A motorcyclist who authorities say was wanted for speeding, reckless driving, and possible DUI was apparently taken into custody in Pasadena Monday following a wild pursuit through the San Gabriel Valley that included a stop for gas. The motorcycle rider — who could be seen wearing a sweatshirt that read, “I Don’t Stop 4 Cops” — was traveling at high speeds on surface streets when Sky5 first got over the chase in West Covina around noon, aerial video showed. It was unclear when exactly the pursuit began, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KTLA the motorcyclist was being sought for reckless driving and possible DUI, while a California Highway Patrol official said the initial want was speeding. Around 11:10 a.m., law enforcement stopped chasing the motorcycle on the ground because the vehicle was going around 80 mph. Around 12:10 p.m., the rider stopped at a gas station in Baldwin Park, grabbed the nozzle from a motorist and proceeded to put some gasoline into the tank, according to the aerial footage. By 12:30 p.m., the motorcyclist was in the Pasadena area and apparently entered a parking structure, where the pursuit ended. More than a half-dozen patrol vehicles could be seen surrounding the garage as officers searched for the rider. One person was taken into custody a short time later. (https://bit.ly/3w5RELc)

The man who wrote Dracula never visited Transylvania. Bram Stoker was an Irish author who is now best remembered for his gothic horror novel Dracula. Partially set in Transylvania, a mountainous region in central Romania, the story cemented the legend of the vampire in mainstream European and American culture. Despite Stoker's many world travels, he never visited Eastern Europe—and, by virtue, Transylvania—at all.

A Texas woman was arrested for allegedly shooting a nail salon owner during an argument over prices. 21-year-old Joana Vara and her 20-year-old sister Quetzali Vara got into a feud with the male owner of the Harris County business on May 29th after they got manicures and pedicures. Joana paid for the services, left the store, then returned and shot the man as he tried to force her back outside. The siblings fled the scene in Ford Fusion. The victim was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Authorities said that last Thursday, Joana was busted and charged with aggravated assault. Quetzali was also arrested the same day, though not in connection to the nail salon assault. The report said that she was charged with evading arrest during a traffic stop. (https://bit.ly/3w3hakg)

An explosive device set off at a gender-reveal party sparked a wildfire in Canada. The device was only supposed to release blue or pink powder to identify the baby’s sex when it was detonated in Alberta, about six miles west of Fort McMurray on May 31st. It instead caused an inferno, which grew to about an acre before it was extinguished. Travis Fairweather, an Alberta Wildfire spokesman, said the individuals responsible were fined $600 and could also be forced to pay the costs of fighting the fire. “While fireworks and exploding targets can be fun, they can also come with a hefty price tag if you inadvertently start a wildfire,” Fairweather said. Under local forestry laws, permission is required to use fireworks or exploding target. It’s not the first time that a gender-reveal announcement has had dangerous consequences. In September, a group of relatives set off a pyrotechnic device to reveal an unborn baby’s gender and caused a massive wildfire in El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa, California. The inferno spread to more than 10,500 acres and forced people to evacuate their homes. (https://bit.ly/3z8FSBH)

After causing a disturbance at the drive-thru window, a McDonald’s customer broke the window and crawled through the opening into the restaurant, where he attacked a female manager. Investigators allege that 33-year-old My-chael Jordan was asked to leave the premises of the Pinellas Park eatery around 4:00 a.m. Sunday following a flap at the 24-hour drive-thru. But instead of departing McDonald’s, Jordan, who lives two miles from the restaurant, “broke the drive-thru window, crawled in through the window and grabbed and pushed” the 53-year-old employee. When cops subsequently confronted Jordan, he allegedly fought with three officers and was “tased multiple times with no effect.” “All three officers suffered scrapes and cuts” during the struggle with Jordan, who allegedly spit on the Pinellas Park Police Department cops. Police noted that Jordan showed an “indication of drug influence.” Jordan was arrested and charged with four felonies: burglary with assault or battery and three counts of resisting police with violence. He is locked up in lieu of $155,000 bond. (https://bit.ly/3idQcCg)

