A Winnipeg MB school division has classified the sport of curling as a “high risk” activity. École Tuxedo Park students were invited to participate in 3 learn-to-curl sessions, but first, parents were asked to sign and submit permission slips. In doing so, they were expected to acknowledge that accidents can happen and the school division provides no insurance coverage for ambulance costs or other incidental medical expenses. The document reads, in part: “I understand that curling is considered a high-risk activity by Pembina Trails School Division.” Participants were also encouraged to wear approved helmets. Thomas Rempel-Ong, a parent of one of the prospective curlers, said he couldn’t help but laugh when he read the division’s classification of the non-contact sport: “How did we get to this point where, in a sense, we’re telling parents that letting your kid on the ice is a high-risk activity? This is Canada.”

THINGS YOU CAN SAY TO BOTH YOUR TODDLER AND YOUR DRUNKEN FRIEND:

You can’t nap here. You need to go to your bed.

We never touch our private parts in public.

Chew with your mouth closed.

Keep your fingers out of your nose.

I am not playing that song again. We have heard it 15 times. Put on your pants.

I know, couch is a funny word.

We need to use our “inside” voice.

Don’t point, it’s rude.

Yes, those are boobies, but we don’t touch those.

Please go back and wash your hands.

Do you really think whining will get you what you want?

I don’t have any more money. Please stop asking.

I am not going to ask you to sit down again. SIT DOWN.

Why are you holding yourself? Do you need to pee?

I told you to sit here. Why did you leave? You need to tell me when you’re going somewhere.

Kayleigh Barton, chair for Wrexham’s kids’ team, set up a fundraising page to raise £480 for new uniforms, and was surprised when she received an email saying that someone named Ryan had donated £1600. Barton’s first thought: “Who’s Ryan?’ She says when she “logged in and it said Ryan Reynolds, and I just said ‘oh my God’, I started shaking I just couldn’t believe it.”
