SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Older adults may have some self-care wisdom worth sharing. A survey of 1,000 adults aged 65+ and 1,000 caregivers found that 58% believe older generations take better care of themselves than younger ones. The study (conducted in the US & Canada) also found that 90% of seniors say self-care has a positive impact on their daily lives. Common self-care activities include walking, spending time with loved ones, watching shows and movies, and maintaining grooming routines. Researchers found that seniors who regularly practice self-care are significantly happier than those who do not. Here are some beauty and grooming tips offered up by seniors who took part in the study…
• “No matter your age, older adult or not, take good care of your teeth so you can always feel like smiling.”
• “Walk every day.”
• “A good haircut can do wonders.”
• “Always stay clean-shaven and bathed.”
• “Use daily moisturizer and sunscreen.”
• “Stay active and hydrated and use products appropriate for your skin type.”
• “Never skip the grooming, even if you are staying home that day. Dress up, wear makeup, look your best because it will make you feel great/better.”
• “Put ‘bling’ combs in your hair.”
• “Get outside and into the sun. Soaking up some sunshine does wonders.”
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“Reagan”, the biopic starring Dennis Quaid, is getting a theatrical re-release on July 4 weekend, tied to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. There will be limited screenings in more than a dozen cities on July 4, with a wide release in about 600 theaters in September. The theatrical run will include an additional 10 minutes of unreleased footage. Additional scenes include moments between Reagan and his wife Nancy (Penelope Ann Miller) in the Oval Office, a scene between Reagan and his alcoholic father, Jack, and scenes at the Reagans’ ranch near Santa Barbara.
Zac Efron is building his sustainable dream home in Australia. He’s currently working on the eco-conscious build, which he’s named “FutureCave,” with Dutch-Australian designer Joost Bakker. Efron’s unique home is coming to life near Byron Bay in New South Wales, years after he purchased a plot of land there in 2020. The house will mostly be made out of hemp, including the internal bricks and joinery. The plant will be sourced from a farm in the area. Other pieces in the home, from Efron’s mattress to the curtains and pillows, will also reportedly be derived from hemp.
Helen Mirren, one of the world’s most acclaimed actors, was added Friday to a very select group of people recognized by King Charles III for their “major contribution” to British life. The 80-year-old was named a “Companion of Honour,” one of the highest awards the King can bestow to citizens in the UK and across the Commonwealth. The honours, which reward individuals for their contributions to British life, are awarded twice a year to celebs and public figures as well as ordinary people, once at New Year’s, and in June, to mark the King’s birthday.

DID YOU KNOW… A group of hedgehogs is called a “prickle.” The name reflects their sharp spines. Many collective nouns originated as descriptive humor.

WHY IS IT CALLED ‘SOCCER” IN SOME COUNTRIES…AND FOOTBALL’ IN OTHERS? (The 2026 FIFA World Cup is happening now)
England created the rules for modern soccer in 1863, but there was a problem: another popular sport, rugby football, was also called football. To tell them apart, British students nicknamed rugby football “rugger” and Association Football (named after England’s Football Association) “assoccer,” which was eventually shortened to “soccer.” Over time, most of the world dropped the nickname and simply called the sport football. But in countries where other sports also called football became popular – such as American football in the United States, Canadian football in Canada, and Australian rules football in Australia – “soccer” remained the easiest way to distinguish Association Football from the other versions of football still being played. It is also largely referred to as soccer, or both soccer and football, in New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa.

WEIRD NEWS
Digital wallet Cash App is turning a viral social-media gimmick into a real product, with the launch of a $25 “payment wand”. Inspired by those homemade “magic wands” that you might have seen on TikTok, which contain hidden tap-to-pay cards, the gadget links to a user’s Cash App Card and works anywhere Visa tap-to-pay is accepted. The wand can be attached to bags or clothing and is designed to make quick payments without pulling out a phone or wallet, which might be handy at events like concerts or sporting events. Of course, the real attraction here is the fact that it’s fun to be able to tap a wand to pay for things, especially on special occasions like birthday shopping trips, which may appeal to younger users. Users receive instant spending alerts and can lock, unlock, or deactivate the device through the app if it’s lost. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/59kvzj2

THE LIST
As I’m sure you heard, Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire on Friday, after SpaceX’s first day of trading sent the company’s stock up as much as 30%. The tech entrepreneur’s net worth skyrocketed (See what I did there?) to $1.1 trillion, according to Forbes. But how much is a trillion, really? One trillion is a thousand times greater than 1 billion. And a million times more than 1 million. So…how much money is $1 trillion? Here are some other interesting facts about Musk’s riches, as the owner of Tesla, X, and more than half of the available SpaceX shares…
• The founders of Google, Amazon, Oracle, and Meta combined are worth about $1.3 trillion.
• Only 21 countries have a Gross Domestic Product of over $1 trillion.
• If your household brings in $84,000 a year (the US median income in 2024), it would take you 12 million years to make a trillion dollars.
• If you painstakingly laid out 1 trillion one-dollar bills end to end, it would stretch the distance of 200 round trips to the moon.
• With $1 trillion, you could give everyone in the world $122. Or instead, you could buy…
• Every piece of property in Houston for $879 billion, or…
• 243 billion gallons of gas at $4.11 a gallon. (Americans only bought 137 billion gallons of gas last year), or…
• Every carmaker in the Europe, Japan, and the US (excluding Tesla)…and still have $100 billion left over.
