speaker’s “turn” universally averages 2 seconds, and the pause in between is just 200 milliseconds.

✓ People fluent in multiple languages almost always swear in their native tongue.

✓ Cold showers have more health benefits than hot or warm showers. These include improved circulation, stimulating weight loss, and easing depression.

✓ Male fruit flies look for alcohol to consume after being rejected for sex.

Studies have shown that psychologically, losses are twice as powerful as gains. So winning $100 feels as good to us as losing $50 feels bad.

WEIRD NEWS

In what can only be reacted to by saying “Is this 2001, or am I crazy?”, Napster has been sold for more than $200 million. The notorious illegal file sharing site, established in 1999, and sued into oblivion 2 years later, has been sold a number of times in the ensuing years. Now the tech company Infinite Reality, which calls itself the “future of immersion”, has dropped a whopping $207 million for Napster, teasing the acquisition as the first step in creating a “social-first music platform where fans can more directly engage with music and artists”. IR plans initiatives linked to “physical and digital merch sales, AI-powered customer service, and metaverse-like virtual spaces for fans to congregate for concerts or listening parties.”
