SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Workers say their jobs are starting to feel like 3 roles in one—and many aren’t being rewarded for it. A survey of 2,000 U.S. employees found workloads are steadily growing, with people taking on an average of 9 new tasks each year. Most (78%) said they’ve been “voluntold” to do extra work, often without discussion, largely due to understaffing. Despite the added responsibilities, more than half haven’t received a raise or promotion. Burnout is rising, with many saying the extra duties hurt their performance. While AI tools were meant to help, many workers say they’ve only increased expectations instead of easing the load.

Key stats from the survey…

• 78% have been “voluntold” to take on extra work

• 53% received no raise or promotion

• 91% say new tasks fall outside their job description

• 74% say added work hurts their performance

• 17% say the new responsibilities were framed as temporary, but became permanent.

• 41% report burnout

• 43% say AI has increased their workload

• Just 7% say AI reduced their workload

40% said that aside from effective AI training, additional pay or recognition for all the work they do would be the most helpful thing.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Bill Cosby has taken a huge loss in court. TMZ says a jury reportedly awarded $19.25 million to Donna Motsinger after she alleged the comedian drugged and raped her in 1972. Jurors reportedly found Cosby liable for sexual assault and sexual battery, while awarding Motsinger $17.5 million for past mental suffering, and $1.75 million for future suffering. Cosby served almost 3 years in prison for aggravated indecent assault, but was released in 2021 after Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction based on a previous promise from a prosecutor not to charge him.

A ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ tour is reportedly in the works. Netflix is planning a “global concert tour” based around the film and its hit soundtrack, and is currently negotiating with promoters for the tour. The voices of HUNTR/X, EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna, might be involved, but virtual or hologram performers have also been discussed. It would take place in 2027, well ahead of the upcoming sequel. Tens of millions of dollars have been offered, but sources say Netflix may pull the plug based on costs, or if the streamer can’t figure out how to pull it off.

Miley Cyrus went back to her “Hannah Montana” days Monday night as she celebrated the world premiere of Disney+’s “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.” The star-studded event at L.A.’s El Capitan Theatre featured most of her costars from the original cast. Cyrus played the iconic role of ‘Miley Stewart’, a teen who doubles as pop star ‘Hannah Montana’, giving herself the stage name to maintain anonymity. The new anniversary special premiered on Disney+ yesterday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/35d293cj

DID YA KNOW!?

DID YOU KNOW… Your sense of smell is closely linked to memory. Smells bypass the brain’s rational filters and connect directly to emotional centers. This is why scents can trigger vivid memories.

JOKE OF THE DAY

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Python blood, of all things, may point to a new weight-loss drug – and scientists weren’t even looking for one. Researchers studying Burmese pythons discovered a molecule, pTOS, that spikes after eating, and appears to signal fullness to the brain. When tested in obese mice, daily doses reduced food intake and led to about 9% weight loss in 4 weeks, without major side effects. The compound is produced through interactions between gut bacteria and the liver and also rises in humans after meals. A patent has been filed, but treatment on humans is expected to be years away.

Pokémon fans can now take their love to the next level…with official Pokémon-themed engagement rings. Created by Japanese jeweler U-Treasure, the collection features 21 designs with customizable options, including different metals, gemstones, and subtle Pokémon silhouettes inside the band. Couples can personalize rings to reflect shared memories, with engraving options and even a Poké Ball-style ring box. While themed merchandise is nothing new, these higher-end pieces mark a more sophisticated entry into fandom. Prices start around $2,100, sparking mixed reactions online, ranging from genuine excitement to jokes. But many fans say they’d happily say “I choose you” to a proposal like this. ✓ In German, the word “backpfeifengesicht” means “a face that needs to be punched”.

✓ When Billboard first introduced the country music chart in 1939, it was called the “Hillbilly” chart.

WEIRD NEWS

A Moscow man’s “free pizza for life” deal isn’t delivering any longer. Dmitry Mazentsev was among 350 winners of a 2018 Domino’s promo offering 100 pizzas a year for 100 years to anyone who got a tattoo of the brand’s logo. He inked his ankle, and enjoyed his perks for 5 years — then in 2023, Domino’s exited Russia following the Ukraine invasion, ending the deal. Not to be left without his free pizza, Mazentsev sued, arguing the company should honor the promise through 2118 and pay damages, but a Moscow court ruled against him. Domino’s has offered to pay for tattoo removal. Mazentsev now admits that he has grown tired of pizza anyway.

THE LIST

FOOD “NORMS” THAT AREN’T NECESSARILY NORMAL:

a Reddit user recently asked the “AskOldPeople” community to share their food habits growing up. Here are some of the most interesting answers…

→ “The whole concept of ‘snacks’ was quite foreign when I was a kid. It was either ‘wait for dinner’ or ‘you already ate.’ Things like sodas just weren’t in the fridge, although Kool-Aid was occasionally.”

→ “Snacks were ‘have an apple.’ If you weren’t hungry for an apple, you weren’t hungry.”

→ “We didn’t eat out back then, except maybe on a special occasion, and lunch was usually just a sandwich.

→ “McDonald’s didn’t come to town until I was a teenager; fast food didn’t exist.”

→ “We didn’t take water bottles or snacks everywhere, and you generally didn’t see people eating or drinking anything unless they were socializing or having a meal.”

→ “Portion sizes are vastly different…Cokes were originally six ounces. Six! A large Coke at McDonald’s is five times that now.

→ “We had meat and potatoes and MAYBE an iceberg lettuce salad for dinner every night. A classic example would be Hamburger Helper or ground beef and mashed potatoes…my mom would put leeks in water, which was our vegetable.”

→ “The microwave oven doesn’t get nearly enough credit for how it changed what, how, and when we eat. Hot meals were no longer a luxury.

→ “I can count on one hand the number of times my parents ordered pizza when I was a kid (that’s why pizza day in school was such a treat!).

→ “There was bread at every meal, and our meals were eaten together at the table. Afterward, I cleaned up and closed the kitchen for the night by turning on the light over the stove.”

→ “Our big snack was popcorn. If I wanted a dessert, I had to make it from scratch. Tang powder was a dessert (like Pixy Stix). Candy was eaten only during holidays.”