A mayoral hopeful in Albuquerque was punched at a campaign event by a man who was also accused of flying a drone adorned with a dildo around the candidate while he was on stage. It’s the second time the “Dongcopter” — complete with its own Twitter account — has harassed a New Mexico politician in recent days. Bernalillo County Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III, who was not injured, brushed off the brazen Tuesday night stunt as the work of “political operatives.” The incident, which was partially captured on video, happened as about seventy people gathered to hear the Democrat speak at the Revel Entertainment Center. The venue’s owner confiscated a drone attached to a sex toy that was flying over the stage while the candidate spoke, and 20-year-old Kaelan Ashby Dreyer tried to get it back. A scuffle ensued and Dreyer threw a punch at the sheriff’s arm while reportedly yelling “he’s a tyrant.” The suspect was arrested on charges of petty misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. A Texas man has been fired from his job as the chief of technology and innovation for a local school district after he was caught selling district-owned iPads. According to News 4 San Antonio, the official was caught when a local family answered a Facebook Marketplace ad and purchased multiple iPads from him in a transaction that entailed meeting him in a parking lot. Once the family's mother realized the iPads were "a type marketed to schools," she searched the man's name and discovered he worked for the school district. She notified the TV station, which discovered a video of a school board meeting in which the same man had recommended that the district spend $483,000 on iPads and other equipment. That’s a lot of marijuana! Cops in Georgia arrested four people who tried to carry off 174 pounds of marijuana stuffed into suitcases at an airport in Atlanta. Drug-sniffing dogs zeroed in on the suspicious suitcases following a flight from Seattle which landed at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Transporting marijuana over states lines is still illegal in most instances, even as individual states rapidly decriminalize and legalize weed. Sergeant John Chafee of the Atlanta police said all four suspects claimed someone else had packed the bags, or that they were picking up the suitcase for someone else. 47-year-old Nicole Golden of Columbia, S.C., was found with 22 pounds of pot and was charged with trafficking marijuana. 29-year-old Naly Tong and 33-year-old Keomanyvanh Tong allegedly had a total of 89-pounds of pot between the two of them. Each is accused of retrieving one suitcase from baggage claim. Pot was also found in other bags they had with them. 32-year-old Jarvis Sheppard was nabbed after retrieving two bags from baggage claim, police said, found in possession of 63 pounds of marijuana and charged with trafficking the drug. A total of seven suitcases were confiscated.(https://bit.ly/3v1iGBP)

Babies are physical anomalies. Babies, particularly newborns, are surprisingly different from the children they'll grow up to be. When they're born, their heads account for a quarter of their full body weight, and the size of their brains will double in the first year of life. Babies have 300 bones and around 10,000 tastebuds all over their mouth. Some of the bones will fuse as they age (into 206, as an adult), but the tastebuds not on the tongue will eventually vanish.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, TSA officers observed a loaded .45 handgun within a passenger’s carry-on bag at the main security checkpoint around 10:59 am. DiCicco is being charged with multiple weapons violations and the firearm is in police possession. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. A man and a young partner-in-crime are being accused of stealing large amounts of pop tarts, milk, cheese sticks, apple sauce, and other items from an elementary school in Catawba County. According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Jacob Gherret Hamrick and a juvenile accomplice have been identified after breaking into Blackburn Elementary School. This break-in was discovered by school administrators around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say it appears these suspects entered the school through an unsecured door. Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division located Hamrick and almost all of the items stolen from the school during a canvass of area residences. Officials say the motivation for these crimes appears to be opportunity as opposed to a need for food or drink. Among the stolen items recovered were 89 packages of pop tarts, 38 cartons of milk, 42 packages of cheese sticks, 11 containers of strawberry apple sauce, two cartons of orange juice, and six compound bows used by the school’s archery program. Hamrick has been arrested and charged with breaking or entering and larceny. He received a $1,000 unsecured bond. For 100 years, maps have shown an island that doesn't exist. Almost nothing is known about Sandy Island, a land mass about the size of Manhattan in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Australia. Supposedly, explorer James Cook discovered it in 1774, and it began appearing on nautical maps in 1908. It wasn't until 2012, when a team of Australian scientists set out to survey the island, that they discovered there was no island there at all. The scientists guessed that Cook may have in fact spotted a "pumice raft" of floating volcanic stone and gas. The Sydney Morning Herald even published an obituary for Sandy Island.

A Texas mom was arrested for allegedly posing as her 13-year-old daughter for nearly a whole day of middle school. 30-year-old Casey Garcia allegedly slipped into the unnamed school in San Elizario dressed as the teen — complete with a hoodie, backpack, and face mask — to prove a point about lax security, according to YouTube videos she posted. During the bizarre stunt, nobody noticed she wasn’t her daughter, Julie, until seventh period at the end of the school day, Garcia said in the videos, which were first reported by Insider. “I’ve been here all day, face to face with teachers,” she said in one of the videos. “Do I look like a seventh-grader? No? Cool. Awesome.” Footage shows her strolling through a school hallway in high-top sneakers — at one point greeting the principal, who appears to have no idea she’s a grown woman. A 26-year-old man was removed from an American Airlines flight by authorities in Chicago on Sunday after causing a “disturbance.” A Chicago Police Department spokesperson told Fox News that the man was detained until the plane, which was traveling from Portland, Maine, landed at O’Hare International Airport. A spokesperson for American Airlines confirmed to Fox News that police were requested to meet Flight 3297 at O’Hare due to a “disruptive passenger.” Chicago police told Fox News that the man was released and that no citations were issued. The flight landed safely, with no injuries reported among its 75 passengers and four crew members. An initial tweet by Windy City Weather and News claimed the passenger was banging on the plane’s cockpit door trying to enter, though American Airlines says the report is “untrue.” The incident comes just days after a Delta flight heading from Los Angeles to Nashville was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday after a male passenger allegedly attempted to hijack the plane.
