New research has found that the average person spends nearly 2½ hours a day “dreamscrolling”. That’s defined as using devices to look at dream purchases or things people would like to own someday. And while some might think that dreamscrolling is a big waste of time, 71% of people believe it’s time well spent, because doing so helps motivates them to reach their financial goals. The poll of 2,000 adults in the US also found that half of us dreamscroll while at work. By the way, that 2½ hours per day…works out to about 36 DAYS per year.

Spock’ has a new enemy. “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto was blasted by a Toronto restaurant for allegedly mistreating staff and causing a scene in front of other customers. “Mediterranean-ish bistro” Manita wrote on Instagram: “Zachary Quinto – an amazing Spock, but a terrible customer.” The statement continued, saying Quinto “Yelled at our staff like an entitled child after he didn’t reply to two texts to inform him his table was ready”, and “made our host cry and the rest of our brunch diners uncomfortable.” The restaurant asked Quinto to “take your bad vibes somewhere else” in the future. No comment from Quinto so far.

House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal is keeping his word on a promise he made to fans: There will be 5 new dragons in Season 2. SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com

A New York City couple found $100,000 in a safe at the bottom of a pond in Queens. James Kane and Barbie Agostini made the discovery while “magnet fishing”, a hobby that involves using metal detectors to find various items in bodies of water. They said that they had previously found many old safes, but they were usually empty or full of plastic bags, so they were stunned when they found that this one was stuffed with soggy $100 bills. Although the bills were found to be partly decomposed and stuck together, the couple estimated the safe contained as much as $100,000, in fairly recent currency. With no clues about who the rightful owner might be, Kane and Agostini called police to report their discovery and were told there is no evidence of a crime…and they can keep the cash.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

It can’t be ignored any longer: Ankle socks have gone the way of skinny jeans and the side part. Gen Z has served notice to 30- and 40-somethings that ankle socks are “out”, and crew socks are “in” again, according to trend reports. In fact, a writer for Kidspot, an Australian lifestyle news site, wrote last week: “Alright, millennials, brace yourselves…I’m here to talk to you about those ratty little pathetic excuses for socks you have on. Yes, I know they’re there. Even though they’re trying sooo hard to be invisible, I see them, and I’m sorry, but they’re officially cancelled.” And the trend is real: Fashion magazine In Style reported that showing off socks is “in again,” and last month, the New York Times wrote that we’re living in a “sock proud era.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5deb5kvx

If I asked you about the things that make you smile, what is the first thing you think of? According to a survey asking exactly that question, the #1 thing that is likely to “turn that frown upside down” is . . . going on a holiday. Bupa Dental Care in the US commissioned the survey of 2,000 adults in the US as part of National Smile Month (which was observed in May), to highlight the benefits of smiling. 46% of respondents agreed that simply having someone smile at them gives them a feeling of happiness, and this positive boost lasts for an average of 13 minutes. The bad news? An experiment found that just 21% of adults return the friendly gesture from a stranger. OK, now the info you’re really waiting for – aside from a vacation, here are the rest of the top 10 things that make us smile:

2. A sunny morning

3. Receiving a kind gesture from someone

4. Receiving a smile from someone

5. A loved one getting good news

6. Doing something that makes someone laugh or smile

7. Receiving a surprise gift

8. Winning money

9. Getting a thank you

10. Sitting in the sun
