Researchers from the University of Basel and the Technical University of Munich are challenging previous assumptions about the impact on sleep of blue light emanating from our devices. Their findings are that the color of light might not significantly affect the human internal clock and sleep quality, contradicting prior research. The study results also cast doubt upon the common practice of using night mode on smartphones and tablets. Night mode often involves a yellowish color adjustment, which according to these study results, would be irrelevant.

A contractor working on a remodeling job in Seattle made a surprising discovery inside the wall: a hand grenade. Vadim Kharkhavyy, owner of Polar Bear Construction, said he tore out the tub in the 3rd-floor bathroom of the home, revealing a hidden compartment in the wall and what appeared to be a grenade. Although his first thought was to “get out of there”, he soon returned and captured video, which he posted to his company’s TikTok account. The Seattle Police Department’s bomb squad confirmed the object was a grenade, but it was inert. Kharkavyy said they told him that sometimes WWII veterans came home with “souvenirs”, which they tended to store away, and forget about. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/5evpzev2

The box office has officially entered the January doldrums. The weekend’s only new wide opener, the outer space thriller “I.S.S.,” failed to make impact, with a $1.2 million opening day, and an estimated weekend haul of $3.3 million. “Mean Girls” continues its reign as queen bee of the box office, earning a projected $11 million. In second place, “The Beekeeper” combed together about $8.4 million over the weekend, and in third place was “Wonka”, with an estimated $6.7 million in its sixth weekend of release.

Sofia Vergara and Netflix have been hit by a lawsuit by Griselda Blanco’s estate over the upcoming series “Griselda.” The suit seeks a court injunction to block the release of the miniseries, which is scheduled to premiere this Thursday, due to alleged unauthorized use of the family’s image and likeness. The series, which stars Vergara, follows the infamous cartel leader known as “the Godmother” as she rises through drug trafficking ranks in 1980s Miami. Vergara also serves as an executive producer.

It’s time for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, which aims to (dis)honor the worst in film over the past year, has announced nominations for its 44th edition. The most-nominated film is “Expend4bles,” the 4th entry in the action-packed, but critically underwhelming, “The Expendables” franchise. It received 7 nominations. Tied for second place with 5 noms are “The Exorcist: Believer,” and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a blood-soaked take on everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear. Two superhero movies, DC’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” received 4 nominations. The (ahem) winners are expected to be announced March 9.

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com

Supporters of a hockey team in Hershey PA came out in full force to break a world record. Every year, fans gather for the Hershey Bears Teddy Bear Toss, where they throw stuffed animals down to the ice. The plush toys are then donated to local charities. Early this month, the toss took place during the Bears’ match against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and after a Bears player scored in the second period, stuffed animals began to rain down. Bears Captain Dylan McIlrath said it was “incredible” to see. The Bears announced that for 2024, a world record 74,599 stuffed animals were tossed. Since the first event in 2001, nearly 390,000 stuffed animals have been collected.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

An advertising agency is being accused by former employees of moving its offices to a remote mountain area to force them to quit and avoid paying them compensation. In what is being called one of the most extreme tactics to convince employees to resign, the business, based in downtown Xi’an City, China, allegedly moved its offices to a rural mountain area with very limited transport options. A staff member who says he is one of many who was forced to quit due to the new location said the company notified them that they would have to travel to a new location in the Qinling Mountains, which required a 2-hour commute (one way) for those with a car, and travel via bus also required a 3km walk through mountainous pathways. Also, the nearest toilet is in a neighboring village.
