SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Your ability to do push-ups could reveal a lot about your heart health. A 10-year study of more than 1,100 male firefighters found that men who could complete 40 or more push-ups had a 96% lower rate of serious cardiovascular problems than those who could do fewer than 10. Researchers found push-up capacity was an even stronger predictor of future heart issues than some treadmill fitness tests. While push-ups themselves aren’t necessarily the reason, they appear to be an indicator of overall fitness, cardiovascular health, and other important heart-risk factors.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“Dutton Ranch” is off to the races at Paramount+. The “Yellowstone” spinoff pulled in the biggest series launch in the streamer’s history. Paramount says the first 2 episodes reached 12.9 million views within 7 days of their May 15 release. That’s well beyond the previous holder of the record for biggest Paramount+ launch, which was the 8.8 million views achieved by the series premiere of “Mobland” in 2025.
“Ninja Warrior” is making its way to the Olympics. Tokyo Broadcasting System Television – the producer behind the TV format “Sasuke” (adapted around the world as various versions of “Ninja Warrior”) – has sealed a deal to incorporate the format into the new Modern Pentathlon discipline of “obstacle racing.” The International Olympic Committee voted in 2023 to include the updated Modern Pentathlon with obstacle racing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Jennie Garth says she was “hypnotized” so she wouldn’t be too nervous while filming season 5 of “Dancing with the Stars”. Speaking on a recent podcast, Garth said: “I think that that show was really showed me how strong I was. And I was, but I was so happy when I got kicked off.” Why? She said that the “stress and the spotlight” forced her to “get hypnotized to, like, not pee my pants when they said, ‘And dancing the waltz, Jennie Garth and her partner, Derek Hough.” In fact, she said, just talking about it on the podcast gave her “PTSD bumps right now.”

OF THE DAY
By age 32, many adults say they organize their social lives around sleep, according to a survey of 2,000 people. Respondents say rest steadily becomes a higher priority than late nights or early mornings, with many turning down plans that interfere with bedtime. That often includes anything planned for after 9pm or before 7:30am. Instead of simply saying no, people sometimes reach for creative excuses. Some of those include claims of being “abducted by aliens” or arrested. On average, people said they skip about 4 social plans each month, and nearly half feel no guilt about it. Many even set clear boundaries with friends to protect their sleep time. Some additional stats from the survey…
• 64% prefer weekends with no plans
• 41% tell others not to invite them at certain times
• 55% of Gen Z set sleep-related boundaries, vs. 29% of baby boomers
• 61% of Baby Boomers “never” feel guilty saying no, vs. 28% Gen Z
• 25% prefer Friday evening outings, 20% prefer Saturday afternoon
• The ideal hangout lasts about 2.5 hours with about 4 other people
• Top plans: dinner (37%), lunch (33%), small gatherings (27%)

WEIRD NEWS
Idaho record-breaker David Rush has added another Guinness World Record to his collection by putting on 32 T-shirts…in one minute. Rush, who holds the world record for holding the most world records concurrently, said the attempt became tougher with every layer, comparing the growing pile of shirts to “wrestling a straitjacket.” To beat the previous mark, he needed to successfully put on 25 shirts within the time limit. He actually managed 35, but Guinness disqualified 3 of them because they didn’t fully clear his waistline. His official total of 32 was enough to secure yet another world record title.
