From executive producer Jon Favreau (director of the live-action Lion King movie) and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, Lion — filmed in Kenya over 1,400 days across 52 shoots — is the first natural history production to document a lion's complete journey from vulnerable cub to king.

Thanks to the rise in UFO news coverage, more of us are starting to believe in aliens these days, particularly younger generations. A new survey of 2,000 people (in the US) found that 37% now believe in aliens more than they did previously, while 54% say their views haven’t changed. Gen Z showed the biggest shift, with 54% saying recent coverage increased their belief, compared with 45% of millennials, 36% of Gen X and 23% of baby boomers. Men were more likely than women to say coverage boosted their belief. If intelligent alien life were confirmed tomorrow, 38% said they’d be curious, while 17% said they’d be afraid. Men were also nearly twice as likely as women to say they’d be excited about the confirmation of alien life. One more stat? 60% of those polled think governments know more about UFOs than they’ve shared.

Tom Cruise has officially announced the sequel to “Days of Thunder”, with Anne Hathaway joining the cast for the follow-up to the 1990 racing film. The stars made the announcement Saturday at an empty Daytona International Speedway, home of the Daytona 500, in front of a scuffed-up, lime green NASCAR, touting a Summer 2028 release. Days of Thunder is the second iconic film franchise that Cruise has revisited decades later, following the release of “Top Gun: Maverick in 2022”, 36 years after the original. 38 years will have passed between the Days of Thunder movies.
When the “Days of Thunder” follow up film was announced Saturday by Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway, many fans were thrilled, with one notable exception. Randy Quaid, who starred with Cruise in the original 1990 NASCAR film, ranted about Hathaway’s casting in a post on X. He wrote: “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole” (likely referring to Nicole Kidman who starred in the original). The noted conspiracy theorist also called Hathaway “a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA.” Hathaway and Cruise will film the sequel nearly 40 years after the original movie was released. Dig out your Juicy Couture tracksuits, oversized sunglasses and Von Dutch trucker hats because Paris Hilton is going back to the early 2000s. She’s producing a documentary on the era for Roku. Hilton will feature in and exec produce “The It Girls: Inside the 2000s”. The documentary, which is now in pre-production, will explore the time when paparazzi, tabloids and reality TV transformed celebrities into commodities and fundamentally changed the relationship between fame, media and popular culture. It will feature archive, never-before-seen conversations and new interviews with some of the major figures involved. The It Girls: Inside the 2000s will air next year.

Calling all dessert lovers: Your skills are very much in demand. The Tiramisù World Cup is looking for 130 amateur tasters to serve on its biggest-ever public jury in Treviso, Italy, this October. Hopeful judges must first pass an online test launching September 12. The 15-question quiz covers competition rules, tiramisù history and the culture of the Treviso area. Successful applicants will sample and score traditional and creative tiramisù during the October 9–10 qualifying rounds. The 2026 event marks the competition’s 10th anniversary. Uber is giving parents a new way to keep an eye on their teens during rides. The company is rolling out a live video feature that uses the driver’s selfie camera, allowing linked parents to watch the trip in real time. Both the driver and teen are notified when the livestream is viewed. Uber says the video is encrypted and disappears when the ride ends, and no one is able to access it afterward. The feature is already available in 9 US markets and will expand nationwide in the coming weeks. Uber’s teen accounts launched in the US in 2023.

Construction workers in Belgium struck an incredible jackpot this week, uncovering an estimated $10.4 million worth of gold while installing a sewer beneath a former brewery near Brussels.
