Researchers in South Korea have uncovered a surprising connection between a woman’s hair length and her…uh…love life. The hair-raising study, published in the academic journal Evolutionary Psychology, determined that women with long hair are seen as more attractive to men, and, perhaps logically, they also have more sex. In the conclusion of their study of 204 married heterosexual couples, the researchers said their findings indicate “that women’s hair may, indeed, work to convey an evolutionary message to the opposite sex.” No correlation was found between a man’s mane and his sex life.

Rebel Wilson is naming names when it comes to people trying to block her upcoming memoir …or at least one name. She says Sacha Baron Cohen is the “a-hole” trying to prevent it. Last week, Wilson posted a video explaining her “no-a-holes policy” for any projects she takes on, alluding to one person in particular. In the caption, she indicated she would name that person in her upcoming memoir, “Rebel Rising.” Later, Wilson wrote that now that person “is trying to threaten me”, and “stop press coming out about my book.” Later, she wrote: “The ‘a-hole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen.” The 2 starred together in the 2016 comedy “The Brothers Grimsby.” A rep for Cohen called her statements: “demonstrably false”.

The Joker’ and ‘Harley Quinn’ are set to serenade audiences in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” but if, and how many of original songs will be included in the film, is still a mystery. Insiders with access to early versions of Todd Phillips’ eagerly awaited sequel to “Joker” say the movie leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical,” as it integrates at last 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs. One is said to be ‘That’s Entertainment’ from the 1953 musical “The Band Wagon,” associated with Judy Garland. However, there is also the possibility of an original song or two. Warner Bros declined to comment.

A sequel to classic Adam Sandler comedy “Happy Gilmore” may be in the making. A first draft of the script has been written, says Christopher McDonald, who played ‘Shooter McGavin’ in the original 1996 film. In a radio interview, McDonald said: “I saw Adam about 2 weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this…and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.” Sources say the project will be for Netflix, where Sandler has long had a deal, though the streamer is declining comment.

We already know that Taylor Swift’s fanbase often display levels of devotion that border on obsession. But new research has found that Swifties really are a force of nature. Scientists from the Seismological Society of America and Caltech report that it was the dancing and jumping motions of the audience at SoFi Stadium during an August Taylor Swift concert that produced distinct harmonic tremors during the show. Previously, researchers speculated that the seismic activity may have originated from reverberations of the sound system. But the new study concluded that it was actually crowd movement that was responsible. Songs varied significantly in terms of seismic activity, with ‘Shake It Off’ recording the strongest tremor, equivalent to a magnitude 2 earthquake.

When it comes to beating stress, dogs are great. Husbands? Not so much. Here’s the breakdown:

A new study from South Korea found that spending time with dogs can help reduce stress and improve concentration. Researchers determined that activities like playing with and walking dogs increased relaxation, while tasks like grooming boosted concentration. As far as mood, study participants also reported feeling less tired, sad and stressed after interacting with the dogs. Meanwhile…

A study published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine looked at data from more than 2,000 elderly couples to see how stress affected the pair’s health over time. Researchers found that women tended to display more negative physiological markers of stress than their male partners, suggesting that women’s health may be more affected by their partner’s stress levels in long-term relationships.

Teenagers have been scientifically confirmed to smell like…cheese and urine. Scientists in Germany have classified the chemical compounds that make us smell differently throughout our lives, starting with the ones that cause babies to smell like flowers, soap, and violet. But it’s all downhill from there: Puberty leads to the heightened presence of certain compounds that cause teenagers to give off scents of sweat, urine, sandalwood, cheese, goat, and wax (pretty much a typical locker room). The researchers got these results by sewing cotton pads into kids’ and teens’ pajama armpits, extracting the chemical compounds from the pads in the morning, and then having a trained smeller identify the scents.

Novo Nordisk says the pill, called Amycretin, works similarly to weight loss injections, mimicking a natural hormone, which slows down the passage of food through the stomach, making people feel full for longer. In addition, it stimulates a hormone called amylin, which also reduces hunger and slows stomach emptying. Early trials showed that people lost 13% of their weight over 3 months — more than twice the amount seen with Ozempic and Wegovy, the company claims.

THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

This afternoon I had something weird happen. I will give a quick back story first. I started dating someone a year ago, but it didn't work out, which is fine. We only went on a few dates and we got along fine, but we could tell it was not meant to be, so we broke up. Today, as I was getting into my car, I saw her pull up at my house. I was very confused, then my roommate got out of the passenger side of her car. And the two of them were holding hands as they walked up the sidewalk to our house. I sent him a message to make sure it was the same person. He said it was her. They met when we were dating a year ago, but didn't start dating until a few weeks ago. Does this seem awkward? I get it... we didn't click. But now she's dating my roommate. A guy who she met when she was at my house while dating me. I'm OK with that, but don't you think he should have said something? I think it was really weird for me to find out this way! Am I being a little oversensitive about this? It's not like she's my ex-wife. But it seems odd to me!

Signed

A study says that married couples communicate with each other in much the same way that we talk to babies or dogs. Researchers from the University of Hungary recruited 46 couples with a dog and an infant, and studied their facial expressions and emotions while talking to their partner, child, and dog. They found that couples tend to talk to each other in “motherese,” basically “baby talk,” and use exaggerated facial expressions, just like you might when speaking to a baby. The study found that people talking to their dog exhibited similarly pronounced facial muscle movements as they would while reading a nursery rhyme to their child. The study author said that the similarities in how people speak to their baby, dog, and each other “could stem from the emotional closeness and bonding and help create a sincere and focused atmosphere when they talk.”

