SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
If you’re a night owl, you should consider getting to bed earlier, for the health of it. Going to bed between 10-11pm is better for your heart than staying up later, according to a UK study carried out a few years ago. Researchers tracked over 88,000 adults for a week using wrist monitors and lifestyle surveys, then followed their health for 6 years. People who fell asleep after 11pm had a 12% higher risk of heart and circulatory disease, and those who went to bed at midnight or later faced a 25% higher risk. And don’t think that going to bed right after “Jeopardy!” will do you any favors: Those who fell asleep before 10pm were found to have a 24% increased risk of suffering cardiovascular disease. The effect of bedtime on heart health was especially noticeable in women. The researchers caution the study shows links, not cause and effect, and stressed that more research is needed.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” is getting rave reviews from critics and fans, but is facing a weak 4-day opening weekend of an estimated $15 million, putting it in in the #2 spot on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, against the 5th weekend of “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” Industry estimates have the latest from James Cameron earning $17.6 million domestically over the weekend.
“Heated Rivalry” has been one of the breakout success shows at the end of 2025 and into the new year. For context, the steamy romance series peaked as the #2 most in-demand show globally since it premiered on the Canadian streaming platform Crave on Nov. 28. Additionally, the show reached 95 times the average series demand globally, the highest global peak demand for a Canadian show since 2020, beating both the consistently high-demand children’s show “PAW Patrol” — and “Schitt’s Creek.”

SCOOP
OF THE DAY
Coca-Cola’s recipe, one of the world’s most closely guarded trade secrets, may have finally been cracked. Scientist Zach Armstrong, who runs the YouTube channel LabCoatz, claims to have recreated the 139-year-old formula…and he says that Coke is over 99% sugar. The remaining secret lies in “natural flavors,” which Armstrong analyzed using mass spectrometry to produce a chemical fingerprint. Over the course of a year, by combining precise amounts of essential oils, like lemon, lime, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pine-like fenchol (whatever that is…), with caramel, phosphoric acid, caffeine, vanilla, and tannins, he created a version almost indistinguishable from the original. While costly, the mixture can be diluted to produce litres for just pennies, with all ingredients legally obtainable for home experiments. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4y7m3mce

WEIRD NEWS
The phrase “6-7”, which has gone viral among kids, literally means nothing. But yet, somehow it makes sense, say linguistic experts. The point is that the phrase carries social meaning, signaling belonging and solidarity within a peer group, rather than conveying any semantic content. Adolescents, navigating intense social development, adopt slang like “6-7” to stake their identity and separate themselves from younger kids and adults. While adults may roll their eyes, the trend reflects normal, age-appropriate social signaling – and like most fads, it will eventually fade. The bad news? A new, probably equally perplexing phrase will take its place.
