THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

My Sister and My Wife Hate Each Other And I'm Caught In The Middle. I have a beautiful wife who loves to serve others. We bought a home down the street from my family. And I have a sweet sister who likes to crash at our house with her friends. My wife was pretty easygoing until recently. My sister's friends have been leaving a mess — mostly towels on the floor after using our pool. My wife is upset about cleaning up after them every day. I've asked my sister to make sure the house is clean when they leave and it has been better. Then my wife complained that some of her perfume and personal items had gone missing. My sister said it was not her. I believe my sister. I just don’t see her doing that. I told my wife and we agreed to just replace them. Then last week my wife made a couple of pans of cinnamon rolls from scratch. One pan was for us, the second pan was for a co-worker's family who is experiencing a tragedy. My wife went to the gym. I went to work. And my sister and her friends came by. The one pan wasn’t enough for her and her friends. They wanted the second pan of cinnamon rolls and my sister texted my wife asking if they could eat them. My wife said no. They ate them anyway. My wife, upset, went and bought new locks. When I came home, my wife handed me a new key and told me that she didn’t want anyone else to have a key to our house. I tried to calm her down and tell her that I would just go replace the cinnamon rolls but she wouldn't have it. Then, my mom called and asked if my sister could use the house for a party. I was under the impression my mom would be there. I said yes. So I hid a key and left it for them. My mom didn’t come with my sister. When my wife got home after the party, it was a mess. She sent me photos. She called me a jerk for letting them in without talking to her about it. Then she told me I broke her trust, that she felt she wasn’t safe in her own home because she kept getting robbed and I refused to put an end to it. Then my wife went to stay with a friend. I feel like I have tried to right any wrongs that have happened between my wife and my sister. She shows no signs of coming back. What do I do?

Well, I didn’t expect THIS: Scientists say they’ve found a link between living in warmer climates and poorer eyesight. University of Toronto researchers say their study suggests that older adults living in warmer climates have an up to 44% higher risk of serious vision impairment than their peers living in cooler regions. And that’s true, regardless of study participants’ gender, income, and education level. What’s especially worrying, the scientists say, is that with climate change, the prevalence of vision impairment among older adults could very well increase in the future.

In the battle of the bomb vs. the bombshell… why not both? Lots of moviegoers are making the decision to watch Christopher Nolan’s atomic drama “Oppenheimer” and Greta Gerwig’s colorful romp “Barbie” on the same day, when both movies hit theaters on July 21. With 2 weeks to go, AMC Theatres, the world’s largest cinema chain, says that more than 20,000 AMC Stubs members have purchased tickets to see “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” on the same day. Recently, Tom Cruise announced his plan to see both on opening weekend, but not on the same day.

Barbie” director Greta Gerwig has a good reason why she chose not to use CGI on Margot Robbie’s feet. Robbie had the internet talking after stepping out of her high heels and still having an arched foot in the trailer. The pair recently appeared on Australian TV, and the subject of Robbie’s feet came. Gerwig said: “There was a big discussion at the beginning… Everyone said, ‘Are you going to CGI all the feet?’ And I thought…That’s terrifying! No, that’s a nightmare.’ And [Margot] has the nicest feet. She has these beautiful dancer feet.’” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mu6xv4p3

The “Barbie” movie will be released in The Philippines, following a review by the country’s film censors. Last week, the film was banned in Vietnam over its inclusion of a scene with a map alleged to show the ‘nine dash line’ by which China lays claim to nearly all of the South China Sea. Vietnam says that China’s claims violate its sovereignty and that films and TV shows must not show the map. The Phillipine review committee determined that “the contentious scene does not depict the ‘nine-dash line,” but instead shows “the route of the make-believe journey of Barbie”.

Pinterest is seeing a huge ‘Barbie boom’ ahead of the hotly-anticipated film’s release , as fans look to live a life of plastic, just like the iconic doll. A spokesperson says people on the site have been hunting for ideas to “Barbify” their lives, as the movie premiere gets closer. “Barbiecore” searches have increased by 980%, while “Barbie mood board” is seeing a 1,290% bump. Pinterest data shows a steep rise from May 2022 to May 2023 — “Barbie live-action” is up 1,305%, “Barbie Margot Robbie” is up 1,630%, and “hot pink chrome nails,” pulled from Barbie’s color palette, is up 1,465%.

Sofia Vergara is still the highest paid actress in the world, thanks to “America’s Got Talent” and her many endorsement deals.

Just so you know, the title of “world’s largest gas station” now belongs to the 74,000-square foot “Buc-ee’s” in Tennessee – and it is a place where 120 vehicles can fill up – at once. Buc-ee’s, operates dozens of gas stations, but none as big as the one near Sevierville, Tennessee just off the I-40, which opened last month. This newest addition to the chain features a massive shopping center, a full barbecue restaurant, spacious bathrooms, and a massive rest area – plus those 120 gas pumps. And what’s more…believe it or not, 18-wheelers are banned from the premises, to make it a safer space for small vehicle drivers and pedestrians. Sure, it’s the largest gas station in the world right now, but not for long. The company has already started working on a 75,000-square-foot gas station in Luling, Texas. WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

Burger King Thailand is offering up an interesting new burger... and while it is meatless, it’s not meatless in the way you may have come to expect. This week, the fast-food chain introduced what it calls the “Real Cheeseburger.” It’s a bun filled with as many as 20 slices of cheese…and, you got it, NO MEAT. The item launched on Thai menus Sunday, priced at about one-third of what a usual burger sells for. It quickly went viral, with many posting TikTok videos of them trying the new sandwich. In a social media post, Burger King said: “This is no joke. This is for real.” One sampler, a 25-year-old IT engineer, said she loved cheese but “this was a bit too much.” Another customer said the taste of the Real Cheeseburger was “too intense”…which sounds pretty good to me!

QUESTIONABLE LIFE HACKS: (Continued tomorrow)

We’re not saying they’re ethical, but you have to admit they’re genius…

When meeting someone, text and tell them you are twice as far away from them as you actually are, and are willing to meet halfway…like, about a block away from where you actually are.

Trespass while wearing an orange safety jacket. Nobody questions an orange safety jacket (Carry a clipboard, too – just in case…)

To dominate someone in a conversation, stare at the other person’s forehead questioningly.

Keep a McDonald’s cup in your car at all times. When thirsty, just walk in to a McD’s and get a refill.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Brought to you by InsuranceChicken.com

If you have a favorite quote.... you can send it to us at the bottom of the page at JohnAndHeidiShow.com

It seems I have spent a lifetime of mouthing mechanically, ‘Say thank you. Sit up straight. Use your napkin. Close your mouth when you chew. Don’t lean back in your chair.’ Just when I finally got my husband squared away, the kids came along.” —Erma Bombeck
