SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
You’ve probably heard that being exposed to nature is good for you. Well, apparently, tree-lined streets may do more for your health than a stretch of open lawn. New research suggests that while both look “green” from above, trees and grass are not equal when it comes to cardiovascular health. Using artificial intelligence to analyze 350 million street-view images, researchers compared what people actually see at ground level – leafy canopies versus grass-heavy blocks. Neighborhoods with more trees were linked to lower rates of heart attack and stroke, while grass-dominated areas showed slightly higher rates. The findings come from a long-term study of nearly 90,000 participants in the Nurses’ Health Study, and the findings could have an impact on future urban planning.

Jason Alexander has opened up about the other actors that were considered for the role of ‘George Costanza’ on “Seinfeld”. During a recent episode of his podcast “Really? no, Really?”, Alexander and co-host Peter Tilden spoke about his audition for the role and the other actors in contention, saying: “So, I know about Chris Rock. I know about Danny DeVito. I know about Paul Schaefer. And I know about, um, Rosie O’Donnell.” Alexander also noted that he and actor Larry Miller auditioned at the same time and he initially thought Miller would get the part, because he was friends with the show’s star, Jerry Seinfeld.
“KPop Demon Hunters” sang and fought its way to total domination at the Annie Awards on Saturday, picking up 10 awards in the 12 film categories. Pixar’s “Elio,” which tied Demon Hunters” with 10 nominations, went home empty-handed, while the “KPop” hit ‘Golden’ was played incessantly at the ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The Annie Awards are considered the “Oscars of animation,” honoring individual artists and industry achievements in over 30 categories.
DID YA KNOW!?
DID YOU KNOW… Some trees can communicate with each other. Through underground fungal networks, trees share nutrients and send warning signals about pests. Scientists often call this system the “wood wide web.”

OF THE DAY
A study found that guppies seek ugly friends to make themselves look more attractive.
Ah…Friday, sweet Friday. The thing is, sometimes, by the end of the work day on Friday, you’re so wiped out from the stresses of the week, that you really don’t feel like doing ANYTHING. If that’s you, the people of Sweden are singing from the same songbook. There, they have a cozy tradition: “fredagsmys”, which translates to “cozy Friday.” It encourages people to stay in at week’s end, change into comfortable clothes, dim the lights, and unwind with simple food, snacks, TV, or board games. Popular in Sweden – especially during long winters – it’s designed to create a clear mental shift from work mode to weekend mode. Mental health experts say repeating a calming ritual each week can reduce stress, strengthen relationships, and signal safety to the nervous system. Lower lighting and familiar routines may even help the body relax more quickly. The key for you and I isn’t to copy Swedish customs exactly, but to create a predictable Friday night habit…that feels cozy to you.

WEIRD NEWS
Move over MMA: a new controversial contact sport features players slamming into each other full force. In Australia’s Run Nation Championship, 2 muscular athletes sprint head-on, aiming to knock each other down, with nothing but a mouthguard for protection. Born from the viral “run it straight” trend, the brutal sport has exploded online and is now seeking mainstream attention, like MMA, UFC or Power Slap. RNC has weight classes and draws competitors from rugby, football, and combat sports. Co-founder Tremaine Fernandez emphasizes safety with strict rules, player vetting, and medical staff, but concedes serious injuries, including concussions, remain an unavoidable risk. THE LIST
HIGHEST-PAID ATHLETES IN THE WORLD IN 2025:
Cristiano Ronaldo tops the sports ‘rich list’ again. According to figures compiled by Sportico, the soccer superstar earned an eye-watering $260 million over the past year. The 40-year-old collected $200 million in salary and winnings from Al-Nassr, plus $60 million in endorsements. Here’s the rest of the top 10…
2. Canelo Álvarez (boxing) – $137M
3. Lionel Messi (soccer) – $130M
4. Juan Soto (baseball) – $129.2M
5. LeBron James (basketball) – $128.7M
6. Karim Benzema (soccer) – $115M
7. Steph Curry (basketball) – $105.4M
8. Shohei Ohtani (baseball) – $102.5M
9. Kevin Durant (basketball) – $100.8M
10. Jon Rahm (golf) – $100.7M
Messi earned $60M on the pitch with Inter Miami CF and another $70M off it. Juan Soto’s $122.2M salary with the New York Mets powered his rise to 4th. Shohei Ohtani’s massive endorsement haul of $100M continues to dwarf his $2.5M salary with the LA Dodgers.
Interestingly – and disappointingly – no female athletes made the top 100. US tennis sensation Coco Gauff was the highest-earning female athlete for the 3rd straight year, at about $32M. Patrick Mahomes was the top-earning NFL player. The KC Chiefs QB came 17th with earnings of $80.3M.
