THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I need help finding my dog. He was last seen on (street edited out) He only has three legs as I accidentally slammed the car door on his front right paw and the leg needed to be amputated. He is also missing an eye, due to my son accitentally poking hi with a stick. Oh his left ear is missing after the pitbull down the street mauled him. His tail is also flat after the neighbor rolled over it with his motorcycle. The family is really missing our dog, so if anyone sees him, please let us know. He answers to the name LUCKY! :-)
Cheers!

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A new survey found that – believe it or not – more than half of us aren’t always honest — with our dentist! And when you heard that, did ‘flossing’ immediately come to mind? The survey of 2,000 adults in the US found that 57% have lied to their dentist about their dental hygiene. Why? Six in 10 said they did so because they wanted to “impress” their dentist. 33% said they simply didn’t want their dentist to think less of them. But whatever the reason, it may have been all for naught. Nearly half (48%) think their dentist can see right through their falsehoods about brushing and flossing habits. By the way, no matter what they told their dentist, 53% of respondents admitted in the survey that they don’t floss.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
If you’re going to see “Avatar: Fire and Ash” when it hits theaters, plan to stay awhile. James Cameron has revealed to Empire magazine that the upcoming third installment in his “Avatar” franchise will actually be longer than 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water”, which ran 3 hours and 12 minutes. He explained: “In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie 2. (It) was moving like a bullet train…So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’” But fans might not mind the film’s length: The first Avatar is the highest-grossing movie of all time – and The Way of Water is third.
“Wheel of Fortune’s” Vanna White made a surprising revelation about her work schedule at the long-running game show. During an appearance last week on a syndicated radio morning show, White, who has co-hosted “Wheel” for 42 years, revealed, in her words: “We film about 34 days a year. That’s it.” She then jokingly asked for sympathy for her schedule, saying: “But [we film] six shows a day. Come on. You could feel bad for me.” In late 2023, she signed a 2-year contract extension that included what was called a “substantial increase” on the $3 million annually she was making at that point.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know there's a 3,400-year-old song? “Hurrian Hymn No. 6" is considered one of Earth’s earliest melodies, dating back to the 14th century. It was inscribed in cuneiform on clay tablets, which were excavated by archeologists from the ancient city of Ugarit (which is now known as Syria). You can actually listen to the tune performed on lyre by composer Michael Levy!

OF THE DAY
A woman stole $1000 in laundry detergent from a Pennsylvania grocery store.
In what could be a step toward bringing back the woolly mammoth, which went extinct about 4,000 years ago (or perhaps the plot of a bad sci-fi movie…) scientists have created genetically modified mice with similar traits. Mice with similar traits to a woold mammoth? Yup. They have curly whiskers and wavy, light hair that grows 3 times longer than that of an ordinary lab mouse. The US company Colossal Bioscience says it developed the mice with the idea that someday, they could genetically modify elephants to be hairy and better able to withstand the cold. Why? The eventual goal is to help stop global warming. In spite of the fact that critics say it’s all a publicity stunt, Colossal says it wants to create herds of what it calls mammoth-like creatures to live in the arctic tundra. The company says the creatures’ grazing habits would encourage grasslands to flourish and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide being released from melting permafrost. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which is one of the main drivers of global warming. Co-founder and CEO Ben Lam said that the woolly mice mark a big step forward, and they plan to “have the first cold-adapted elephant by 2028”.

WEIRD NEWS
A Thai man found a whole snake frozen inside an ice cream bar that he had purchased from a street cart. The man, known online as Rayban Naklengboon, shared pictures of the bizarre discovery on Facebook, where the post quickly went viral. With his pic, he wrote: “Such big eyes! Is it dead yet? Black bean, street vendor, real picture…” Black bean is a kind of ice cream in Thailand. The black-and-yellow snake’s head was clearly visible in the picture he posted.

THE LIST
CONTROVERSIAL FOOD OPINIONS:
…from BuzzFeed contributors. Do you agree?
⇒ “Celery is the devil’s vegetable. Its stringy, pungent, and tastes like I just ate a mouthful of dirt.”
⇒ “Hard taco shells are actively unpleasant and a terrible vehicle for otherwise good food.”
⇒ “Raw onions should be banned from 9/10 dishes. Nothing ruins a meal faster for me then seeing tiny pieces of raw onion everywhere.
⇒ “I love to let my cereal sit in milk and get soggy. Most people think this is absolutely crazy. I can’t understand why anyone would eat Grapenuts without letting them get soggy!”
⇒ “IMO, potatoes, no matter the form, taste generally the same. Don’t get me wrong, I love some potatoes, but just like Tom Hanks’ acting, they are the same no matter what they are trying to be.”
⇒ “I horrify wine-lovers when I tell them I’d rather drink the grape juice before it went bad.”
