This could change how we all come to a conclusion on 50-50 propositions…not to mention how football games are started. University of Amsterdam have found that when flipping a coin, the chances of heads or tails coming up are not exactly 50-50. The team analyzed the results of 350,757 coin flips using 46 currencies, and found that coins had a 50.8% chance of landing on the same side they started from. In their conclusion, the researchers pointed out: “If you bet a dollar on the outcome of a coin toss, and repeat the bet 1,000 times, knowing the starting position of the coin toss would earn you 19 dollars on average, which is better than the casino advantage for 6-deck blackjack against an optimal-strategy player.”

On
an island off the coast of a Scotland, a local grocer’s boo-boo
turned into a national charity event. Dan Dafydd wanted 80 chocolate
Easter eggs to sell in his shop on one of the Orkney Islands, but
accidentally ordered 80 CASES, for the total island population of
500. Wondering what he was going to do with all those Easter eggs, he
decided to raffle off groups of 100, with proceeds going to the Royal
National Lifeboat Institution, which rescues dozens of people and
vessels every year. The international media picked up on it, and it
proved to be such a big hit that, in the ultimate irony, Dafydd had
to order more chocolate eggs, because he ran out. What’s more,
manufacturer Nestlé contacted Mr. Dafydd with the proposal that they
would match any donations received up to £10,000, with the aim of
raising £20,000 (US$25,300).

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” easily held on to #1 at the box office. Industry estimates have the film earning just under $32 million domestically in its second weekend, following its $80 million opening weekend. Elsewhere, a pair of newcomers showed mixed results: “Monkey Man” came in second with an estimated $10.1 million, and “First Omen,” a prequel to the classic 1976 horror film, opened to an estimated $8.4 million.
Kristen Wiig received a star-studded reception when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the 5th time, allowing her to join the elite “Five-Timers Club.” After welcoming the SNL band, the “Bridesmaids” star said: “As a former cast member, it is very special being a 5-timer.” She was interrupted by Paul Rudd who asked if he could be part of the sketch where she gets her jacket. Wiig explained that they weren’t actually doing that, but then Paula Pell chimed in, saying she used to be a writer, and that the 5-timers club isn’t actually a big deal, and Lorne Michaels gives out the commemorative jackets “out to everybody like free maxi pads.” Proving her point, Matt Damon appeared, wearing a jacket. Although he has only hosted twice, he said Michaels told him that his first time was so good, it counted for 3, and the second counted for 2. At that point, Wiig needed to ask Michaels directly. As the camera panned to him, he was flanked by Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Martin Short and Jon Hamm — none of whom have hosted 5 times…but all wearing jackets. In the end, next week’s host Ryan Gosling appeared on stage in a 5-timers jacket, before finally giving Wiig her own.

A study says 33 is the happiest age.
Can you imagine the joy of seeing your beloved pet dog that went missing 7 months ago? In March, dog dad Mehrad Houman miraculously received word that Mishka had been found. What was puzzling, though, is how Mishka the dog ended up 2,300 miles (3,700km) away from her home in San Diego. Last month, a resident of Harper Woods, Michigan called police about a stray dog. Luckily, Mishka was microchipped and a local shelter identified her owners. Even luckier, Houman and his family happened to be visiting Minneapolis for Easter at the time, so he made 10-hour drive to pick up his beloved pet. The shelter that helped with the reunion posted a video on Facebook showing the dog’s tail-wagging reunion with family. The strangest part? Someone taught Mishka to sit while she was away. Last week, 7-Eleven announced it has teamed up with Miracle Seltzer on 4 new sparking seltzer drinks. The first 3 flavors — Lemon Lime, Green Apple, and Sweet Orange — are what you would expect…but the 4th is…hot dog water flavor (Ugh…). That’s right, it supposedly tastes like the water from boiled hot dogs, complete with mustard and ketchup. The company explained: “Gone are the days of alternating bites of a hot dog with sips of a beverage, because now those on the go can swap the bun for bubbles.” The convenience store chain says more details will be released today, leading some to believe it’s just an April Fools Day prank…and others to hope it’s true. One commenter wrote: “Will be drinking it next to that macaroni n cheese scented candle.”
