SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Well, they DO say it’s smart to have a back-up plan. A new survey says that many people in relationships are quietly keeping their options open. One in 6 Americans (16%) admit there’s someone they would leave their current partner for, if that person showed romantic interest. Men are more likely than women to have a “backup” (19% vs. 12%). One in 5 respondents said they don’t consider their partner their soulmate, though millennials are most likely to believe they’ve found “the one.” Psychologists say noticing attraction to others is normal human biology, not automatic betrayal. But the real warning sign is when someone starts comparing their real partner to a fantasy version of someone else, which can signal unmet needs in the relationship.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
What would you sacrifice for perfection? Ryan Murphy and company strike again, with an all-new thriller series centered around that very question. A trailer for “The Beauty”, premiering on FX TODAY (Jan. 21), dropped last week, and has already racked up nearly 190 million views, making it the network’s most-viewed trailer ever. The body-horror series’ clip hit the internet Jan. 5 and sees Ashton Kutcher‘s villainous lead character pushing a mysterious drug that “makes you effortlessly beautiful.” But it comes with a brutal cost, of course, kinda like in the 2024 movie “The Substance”, which starred Kutcher’s ex Demi Moore, oddly enough. The Recording Academy and CBS have announced that Emmy Award-winning comedian Trevor Noah will return as host of the Grammy Awards one “final” time on Sunday, Feb. 1. This will be Noah’s 6th time as host of the Grammy Awards, and he will also serve as an executive producer of the show, which takes place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Noah’s first year hosting the Grammys was in 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
DID YA KNOW!?
DID YOU KNOW… Humans glow in the dark—sort of. Our bodies emit tiny amounts of visible light due to biochemical reactions involving free radicals. The glow is far too faint for the human eye to see.

SCOOP
OF THE DAY
Could it be the next pickleball? Padel, a fast-growing racket sport, is quickly gaining popularity around the world. The game is played on a small, glass-walled court and blends elements of tennis and squash, making rallies longer…and play more social. Once concentrated in Spain and Argentina, padel is now played in roughly 90 countries, with tens of millions of participants, and rapid club growth across Europe. In the UK alone, more than 400,000 people tried it in 2025, and it’s estimated the game is played in 30 US states. The sport’s appeal lies in its accessibility: it’s usually played in doubles, keeps beginners engaged thanks to wall rebounds, and feels fun and welcoming from the very first match. Famous proponents of Padel include David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, and Rafael Nadal.

WEIRD NEWS
Three Taiwanese tourists ended up stranded on a snow-covered ski slope, after blindly following their car’s GPS. On January 6, emergency services in Andorra were called to rescue a Mercedes stuck near a snow cannon at Grau Roig. The complex recovery took over 3 hours, and required 3 cranes, though thankfully no one was hurt. Despite realizing they were off-road, the women kept following the GPS until the car became trapped. They even posed for a photo before being rescued, leaving a cautionary tale about trusting technology over common sense.
