A disgraced former Alabama judge who admitted to stealing nearly $73,000 from a juvenile court fund and former legal clients has been sentenced to four years in prison. Douglas Lee Patterson, a 38-year-old former district judge in Limestone County, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in October to three felony charges, including using his position for personal gain, financial exploitation of the elderly, and theft. “It is fitting that Patterson has received a stern sentence for his crimes and that we have brought a measure of justice for his victims,” Attorney General Steve Marshall said in a statement. “He betrayed the citizens of Limestone County and exploited those who trusted him, stealing from the most vulnerable among us – children, the disabled and the elderly.” As part of a plea deal, Patterson, who resigned in July after being indicted last year, admitted stealing $47,800 from the Limestone County Juvenile Court Service Fund, which he oversaw as the county’s juvenile court judge. Prosecutors said he wrote seventy checks to himself from the fund. (https://bit.ly/3oD7wAM)

A Dunkin Donuts employee in Georgia was stabbed after an argument with customer over a doughnut. The incident began when the customer entered a Dunkin Donuts in Union City Saturday night and confronted the 17-year-old female employee about an order. The wild confrontation was caught on video. The customer, an unidentified man, can be seen brandishing a knife at the employee who says, “Don’t touch me,” while pushes him away. Another woman says, “Stop!” as the employee and the man exchange punches. According to an arrest report, before the stabbing, the man pulled up to the drive-thru, drove off, and then came back to the restaurant minutes later to hunt for the employee. WAGA-TV reported the attacked happened over a type of doughnut. The authorities are still searching for the man who faces an aggravated assault charge. (https://bit.ly/2ICu4lO)