While everyone can relate to feeling angry or annoyed sometimes, researchers from Ohio State University found that that it’s actually a bad idea to “vent” about your personal problems. Why? Their study determined that screaming about the stuff that makes you mad is unlikely to result in a calmer state of mind. Instead, they recommend using various techniques to help fight stress and anger, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or counting to 10. The researchers found that all of these approaches to calming down are more effective than venting and ranting. And by the way, jogging was found to make anger worse.

Downton Abbey” is getting a “final” chapter, according to Imelda Staunton. The actress, who played Queen Mary’s lady-in-waiting ‘Lady Maud Bagshaw’ in the first 2 films, confirmed reports that a third movie is in the works, telling BBC Radio 2: “There will be the final film – there you go.” Staunton’s comments followed a report by The Sun that claimed the third movie will film at Highclere Castle over the summer and premiere next year. It also indicated that Paul Giamatti could reprise his role as ‘Harold Levinson’, the brother of the Countess of Grantham, after he appeared in the 2013 Christmas special.

Margot Robbie is reportedly set to produce “The Sims” movie. She runs LuckyChap Entertainment with her husband Tom Acklery, and following the success of the summer smash “Barbie”, in which Robbie also starred, her company will now oversee the production of the upcoming movie based on the hit video game. An upstate New York man was forced to say “see you later, alligator” to his unusual pet after authorities seized the 11-foot (3.4m), 750-pound (340kg) gator from his Hamburg NY home. Police said: “The owner of the home had built an addition to his house and installed an in-ground swimming pool for his roughly 30-year-old alligator, and allegedly allowed members of the public to get into the water to pet the unsecured alligator,” including children. The owner’s license to keep the alligator expired in 2021, and cops took action after learning the “extent at which the owner was seriously endangering the public,” according to a statement. The gator, named Albert, is now being cared for by a “licensed caretaker”.

FAMOUS BRANDS THAT USED TO SELL SOMETHING ELSE:

Lamborghini Started Out Making Tractors: At some point, a beef with Enzo Ferrari led to the company making sports cars, but it still makes tractors to this day.

Shell used to literally sell shells: In the 1800s, antique dealer Marcus Samuel expanded his business by selling exotic seashells. This required a large import/export infrastructure. When he died, his sons took over and developed an interest in importing and exporting oil.

Avon used to sell books: In the 1800s, founder David McConnell was a door-to-door book salesman. To get his foot in the door, he offered women a free vial of perfume that he made himself. It turned out that his perfume was much more popular than the books…

Mazda made corks: The company was founded in 1920 as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co in Japan. After about a decade, the company did a complete 180 and got into manufacturing vehicles.

Samsung was basically a general store: Founded as Samsung Sanghoe in 1938, it sold dried fish, noodles and other groceries. By the 1950s, the company was branching out into insurance, construction, and even a theme park. But electronics turned out to be their big money maker.

Taco Bell was originally a hot dog stand: In 1948, Glen Bell ran Bell’s Drive-In, selling hot dogs and burgers. But he noticed the popularity of the café across the street, which sold tacos. He got friendly with staff there, learned their recipes, and opened his first taco stand in 1951.

Play Doh Started as Wallpaper Cleaner: The company was a struggling soap manufacturer that started making wallpaper cleaner, at a time when coal soot was an issue inside people’s homes. A relative of one of the owners had a daycare and gave some of the wallpaper cleaner to the kids to play with — and they loved it. The formula was adjusted by adding color and a scent — and Play Doh was born.

Louis Vuitton was a Box Maker: 13-year-old Louis worked as a packer, making fancy custom boxes for various goods. He was so skilled, he was hired by Napoleon’s wife, and eventually developed a line of travel trunks. His family carried on in the business, expanding to all kinds of high-end, elegant products.

Nintendo Made Playing Cards: The company predates not just video games but even electricity, in most homes. They started way back in 1889 in Kyoto, Japan as a playing card business.

NASCAR started as a group of bootleggers: The largest stock car racing organization in the world has roots in an era when drivers ran bootleg whiskey in the US. They typically used small, fast vehicles to evade police. Many drivers would modify their cars for speed, handling, and increased cargo capacity.

In a world of skyrocketing tuition and a changing job market, is it still worth it to go to college or university? Definitely, according to new data. Researchers from New York University and Rutgers University evaluated the economic returns of pursuing higher education. They compared the lifetime earnings of almost 6 million people, some of whom hold a bachelor’s degree, some with only a high school diploma. They discovered a big financial advantage for college grads, with an estimated annual return on investment (ROI) of 9.88% for women and 9.06% for men. That represents the average yearly financial gain one can expect from their degree over the course of their career, compared to the costs of college education. As the researchers pointed out: “On average, a college degree offers better returns than the stock market.” They determined that fields such as engineering and computer science boasted the highest financial rewards, boosting median returns to more than 13%.

Popeye’ is sailing back to the big screen. The iconic spinach-eater, who first appeared in comic strips in the 1920s, will be the subject of a new big-budget feature film, currently in development. This is the first live-action revisiting of the character since the 1980 film “Popeye,” led by Robin Willians. Directed by Robert Altman and co-starring Shelley Duvall as the quirky love interest ‘Olive Oyl’, the film was panned upon release but has since gained cult status and critical reconsideration.
