SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Widespread use of GLP-1 weight loss drugs could save major U.S. airlines up to $580 million a year in fuel costs. Research by investment firm Jefferies found lighter passenger loads would reduce aircraft weight and fuel consumption. The report estimates American Airlines, Delta, Southwest and United could see significant savings if more travelers use the medications. The Wall Street firm suggested that a 10% reduction in average passenger weight could lead to about a 2% savings in aircraft weight, 1.5% lower fuel costs and a 4% boost to earnings per share…and eventually even result in cheaper flights.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

As Ryan Murphy prepares to unleash lucky Season 13 of “American Horror Story”, the star-studded cast has quietly added a new name. Camp cinema legend John Waters recently revealed that he has “a big new part” in the upcoming season of the FX horror anthology series, which is expected to premiere in 2026 after Murphy teased the season on Halloween. Waters joked: “I’m typecast. I’m always either the devil or Chucky’s father… I’ve always been trying to steal Vincent Price’s career.”

“American Psycho” is one of the most iconic titles of the year 2000 – which might be why several actors have been hesitant to step into the role of the homicidal banker ‘Patrick Bateman’, according to author Bret Easton Ellis. While giving an update on the casting process for the novel’s forthcoming Luca Guadagnino-directed film adaptation, he said on his podcast: “A couple of high-profile actors, whom I can’t name, have turned it down.” Why? “They don’t want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale.” He also reported that he’s been told the new film is completely different from Mary Harron’s 2000 movie. Quote: “It’s a completely different take, and going to bear no resemblance to that movie.”

DID YA KNOW!?

DID YOU KNOW… Some mammals can delay pregnancy. Animals like kangaroos can pause embryo development until conditions are favorable. This allows them to better control the timing of birth.

JOKE OF THE DAY

SCOOP OF THE DAY

It’s 2008 again – or at least it feels that way. You’re offline, wandering a mall with an iPod in your pocket, unbothered and in control. That vibe is exactly why Gen Z is…reviving the iPod. Though discontinued in 2022, the device is finding new life among young people craving music without notifications, algorithms, or endless scrolling. Searches for iPods surged in 2025, refurbished sales keep climbing, and students are even using them as a workaround in schools that ban internet-connected devices. For Gen Z, the iPod isn’t nostalgia – it’s a loophole, a focus tool, and a small rebellion against being online all the time.

I didn’t think I’d ever see this happen, but landlines are making a quiet comeback in family homes – and not for nostalgia alone. Communication professor Kara Alaimo says some parents are reviving old-school phones to help kids build independence while delaying the use of social media. For Alison Lundberg, a San Diego communications executive, installing a landline solved a practical problem: how her 4-year-old would call 911 in an emergency. Now the ringing phone brings excitement, mystery, and real conversations…especially with grandparents. Other parents say landlines teach phone manners, encourage empathy, and remove screen distractions. Psychologist Shayl Griffith says landlines can help, but only as part of a broader media plan that prepares kids for life online later.

✓ Human brains are 10% smaller than they were 20,000 years ago.

✓ If you are 6 feet 2 inches tall, then you are taller than 94% of the people in the world.

✓ Snakes sleep with both eyes open.

✓ A zombie outbreak would never last more than 2 days, due to natural predators like maggots and hot weather tearing them apart.

If you keep going North, you will eventually go South, but if you keep going East, you will never go West.

WEIRD NEWS

Vancouver residents who prefer dining in are celebrating…because they can now order “the world’s largest deliverable pizza”. Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria has opened in the city, offering its legendary 54×54-inch (1.37m, or approx. 20 square feet) “Great Sicilian”. The mega-zaa apparently feeds 50-70 people, and is cut into 200 slices. The pizza is so huge it needs its own custom delivery car just to make it to your door, complete with the pizza secured in a custom box on top of the vehicle. And if that doesn’t give you an idea of how big it is, try THIS: One of their giant slices alone can feed 5-7 people. The Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria chain is based in Southern California, and became famous when, during the 86th Academy Awards in 2014, host Ellen DeGeneres had Big Mama’s pizzas delivered onstage. BTW, the Great Sicilian goes for about $350…plus $19 per topping…! But hey…if your pizza isn’t bigger than your couch, are you even living? LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr3svwdx

THE LIST

STARS TURNING 40 IN 2026:

Jamie Bell – March 14: From “Billy Elliott” to “Rocketman”, he’s gone from dancing kid to 40-year-old thespian.

Alexandra Daddario – March 16: Those famous blue eyes are turning 40 – somehow without aging a single pixel.

Lady Gaga – March 28: Still one of pop’s trendsetters. No word on whether she’ll wear a meat dress to her b-day party…

Leighton Meester – April 9: Blair Waldorf enters her fabulous 40s…“XOXO” never looked so grown-up.

Amber Heard — April 22: She’s been laying low lately, which is exactly how I spent my 40th!

Robert Pattinson – May 13: “Twilight’s” emo royalty turns 40…and hopefully stays mysterious forever.

Ryan Coogler – May 23: The “Black Panther” director hits 40, which feels unfair, given how accomplished he already is. Some people really do speed-run adulthood.

Megan Fox – May 16: She may be 40, but will forever be “that awesome robot fight lady” to the internet.

Shia LaBeouf – June 11: From “Transformers” angst to “Holocaust” performance art, 40 looks…well, interesting. (We hope he won’t be celebrating in New Orleans…!)

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen – June 13: The original twin takeover turns 40 – and they’re somehow still cooler than all of us. (And they’ve been a part of pop culture for…40 years!)

Kat Dennings – June 13: Sarcasm icon, queen of deadpan, and living proof that eye-rolls are a renewable energy source. 40 suits her very well.

Lindsay Lohan – July 2: The “Mean Girls’” MVP hits 40. I checked, and her birthday will be a Freaky Thursday!

Emmy Rossum – Sept. 12: From “Shameless” chaos to prestige projects, she’s officially entering her “I don’t have to explain myself” era.

Usain Bolt – Aug. 21: The fastest man alive turns 40…and now he’s probably only the fastest at leaving the party before 10pm!

Emilia Clarke – Oct. 23: The fire-breathing queen of Westeros turns 40. Winter may be coming, but she’s aging like fine wine.

Drake – Oct. 24: Is 40 officially too old to be involved in a rap battle…and to be called ‘Drizzy’?

Penn Badgley – Nov. 1: The charming face of TV’s most unsettling inner monologue turns 40. Joe Goldberg with a mortgage is somehow even scarier.

Also: Drake Bell (June 27) and Josh Peck (Nov 10) are both hitting the big 4-0.
