THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I'd love some ideas. I took some time off, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose my job when I return to work. I will tell the whole story to make it all make sense. I typically have weekends off. I work longer hours each weekday and get some family time on the weekends. I usually spend that time with my kids. Last weekend my kids were with their mother, so I was home alone. I had a few beers and planned to stay home to watch movies. At about 5pm on Saturday, I got a frantic call that they needed me at work if I could come in to help for an hour. I live nearby so I walked over and helped out through dinner rush. I was chomping on mints all the way there and did my best to not seem like I had been drinking. Everything went pretty good, but someone left a bad review on facebook. They said they thought the guy working at the counter seemed like he was drunk. That was me. I don't think I was drunk, but I absolutely had been drinking. I saw the bad review on Sunday and called in sick Monday. I was actually sick, but now I'm better and I'm afraid to go to work. I think I'm probably gonna get fired when I go back to work. I probably should have told them no when they asked me to come in to help. I didn't want to leave them in a bad spot, but now I feel like I left them in a worse spot. Any advice? What would you do in this situation? I need to go in tomorrow and I'm dreading it.
Signed – Maybe Fired Soon

One in 4 adults practices daily positive affirmations — and believes in manifestation, according to a new survey of 2,000 people in the US, by Talker Research. And many pair this positive mindset with physical reminders, like sticky notes, journals, lists, or vision boards, as ways of keeping goals visible in everyday life. Nearly half of people said they actually print motivational materials weekly, while 28% write affirmations by hand, and 19% print quotes or images. Respondents said that physical reminders work best when they’re easy to create and update, and they fit naturally into routines, with bedrooms, desks, and planners being top locations. Nine in 10 said having their goals on display helps to boost motivation, focus, confidence, and hope.

Piers Morgan seems to be in good spirits despite taking a nasty spill that sent him to the hospital for a broken femur. Sunday, he posted a picture on X of him flashing a thumbs-up while lying in a hospital bed with tubes going into his nose. He didn’t seem too bothered, cheekily referring to his misfortune as “BREAKING NEWS” before walking his followers through a 9-step recap of the events that landed him in hospital. Those included: 1) “tripped on small step” 2) “in a London hotel restaurant” (with a “rolling eyes” emoji) 3) “fractured femur” and 4) “so badly I needed a new hip.” He added that he’ll be using crutches for 6 weeks. Penn & Teller’s magic act vanished from Las Vegas over the weekend…due to injury. Penn Jillette took to Facebook on Saturday, to say: “We are sorry to have to cancel this weekend’s shows. I broke my ankle…” The iconic duo has been wowing audiences for 50 years, performing nearly 300 live shows every year. Their show was called “The single best show in Vegas” by the LA Times, and their hit series “Penn & Teller: Fool Us!”, where up-and-coming magicians try to fool the famous pair, has been renewed for a 12th season. Reportedly, shows may resume February 5.

ChatGPT is about to start serving up more than just answers. Open AI plans to begin testing ads inside ChatGPT, marking the platform’s first move into advertising. The labeled ads will appear at the bottom of responses for adult users on the free and lowest-cost subscription tiers. OpenAI says it will not sell user data to advertisers and won’t place ads alongside responses to sensitive topics such as health or politics. The change is designed to create a new revenue stream while maintaining limits on how and where ads appear.
“The Most Interesting Man in the World” is back! You remember the “Dos Equis” guy, right? The guy who makes index funds sound thrilling. He doesn’t follow trends – algorithms follow him. And his retirement plan has a fan club. After a decade-long hiatus, Dos Equis brought back the legendary “Most Interesting Man in the World” campaign with a commercial that aired yesterday during the College Football Championship. The original Most Interesting Man, Jonathan Goldsmith, who is now 87, is back in the saddle, although the campaign will be refreshed for a modern audience with social media pushes, store displays, live events, and even his own LinkedIn presence. Heineken USA says the original campaign tripled the brand’s size, and company research shows 83% of viewers would like the ads to return. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n8abp33

WEIRD NEWS
A Swedish soccer fan set a new Guinness World Record by keeping a ball in the air for an astonishing 28 hours, 21 minutes and 2 seconds, using only his knees, chest, head and feet. Daniel Yaakob achieved the feat at a sports complex in Linköping, Sweden, with rules allowing him a 15-minute break every 3 hours. He surpassed the previous record of 26 hours, set in 2010. Also known as “kick-ups” or “keepie-uppies”, Yaakob said he hopes the record will inspire others to push their limits and use social media to highlight positive achievements.
