World War I boosted the bra market. During the First World War, the U.S. War Industries Board asked American women to forgo their corsets—which required significant amounts of metal to construct, according to NPR. Instead, they were expected to switch to the less-demanding bra. The ladies did their part for the cause, freeing up to 28,000 tons of metal—enough to build two battleships—and changing female fashion from that moment forward.

A Texas woman was banned from her local Walmart after police say she ate half a cake and refused to pay for the missing portion. Wichita Falls Police were called to a Walmart on Greenbriar Road just after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday after receiving calls that a woman walked around the store eating half of a cake and refusing to pay for the whole item. The suspect, who has not been identified, entered the bakery section of the store and proceeded to eat half of a cake while walking through the aisles. Once at the register, the woman demanded half off because she was only buying half a cake. Police say she refused to pay for the missing half of the cake despite eating it on her way to checkout. She ultimately paid for the whole cake once police arrived and was barred from the store for theft. A similar incident took place at another Wichita Falls Walmart earlier this year when another woman was banned after police say she rode around the parking lot in an electric cart while drinking wine from a Pringles can.

The
owner of an Iowa architectural firm was arrested today for allegedly
hiding a camera in a conference room that was used by a female
employee to pump breast milk. Investigators allege that 67-year-old
Robert Carlson used a “spy pen” to secretly record 32-year-old
architect Jessica Clark inside the Iowa City office of the Carlson
Design Team. In mid-December, as she was pumping breast milk, Clark
noticed a leather portfolio with a pen attached on the seat next to
her. Upon examining the pen, Clark realized that it was actually a
camera with a USB connector. When she plugged the item into a tablet,
Clark found video of herself removing her bra and pumping milk. Clark
subsequently informed police of her discovery, prompting an
investigation that resulted in Carlson’s arrest on 22 “serious
misdemeanor” counts of invasion of privacy. Search warrants
executed at Carlson’s office and residence yielded electronic
devices containing 22 videos “of separate incidents where the
female victim was recorded actively pumping breast milk.” When
confronted by police, Carlson reportedly said he found Clark “very
beautiful and wanted to see what was underneath the female victim’s
blouse or shirt.” Investigators allege that Carlson illegally
recorded Clark for more than eight months last year.
