Today we visit with Dr Zahi Hawass. He is featured in "The Man with the Hat", a cinematic journey into the life of famed Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, taking viewers back 4,000 years to explore ancient sites and never-before-seen discoveries. As Egypt's guardian of antiquities, he's unearthed major finds, created the real-life "Indiana Jones" character with his signature hat, and investigated mysteries of Cleopatra and Tutankhamun's death. https://amzn.to/46WILrA

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

What would it take to get you to do just 5 mins of exercise each day? How about an almost guaranteed longer lifespan? A new study suggests that adding as little as 5 minutes of daily exercise could help reduce the risk of premature death, particularly among those who are largely sedentary. The research, published in The Lancet, analyzed data from more than 130,000 participants in the UK, US, and Scandinavia. It was found that a 5-minute increase in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity among the least active individuals could prevent about 6% of deaths. Applied more broadly across the population, the reduction could reach 10%. Cutting daily sitting time by 30 minutes was also linked to meaningful, though smaller, declines in mortality.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Warner Bros is reuniting frequent collaborators Mike Flanagan and Stephen King on a new adaptation of “The Mist”, based on King’s acclaimed 1980 novella. In The Mist, a small town in Maine is consumed by a thick, mysterious fog from which creatures emerge to attack the townsfolk. A group of survivors hole up in a local grocery store. As often happens in King’s stories, anarchy and societal reordering brings out the best in some, and the absolute worst in others. The novella was previously turned into a 2007 film and a 2017 TV series.

The “Stranger Things 5” soundtrack has debuted in the top 10 in 7 different Billboard album charts…including at #1 on Vinyl Albums and #2 on Top Album Sales. The set features oldies heard in the 5th and final season of the hit Netflix series, including Michael Jackson’s ‘Rockin’ Robin’, ABBA’s ‘Fernando’, and David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’. The soundtrack sold 21,000 copies in the US last week. Vinyl sales comprise most of that sum, with 17,000 copies sold across 5 variants. The set is also available on CD, cassette and digital download.

DID YA KNOW!?

DID YOU KNOW… Some plants can “hear” insects chewing. Research shows certain plants respond to the sound vibrations of caterpillars feeding by releasing defensive chemicals. They react before significant damage is done.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The world’s fastest elevator has a top speed of 1,200 meters per minute — nearly 45mph (72km/h). It’s located inside the Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, a 530-meter tower that opened in 2016 as one of the tallest buildings in China. Built by Hitachi, the record-breaking elevators, which automatically adjust air pressure to protect riders’ ears, can whisk passengers from the ground to the 95th floor in just 43 seconds. Their incredible speed is made possible by lightweight traction machines, permanent magnet motors, and aerodynamic, capsule-shaped cars that cars designed to reduce wind resistance while keeping riders safe.

WEIRD NEWS

Waymo’s robotaxis may drive themselves, but they still need humans for one small task: shutting the darn door. If a passenger leaves it open, the vehicle won’t move until someone closes it…so the Alphabet-owned company is actually paying gig workers to step in. In Atlanta, DoorDash drivers can earn around $11 to swing a Waymo door shut, while Honk roadside contractors in Los Angeles have reportedly been offered up to $24. This pilot project highlights the limits of autonomous tech, as Waymo rolls out next-generation vehicles and expands to more US cities. The company remains a key part of Alphabet’s “Other Bets” division, which continues to post multibillion-dollar operating losses.

How is it you can be looking for something, be told EXACTLY where it is, and still not see it?

How is it you’re unable to remember what day is garbage day, when it hasn’t changed for 9 years?!

Isn’t it embarrassing how you act when you’re sick?

When a woman speaks about her feelings, does that sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher to you?

Do you want to go to ‘Bed , Bath and Beyond’ with me?

Why do you even try to argue with me?

Do you really need a seat for each of your legs?

If you speak in the forest and there’s no one there to hear you, are you still wrong?

Why is it when you watch your own kids, people say you’re ‘babysitting’?

Why do you act like you just cleaned the entire house when all you did was take out the trash?

Are you even listening to me?

Why can’t you just put the seat down?!!!
