SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A new study found that birds tend to fly away sooner when approached by women than by men. Researchers sent similarly dressed men and women to walk toward birds of 37 different species, and discovered that men could usually get about a meter closer - before the birds took off. Scientists controlled for factors like height, clothing and hair, but still the birds were more fearful of women. The researchers believe birds may be detecting subtle cues that humans barely notice, such as movement patterns, scent or body shape. They theorize that in prehistoric times, men probably hunted big game, and women hunted smaller prey, such as birds, so there could be an evolutionary reason for birds’ avoidance of females. Experts say the findings highlight how sensitive urban birds are to their surroundings.

A TV drama chronicling the early life of Celine Dion is in the works. The show, with the working title “Growing Up Dion” marks the first time the singer’s family has formally supported a dramatized adaptation of her childhood, with her brother Jacques Dion producing, and the show based on the book “Dion, A Family Saga”, written by her nephew Jimmy Dion. The project traces Celine’s childhood in Quebec and formative years growing up in a modest, music-filled household, where her bond with her mother Thérèse and close- knit dynamic of 14 sibling relationships shaped her path to stardom.
Michael Bublé and Drew Scott will step into the world of junior hockey in “Hometown Giants”, a documentary series that toplines Prime Video’s latest Canadian slate. The series will launch this fall. It will see singer and “The Voice” coach Bublé and “Property Brothers” presenter Scott becoming joint owners of the Vancouver Giants, a junior hockey team from which teen players chase their shot at the NHL.

WEIRD NEWS
An Ohio family has ‘stepped’ its way into the record books after sending a Slinky down 53 stairs at a stadium. Joe and Christelle Luchsinger, along with their 5-year-old son Axel, made the attempt at Otterbein Stadium in Westerville. Joe, a resident at the Yale School of Medicine, said the idea came from Axel, who’s currently obsessed with everything being “the biggest” or “most extreme.” After discovering the previous Guinness World Record was 30 stairs, the family figured they could top it. Using a 6-inch rainbow Slinky, they successfully reached 53 steps, smashing the mark set in 2014. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/55w7rfkd

THE LIST
THE MOST RAGE-INDUCING TECH PROBLEMS:
or “Ways the Tech Industry Could Stop Being Such a Colossal Goddamn Pain in the Ass”, according to Brian Phillips of The Ringer…
1. Actually text me the one-time passcode, rather than saying you sent it to me while instead texting it to the molten core of the earth.
2. Do not make me scan a QR code and go through an 11-step account activation process just to park my car for 7 minutes.
3. When I click the “remember this device” box, maybe, I don’t know, try to remember the device?
4. Please, please stop asking me to verify my humanity by clicking on tiny motorcycles.
5. I want to watch 2 YouTube videos. I watch one of them. I click the back button. I see the other video’s thumbnail for about one one-hundredth of a second before the page scrambles, all the images change, and the video I wanted to watch is lost forever in the maelstrom of time and space.
6. Stop connecting me to customer service chatbots unequipped to handle even a single conceivable customer service issue.
7. Don’t make me check in online 6 separate times for every doctor’s appointment, when we both know I’m going to have to answer the same questions when I get there.
8. Stop doing the thing where the banner reappears and hides the very lines of text I’m trying to read.
9. For the love of God, please figure out shipping status updates.
10. Get touch screens out of cars!
11. Could streaming services perhaps go back to being better than cable?
12. Make weather apps accurately relay the weather.
