THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I've heard you share advice on jobs in the past, so hopefully you can give me a little advice. I'm trying to decide whether I stay working where I'm working now, or if I should start my own business. I went to school for four years to get the degree that was needed for this career. I'm still paying for that. I love what I do and enjoy working with the people here, but along the way I discovered my love for something that has been a hobby up until now. I'm being a little vague because I don't want to tip anyone off as to who I am. The hobby could easily become a career if I had more time to devote to it. My wife thinks I should stay with my current job for a few more years and then make a decision after our home and school loans are paid off. I'm leaning towards that too. Your thoughts?

A Washington Post Survey found that 59% of Americans think this is the best economy we’ve had since the late 90’s. (https://bit.ly/39qK69V)
A Gallup Poll found that 61% of Americans say they’re better off today than they were when President Trump took office. The other 39% would NEVER admit it because they don’t want to lose their Facebook friends.

61% is higher than the 45% who said they were better off at this time in Barack Obama’s Presidency and the 50% who were better off under Bush and Clinton. Wow! (https://bit.ly/3bAPHMK)

A drunken passenger who caused a plane to be diverted after attempting to eat his mobile phone when a woman rejected his advances is facing time behind bars. 44-year-old Matthew Flaherty was on an easyJet flight from Manchester Airport to Keflavik, Iceland, when he pulled a bottle of gin from his bag and began swigging it straight. He started flirting with a female passenger but after she ignored him, he told her to “F off” and screamed he was “going to kill her family.” Cabin crew members urged him to calm down and go back to his seat but Flaherty turned on them shouting death threats. EasyJet staff alerted the pilot to the escalating incident, who took the precaution of locking the cockpit door and diverting the plane to Edinburgh Airport, ruining the holidays of 142 passengers on board. As the flight began its descent, he started pulling apart his mobile phone and chewed the electrical parts. Flaherty pleaded guilty to conducting himself in a disorderly manner and failing to comply with cabin crew instructions. He also admitted to acting in a manner likely to endanger the aircraft, along with a third charge of shouting, swearing, and uttering threats of violence. He is due to be sentenced on March 9th. FUN FACT FOR YOU:Share this with your friends... they'll think you're really smart!

Humans are just one of the estimated 8.7 million species on Earth. Human beings may dominate the planet with our sprawling cities and far-reaching technology, but we are, in fact, just one species among some 8.7 million that live together on planet Earth. One 2011 study published in the journal PLoS Biology estimated that "the various forms of life on the planet included 7.8 million species of animals, 298,000 species of plants, 611,000 species of mushrooms, mold and other fungi, 36,400 species of protozoa, and 27,500 species of algae or chromists." And it's worth noting that the researchers did not venture to put an estimate on the number of bacteria.

A man has been arrested after being accused of accessing his neighbor’s Amazon account and ordering items using her credit card information, according to an arrest affidavit. On Sunday, Austin Police Department responded to a call at the Groves South Lamar Apartment complex located at 360 S. Lamar Blvd. Upon arrival, the officer was greeted by the victim. She told police that she had received a package from Amazon that she didn’t order, even though no one had permission to use her account or credit card. Later that evening, the victim received another email confirming a second order from Amazon, which she says she was able to cancel and have her money refunded. She was uncertain of when her account had been accessed but told police she suspected it was when she had logged on from her community apartment computer. Attached to the original package was delivery instructions, which advised the Amazon deliverer to call a foreign number once they arrived. Officers used this number to contact Timothy Simpkins, 41, who was posing under the victim’s name. Officers informed him that they had the packages and Simpkins gave them his location, still under the impression that the officer was the delivery driver. APD arrived to Simpkins’ location and was eventually arrested and charged with felony credit card abuse and his bail was set at $7,500. Police also say that Simpkins admitted to the crime.

An argument between two Michigan moms escalated into a physical fight Monday morning at an Ann Arbor middle school. Police say that the women started arguing around 9:00 a.m. on February 10th inside Slauson Middle School. The disagreement stemmed from the mothers’ children not getting along. Verbal sparring turned into a physical altercation around 9:20 a.m. The fight was during a dance recital for National African American Parent Involvement Day. The fight was not racially motivated, but the school was placed in a “soft lockdown,” Ann Arbor Public Schools spokesman Andrew Cluley said. Cluley added that the school routine resumed quickly after the police response. Both parents were not arrested but are being interviewed by police, and the investigation is ongoing.
