While many researchers are encouraging us to find more sustainable plant-based foods to eat, a new study has some surprising dietary advice — eat snakes! An international team examining the landscapes of Thailand and Vietnam found that there’s potential for python farming to become a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional livestock used for meat. The research, published in the journal Scientific Reports, found that python farming, which is a thing in Asia, might someday be the solution to food insecurity around the world.

MacKenzie Scott, the billionaire philanthropist (and Jeff Bezos’ ex) had promised to give $1 million to 250 organizations last year through an “open call” for applications. Last week, she announced she would instead give $640 million to 361 organizations. That makes her organization Yield Giving’s first round of donations more than double what Scott had initially pledged, in response to applications from nonprofits. In a brief on her website, Scott thanked Lever for Change, the organization that managed the “open call” for donations. Lever For Change said that the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount “in light of the incredible work of these organizations.” Scott began giving away billions in 2019.

Warner Bros. is doubling down on the business of TimothĂ©e Chalamet. The studio signed a multi-year feature film deal with the actor to collaborate on future projects as a star and producer. Chalamet led back-to-back box office hits: Last December’s “Wonka” ($632 million globally) and this month’s “Dune: Part Two” ($575 million globally and counting). The studio says he is the first actor in 4 decades to star in the top 2 domestic films that were released in 8 months. Now, he’ll enjoy a salary of over $10 million per film, after earning about $8 million for “Wonka”, sources say.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed he had a pacemaker implanted. The actor and former California governor, who is 76, announced on his podcast that he’s recovering from the procedure after previously having 3 open-heart surgeries. He said he’s “doing great” after having surgery on a Monday, and, as he out it, “by Friday, I was already at a big environmental event with my friend and fellow fitness crusader Jane Fonda.”

If you’re a stomach-sleeper, this is important: Experts are warning that those who sleep front-side down are a lot more prone to a number of health issues. One of the biggest complaints of stomach-sleepers is lower-back pain. And Dr. Tony Nalda from the UK’s Scoliosis Reduction Center warns that if you already suffer from neck or back problems, sleeping in this position “is guaranteed to make them worse.” Stomach-sleeping can also make it more difficult to breathe deeply, because the position compresses your diaphragm, the doctor says. He also warns it can put stress on your heart, through the pressure on your chest, which makes it harder for blood to circulate. This could lead to cardiac issues over time, including higher blood pressure, especially if you already have problems there. The front-sleeping position has also taken the blame for migraines, pinched nerves and other neurological issues, as a result of sleeping with a twisted neck. In addition, you may already be aware that sleeping on your stomach can lead to more facial wrinkles, because of the way it causes your face to compress on the pillow.

A team of Belgian researchers say they are getting close to using artificial intelligence to develop some of the best-tasting beer, ever. They used machine learning algorithms to analyze a vast dataset of beer recipes, chemical compositions, and flavor profiles. The idea was to create a model that can predict how different aroma compounds contribute to a beer’s taste and overall consumer appeal. To do this, the researchers did a detailed analysis of 250 Belgian beers, and the aroma compounds in each. Using that data, they used AI to uncover the complex relationships between a beer’s ingredients, its flavor profile, and its overall consumer rating. By training machine learning models on this extensive dataset, they were able to create a system that can predict key aromas and appreciation scores without the need for human tasters. From there, they were able to fine-tune the recipe of an existing ale, adding specific aroma compounds that the AI suggested — which blind taste tests confirmed to be significantly better than the original. The scientists say their main goal is to “make better alcohol-free beer.”
