THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

My boyfriend broke up with me three months ago. I was devastated. He moved on. I'm still hurt and trying to get over it. But now he's all over social media talking about how lonely he is, how upset he is, and how hard it is to be "single". He doesn't ever say he made a mistake and wishes he had never dumped me. He is just complaining. I'm about to go off on him. He dumped me and has no right to complain about it. He lost the right to be sad in public when he made this decision. Do I leave it alone? I can't take it anymore. I'm about to go off on the guy. Do you agree that if you break up with someone, you give up the right to ask for sympathy? Shouldn't he be called out for this?

Signed

A man from Spain has broken the world record for the 100-meter sprint — while wearing high heels. Christian Roberto López Rodríguez donned 2.76-inch stilettos and ran the distance in 12.82 seconds, earning his 57th Guinness World Record. And listen to this: His time was only 3.24 seconds slower than eight-time Olympic gold-medal winner Usain Bolt’s 100-meter sprint world record. 34-year-old Rodríguez said: “In Spain, there are races like this, and they have always gone well for me.” LINK: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ct1QarMqdrA/

A recent article in Scientific American makes the case that not only can some insects feel pain, some can even feel joy. Lars Chittka writes that researchers have shown that bees and some other insects are capable of intelligent behavior that no one thought possible. Bees, for example, can count, grasp concepts of sameness and difference, learn complex tasks by observing others, and know their own individual dimensions, a capacity associated with consciousness in humans. They also appear to experience both pleasure and pain. In other words, it now looks like at least some species of insects—and maybe all of them—are sentient.

Jonah Hill’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady has taken to social media to call him a “misogynist” and “narcissist.” On Instagram, the surf instructor blasted the “Superbad” star by sharing screenshots allegedly sent by him that appear to reveal their past arguments. The alleged texts show Hill outlining his parameters for a “romantic partnership.” The two dated in 2021 for about a year.

Steve-O continues to outdo himself. This time he was in London performing a stunt that ended up getting him detained by local authorities. On Insta, he shared: “I was detained by police after doing this jump off the Tower Of London Bridge yesterday, but they were totally cool, and understood that I’m just super excited to be taping my THIRD (and craziest by far) comedy special…in London (where I was born!)”. In another post, Steve-O showed himself on top of a double-decker bus holding the Union Jack flag. He called the day “epic”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p6bwvzy

James Cameron and wife, Suzy, are selling their oceanfront California ranch for $33 million. The 100-acre property was purchased by the “Titanic” director in 1999 for $4.4 million. Cameron wrote the blockbuster “Avatar,” at the ranch, using an ocean-facing room as inspiration. Cameron says they are letting go of Hollister Ranch in Santa Barbara County because they spend most of their time in New Zealand. The 8,000 square-foot main house has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. The estate also has a 2,000-square-foot guesthouse and a tennis court, plus a 24,000-square-foot equestrian barn, which Cameron has used to store a helicopter and various other vehicles, including submarines used in his famous underwater expeditions.

Construction has been completed on the world’s biggest cruise ship at a shipyard in Finland. Royal Caribbean International’s “Icon of the Seas” is now undergoing sea trials ahead of its debut in October this year. When it sets sail, it will comfortably hold some 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew. The boat’s piece de resistance will be the world’s largest waterpark at sea. “Category 6” will feature 6 record-breaking water slides, but guests who want a more leisurely experience can also relax in the boat’s 7 pools and 9 whirlpools. And exactly how big is the world’s biggest cruise ship? A mammoth 365 meters long (nearly 1,200 feet) and weighing about 250,800 tonnes. A spokesperson said the company is positioning the Icon of the Seas as the “ultimate family vacation”. And it sounds like it may be just that. It features more than 40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained. With 20 decks and 8 neighborhoods to explore, the concept is to cater to every type of vacationer, with areas dedicated to young families, adults-only spaces, and everything in between. There are 28 types of accommodations, designed to be the “perfect home base” for the Icon of the Seas’ excursions throughout the Caribbean, departing from Miami year-round.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

Like pretty much everything else, the cost of getting married has jumped significantly in recent years. But it seems that some couples aren’t shy about asking total strangers for financial help. A Reddit user known as Skyon_High posted a pic of a car in her neighborhood that has the phrase, “Just married,” written on the back window — along with the couple’s Venmo username. (Venmo is a mobile payment service.) The Reddit user uploaded the photo to the “Wedding Shaming” subreddit, writing: “This is as tacky as it gets…. Not even a ‘buy the bride a drink’ just money [please]. Disappointed in my neighbor. [Shaking my head].” At least she was kind enough to redact the couple’s username and license plate in the photo. In a Reddit chat, Skyon_High wrote that she saw the parked car in Mount Lake Terrace, near Seattle. The post has received more than 1,200 upvotes and a “greedy” label from members of the Wedding Shaming subreddit.

HAPPIEST JOBS OF 2023:

These are the jobs in which people report a higher level of satisfaction, according to career experts…

1. Physical Therapist: One of the best parts of this job is getting to help others improve their health and resume their daily activities. In a survey, 4 in 5 physical therapists reported high professional satisfaction.

2. Firefighter: While being a firefighter can be dangerous, it can also be incredibly rewarding. And literally having your life depend on your coworkers can create bonds that often last a lifetime.

3. Teacher: For them, there is nothing more wonderful than seeing children achieve and progress. Teachers are happy in their jobs because they help develop a child’s personal, social, and emotional skills, and get to see their students grow up along the way.

4. Teaching Assistant: In spite of the fact that the pay isn’t the greatest, they report a lot of the same positives that teachers do. They love everything from the people they work with to their organizational culture and work freedom, according to one expert.

5. Quality Assurance Analyst: A what, now? These are the workers who test products and systems to make sure that they meet companies’ standards. These jobs are rated high as they get the chance to work with colleagues and bosses with independence, and contribute to the well-being of their company and its customers.
