SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Breakups are rough – on the wallet, as it turns out. According to data from the finance app Frich, Gen Zer’s are spending an average of $3,862 to bounce back after a split. That includes everything from solo rent to travel, rebound dates, and a bit of post-heartbreak retail therapy. When it comes to moving on, 34% of Gen Z thought they’d drop about $131 on a date just to get back out there. Meanwhile, a single girls’ night out? 20% said they’d spend about $92. And for those going full YOLO, 1 in 5 booked a getaway, dropping nearly $2,000 to ‘reset’ somewhere far away. Among those who said they’d opt for more budget-friendly self-care, like a workout class or a fresh haircut – that’ll run about $100 — but only 18% took that route. And then there’s rent. Going from splitting the bills to flying solo can hit hard. 39% of Gen Z said they’d move in with a partner before they were ready, just to save on rent. As Frich’s co-founder Aleksandra Medina put it, “Breaking up isn’t just emotional — it’s a full-on financial reset.”

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Sydney Sweeney has been spotted with her ex-fiancĂ©, Jonathan Davino, and judging by the low-key vibes, it looks like they were trying not to be seen. The 2 were spotted at an LA restaurant on Sunday. Sweeney was wearing a blue hoodie pulled up, and shades, clearly in incognito mode as she walked side by side with Davino. Their body language definitely didn’t say “rekindled romance”, according to onlookers. He did manage to crack a few smiles, and TMZ reported that it appears there is no bad blood between the exes. They split in January.

Monopoly is passing “Go” at Netflix. Multiple reports say the streamer has landed the reality competition series adaptation of the classic board game after a bidding process. The board game-inspired reality show was announced in March, and is described as a “large-scale social-experiment contest that will force contestants to form alliances and betray their competitors.” It’s the latest move for Netflix in the unscripted space, after already having success with “Squid Game: The Challenge”. It is also working on “The Golden Ticket”, a competition series set in the world of ‘Willy Wonka’ as well as a raft of other projects that have IP tie-ins.

Viewership for “Adolescence” just keeps growing, with the UK crime drama now outpacing “Bridgerton,” “The Night Agent,” and “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix’s most-watched TV list of all time. In racking up 114 million views in under a month, Adolescence has become Netflix’s #4 most-watched show ever, jumping up from #9, where it sat last week. Now, the only TV seasons that outpace Adolescence are “Wednesday” Season 1, “Stranger Things” Season 4 and “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know King Tut owned a dagger from outer space? King Tutankhamun had lots of cool things that were buried with him when he died, but one of his most intriguing may have been a dagger made of meteoric metal when archaeologists found it in his tomb in 1925. Recently scientists were able to confirm the dagger was made of iron, nickel, and cobalt and strongly suggests an origin that is out of this world!

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The 38th Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards ceremony will be held on May 10, with Mario and Luigi serving as hosts.

A Mexican resort city named as the host for Fyre Festival 2 has denied all knowledge of the event. Billy McFarland – the man behind the disastrous first Fyre Festival in 2017, who later served 4 years behind bars for defrauding investors of $27 million – recently launched plans for Fyre Festival 2. But after he named Playa del Carmen as the host city, the local municipality released a statement, saying “There will be no event called ‘Fyre 2’ in Playa del Carmen…There is no existence of a registry nor plans that would indicate such an event taking place in this municipality.” In response, McFarland posted documentation allegedly showing paperwork filed with the city, email communication with officials, and receipts of payments submitted to secure permits. Fyre 2 is advertised as taking place from May 30-June 2, with tickets on sale for $1,400 to $25,000.

WEIRD NEWS

Have you ever thought about swapping your usual vanilla scoop for something…slimier? EasyJet has just unveiled a “snail and garlic-infused” ice cream, complete with crunchy sugar bits to mimic a shell. Yep, you heard that right — escargot ice cream. This daring dessert is part of a new lineup celebrating EasyJet’s new London Southend base, with each flavor inspired by a different destination, and available at the airport. So, if snail-flavored ice cream isn’t your thing (as if…), maybe you want to try “Spicy Tagine”, which is loaded with Moroccan spices and apricots to transport you straight to Marrakech. Or “Cacio e Pepe”, a creamy mix of parmesan, cracked black pepper, and lemon zest, straight from Pisa? For something sweeter, there’s “Sangria and Chocolate”, which blends fruity Spanish vibes with rich cocoa, and “Pastel de Nata”, an ice cream version of Portugal’s famous custard tart.

THE LIST

Here are 4 “unnecessary but convenient” gadgets that you don’t need – but they can make your life a little bit easier, according to USA Today . . .

Wireless light bulb: Rechargeable light bulbs are an alternative to traditional bulbs. Advantages include the fact they don’t need to be plugged in — or anywhere near an outlet. They’re portable – and often come with a number of color options.

Auto curtain opener: They’re the easiest way to open and close your curtains without – you know — doing anything. The rechargeable, roller devices attach to your curtain rod and are operated via app, eliminating the need to get out of bed or off your cozy couch when you forget to close them.

Smart planter: It can monitor light conditions, water levels, humidity and temperature, and let you know those are ideal for that plant. And even more info is available to would-be greenthumbs on the app.

Window cleaning robot: If a robot can do the vacuuming, why not the windows? It suctions to the surface, then scoots its way across. A remote control makes it easy to start, pause it, or change its direction.
