Veterinary researchers have discovered that cats “glow” in the dark, according to a new study published in the journal Royal Society Open Science. Nightclub goers are familiar with the trippy sight of their white shirt or neon tiki drink seemingly aglow in the dark of the dance floor — an example of fluorescence under black lights. Scientists in Australia analyzed a museum’s collection of mammals to see how many glow in the dark with a UV light turned on. They found that 125 species had the fluorescent properties that allow them to glow in the dark under a UV light, including the domestic species of cat — no club lights required.

Hot Girl Summer” must be officially over. A big-name TikTok creator has come out to defend her body hair in an empowering post, and encourage anyone who wants to put down the tweezers and razor — and have a “hairy girl winter”. 20-year-old Spencer Barbosa has over 9 million followers. She dedicates most of her content to talking about body image, body acceptance and self-love, and now, she has opened up about her body hair, saying in a TikTok vid that “Body hair is natural, real and more than acceptable.” And while this shouldn’t be news to anyone, Barbosa is reminding people that you should never feel like you have to shave for someone else, because it “your body, your choice”. The influencer explained that she grew up feeling like she needed to eliminate all her body hair to feel attractive. But as she puts it, “If you want to have hairy legs…have hairy legs…If you despise hair and you don’t want hair on your body, remove the hair on your body.” She also took time to remind followers that having body hair isn’t “unhygienic” or “masculine” – it’s just something that everyone grows.

Ryan Reynolds admits he’s a work in progress when it comes to mental health. He was honored Monday in New York at Bring Change to Mind’s Revels & Revelations Gala, a mental health-focused nonprofit co-founded by Glenn Close. Speaking to press at the event, Reynolds addressed his own mental health struggles, revealing he finds himself spinning “out of control” at times, and said he has his “own little rituals” that help him stay grounded and keep his “mind from spinning out of control”. Reynolds said that when he becomes aware of those “out of control” moments, he meditates in an attempt to “take time” for himself to regroup.

Elon Musk allegedly came to Amber Heard’s defense amid talks she would be fired from “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Variety reports the X owner strong-armed Warner Bros. into keeping Heard cast as ‘Mera’ in the long-delayed “Aquaman” sequel. The story goes that director James Wan sent a letter to Heard’s attorney to share the decision that Heard would be dropped, citing a lack of chemistry with star Jason Momoa. But Warner decided not to fire Heard after her former boyfriend Musk and his attorney sent a “scorched-earth” letter to Warner, threatening to “burn the house down” if Heard was not reinstated.

It might not be the most important thing to have a discussion about – but it seems everyone feels the need to chime in with their 2 cents’ worth anyway: Do beans belong in chili? Costco recently re-released its signature Kirkland fall chili. Being Costco and all, it comes in a 4-pound (1.8kg) tub. It is made up of the “usual suspects”: beef, onions, cheese, and spices. But what has the internet all up in arms is the inclusion of beans – specifically kidney and pinto beans. Laura Lamb, who uses the TikTok handle @costcohotfinds, first posted a video celebrating the return of Kirkland chili saying: “It’s my favorite!” But that literally opened up a can of beans among TikTok’ers. User Alex McDonald commented: “There’s no beans in chili. I don’t know what this is, but it’s not chili.” Another user wrote: “That’s bean soup.” A bit of analysis shows that the controversy reflects regional differences. It seems that many people — particularly those from Texas — aren’t fans of legumes in their chili. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdfbrutk

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

If you’ve ever thought: “Wouldn’t it be awesome if my houseplants glowed in the dark?”, well, your time has come! Idaho-based biotech company Light Bio has received permission from the US Department of Agriculture to start selling its sell its glowing petunias. The genetically engineered plants produce a neon green hue, thanks to the addition of DNA from a type of bioluminescent mushroom. Light Bio says that while some other companies have engineered plants that produce a modest glow, their research has resulted in plants that glow much more brightly. The petunias emit light throughout the plant’s entire life cycle, but the flowers are particularly luminous, letting “you see almost into the spiritual core of these plants”, according to co-founder Keith Wood. His partner, Karen Sarkisyan, envisions a future lush with bioluminescent plants, like in the movie “Avatar”. The company plans to start shipping the plants early next year.
