Seven in 10 people say they’d “rather be buried in a cardboard box” than have their family overspend on a funeral. That’s according to a new study of 2,000 Americans, 81% of whom reported giving at least “some thought” to what their memorial service will be like. Millennials (ages 26–40), were found to be 61% more likely than baby boomers (57–75) to have given “moderate thought” to what their own funeral service will be like. One in 4 adults have given it a “great deal of thought” (25%).

"Unchained Melody," known as one of the most classic love songs of all time and popularized by the Righteous Brothers, was first written in 1955 for a rather unexpected reason: It was the theme song for Unchained, a movie about a man in maximum security prison who is torn between being on his best behavior in order to potentially shorten his sentence or escaping from prison in order to reunite with his beloved wife. The first version of the song was performed by Todd Duncan, who also had a role in the film. The song was a modest hit at the time. Meanwhile, in 1965, the Righteous Brothers had just negotiated a deal to release music on Phil Spector's Phillies record label. Spector was known for putting more unconventional songs that weren't made for radio on the B-side of singles, and he decided to have the duo record their own spin on "Unchained Melody." When the song was released in 1965, it entered the charts at No. 72 before quickly climbing up to the No. 4 spot within a few weeks. In 1990, the song appeared in the movie Ghost and once again became popular.

Isaiah Washington says he’s calling it quits on his acting career. The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star posted that past criticism of his character played a part in his decision. Quote: “it seems that the haters, provocateurs and the Useful Idiots have won.” Washington was fired from his role as ‘Preston Burke’ in 2007 after making anti-gay remarks to his costar T.R. Knight on set and repeating them at the Golden Globe Awards that year. He later apologized. His upcoming film “Corsicana” will be his final onscreen performance.

Rachael Ray won’t be on your TV much longer — at least when it comes to her daytime show. CBS has announced the celebrity chef is moving on from her daily series “Rachael Ray” after 17 years, but teased some new projects around the corner for Free Food Studios, her new media company. However, she notes she is moving on from the syndicated talk show game. No series finale date has yet been revealed.

The NFL has announced that the 2023/24 season will kick off on September 7th.

I love the sounds of this, but I’m not sure how practical it is. A self-employed TikTok creator has gone viral for doing what she calls “Bare Minimum Mondays.” Marisa Jo Mayes, who posts under the name “itsmarisajo”, says that even after quitting her corporate job in favor of self-employment, she still suffered from the “Sunday scaries”, and felt paralyzing pressure as a result. So, she gave herself permission to do the absolute bare minimum for work on Mondays. She feels since making the decision a year ago, she feels better, is never overwhelmed, and actually gets more done than she expected. On Bare Minimum Mondays, she doesn’t accept meetings, and makes it a point to take things slow for the first 2 hours – by reading, journaling, or looking after some chores around the house. After that, she does an hour of creative work, wrapping her day with “a few hours” of work after lunch. Mayes said it helps to “start the week prioritizing yourself as a person over yourself as an employee.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/428n8bma

A Danish company wants to save you the trouble of getting out of your car when it’s time to fill up. Startup Autofuel has developed a robotic arm capable of refueling a variety of vehicles at gas stations without any kind of human assistance. It is using a gas station in Finland as a pilot site, currently the only place in the world where you can have your car refueled by a robot. The futuristic refueling system uses a robotic arm that can locate a car’s fuel tank door, select the right type of fuel, and operate the pump. It has been in testing for over a year, and although it may be a while before refueling robots become mainstream, Autofuel believes they will become invaluable when truly autonomous vehicles finally hit the roads.
