Having a dog or cat helps to slow cognitive decline in older people, according to a new study from the University of Maryland. Nearly 650 people were given cognitive tests over a period of 13 years, and while all experienced some degree of mental decline, deterioration was generally slower in those who had pets. Researchers noted that pet ownership is associated with lower levels of stress, heart disease and, in the case of dogs, increased physical activity. It may also combat social isolation and loneliness, which have both been linked to cognitive decline. The researchers suggest that efforts should be made to ensure older people are able to live with pets.

Dietitians have long advised that one of the first rules of weight loss is to eat slowly, allowing your body time to feel full before eating more. But if you’re one of those who struggles to savor a meal, try this: A new study from the Netherlands found that people eat up to half as fast when they have to chew more, leading to about 20% less food consumption. This means that foods with hard, crunchy or chewy textures, which require more chewing, could facilitate weight loss by preventing you from eating too much at once.

On “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Chastain revealed that Swift sent her a break-up playlist after the pair met for the first time at the 2011 Met Gala. The 2 were sitting next to each other, and Chastain said that she had just been through a break-up, and they spoke about that and danced together, saying it “was such a fun night. And then the next day, I had an email from iTunes that said, like, ‘Taylor Swift’ or whatever, and I just thought that it was a Taylor Swift album.” But she later discovered that Swift, quote: “had made me a break-up playlist that she sent me! It looks like a stylish laptop bag, but it’s actually the world’s first microwave bag that actually lets you heat meals while on the go. The Willtex “Willcook” is made out of conductive fabric that allows the user to heat whatever’s inside up to 250°C (480°F). The bag, including its rechargeable battery pack, weighs just 280 grams. A couple who thought they purchased $10,000 worth of Walt Disney theme park gift cards for a family vacation later discovered they were for Disney’s online streaming service, Disney+. All $10,000 worth. TikTok’er Andie Coston revealed in a now-viral video that her parents had been planning to take 16 family members on a family vacation this Christmas, and went online to purchase $10,000 in gift cards to Disney parks and restaurants. But when they tried using the cards to book the Disney trip, they realized they’d accidentally bought a lifetime’s worth of gift cards for the company’s streaming service, Disney+. The good news? Following a deluge of comments and suggestions, Disney reached out to the family and were able to “turn the $10,000 of Disney streaming gift cards into $10,000 of Disney Parks gift cards.” LINK: http://tinyurl.com/3xfnytcw

THE WORST MOVIES OF 2023: (PART 1)

According to industry publication “Variety” critics Owen Gleiberman and Peter Debruge…

Ghosted: Ana de Armas is a CIA cutthroat and Chris Evans as the nice-guy farmer who stalks her to London. Dexter Fletcher doesn’t direct it so much as he keeps tossing random trash into the blender.

Asteroid City: Director Wes Anderson calls it an aria of “grief,” though the only grief I felt was that of being trapped in a stylized panorama so insistent it’s become a form of OCD.

Your Place or Mine: Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon play platonic best friends. But it’s like several bad movies rolled into one, with a romantic climax (set in an airport!) that’s like an episode of couples’ therapy.
