THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

My neighbor is mad at me over a jar of pickles. My daughter was next door last week for the afternoon. She was with her friend and they ended up eating a whole jar of pickles. I didn't know anything at all about this until my neighbor came over and yelled at me about the pickles. I didn't mean to make light of it, but it caught me off guard and made me laugh a little. That made her very angry. I told her I'd get her a new jar of pickles. She said she didn't want more pickles, she wanted my daughter to apologize. I reminded her that her daughter was also eating pickles, but that didn't go well. She said that my daughter was in charge because she's a little older. I tried to calm her down, but now she's not letting her daughter come over. What do I do? Any clue on this pickle predicament?

Signed – In A Pickle

A man in Cornwall, England, was arrested this week after biting a seagull who tried to steal his Big Mac. The 26-year-old man “claimed he was being attacked for his McDonald’s meal and in response, he grabbed the bird and bit it,” reports Cornwall Live. “He sunk his teeth into it before throwing it to the floor,” a police spokesperson told the site. “Officers had seen the incident and immediately went over and detained and took details from him.” The man told police officers he was “under the influence of drugs” and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. “The seagull was clearly injured by the incident but flew off before we were able to check on its welfare,” the rep said. “We don’t know what happened to it afterward.” Seagulls are notoriously aggressive around food but are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. A British police department took to social media with an important reminder: an appliance delivery to the wrong address is not a police emergency. The West Yorkshire Police said someone recently called their emergency number to report their new appliance — a freezer — had been delivered to the wrong address.

Some new research says pickles can help fight cavities.

A team from the University of California Davis Children’s Hospital has found that covering the nose and mouth decreased the risk of COVID-19 infection by 65 percent. Previously, researchers believed that mask-wearing was only beneficial to prevent transmission of the virus to others. But, as more studies have found, the piece of cloth doesn’t just stop a sick person from spreading the virus, but also protects healthy people from falling ill... Speaking of face masks, here’s a simple hack to make your basic paper mask even better at keeping your breathe particles in and outside particles out. https://www.tiktok.com/@oliviacuidmd/video/6841373365500955909

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit seeking either a paternity test on her goats or a refund — and she’s not kidding. Kris Hedstrom filed the suit against her neighbor, Heather Dayner, last month seeking DNA for the goats she purchased. Hedstrom paid Dayner $900 for five Nigerian dwarf goats in December. According to the lawsuit, Hedstrom believed the goats — Bella, Gigi, Rosie, Zelda and Margoat — could be registered with the American Dairy Goat Association, a group that records goat pedigrees. Registered goats have higher values than unregistered goats. Proving paternity would require about forty of the father goat’s hair follicles for a DNA test, so Hedstrom wrote Dayner a letter requesting the DNA in February. Dayner offered to refund the money in exchange for the goats. She said Hedstrom called police on her for three months straight and has trespassed on her farm. (https://bit.ly/38AkCYM)

Police in Louisiana were able to reel in a man captured on video swimming through a fish tank at a sporting goods store. 26-year-old Kevin Wise told KSLA-TV that he plunged into the indoor aquarium at a Bass Pro Shop in Bossier City last week to follow through on a promise he made to followers on the social media platform TikTok. “I said that if I got 2,000 likes I would jump in the tank,” Wise said. “I got way more than that and didn’t want to be a liar.” A video captured by shopper Treasure McGraw showed Wise swimming through the tank before climbing out and running from the store with wet clothes. Bass Pro Shops filed a complaint with the Bossier City Police Department Friday, saying it cost them money to empty out the 13,000-gallon aquarium and clean it after Wise’s swim. Wise was charged with simple criminal damage to property and released with a citation to appear in court. (https://bit.ly/2Z6qKF2)
