Dogs actually understand some English. Some owners of disobedient dogs may have trouble believing this, but dogs can learn to recognize a vocabulary of about 165 words. Unsurprisingly, dogs respond best to short words, as well as words with hard consonants like "t" or "r," which may explain why they can hear "treat" from three rooms away. If you want to try to expand your dog's vocabulary, be consistent—for example, always call a meal "dinner" instead of breakfast, lunch, or supper. And don't believe the myth: Old dogs can learn words just as well as young dogs.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A little-known Los Angeles-based actor has been indicted for running a massive Ponzi scheme that bilked investors out of roughly $230 million. Zachary Joseph Horwitz, who has credits in horror and science fiction flicks under the name Zach Avery, was charged by a federal grand jury with five counts of securities fraud, six counts of wire fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors allege the “White Crow” actor, who was arrested on April 6th, duped investors from 2014 through 2019 to secure $690 million in loans by telling them he was using the funds to acquire licensing rights to films that HBO and Netflix had agreed to distribute abroad, primarily in Latin America. Horwitz falsely claimed his company, 1inMM Capital LLC, would acquire the films due to its “solid relationships” with online platforms, but reps from HBO and Netflix say the companies had no dealings with the firm. Prosecutors said Horwitz began defaulting on loans in early 2019 and then fabricated emails to investors purportedly from Netflix and HBO to prolong the scheme, leading to the new charges of aggravated identity theft. MOMENT OF DUH: Brought to you by RadioSavings.com

A Florida man stole two police cruisers and led officials on a multi-county chase that ended with his arrest on Thursday. 33-year-old Xavier Javern Cummings remained in jail with no bond Friday after he was arrested on suspicion of burglary, eluding law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a felon, firearm theft, motor vehicle theft, and driving with a suspended license. The chase started when Cocoa, Florida, police were called to a disturbance at a hotel and someone took off in a patrol sedan. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a statement it joined a northbound chase. One of the Volusia cruisers pushed the sedan off Interstate 95, where it became stuck in the woods. But the suspect got into another Cocoa unit, an SUV, and drove north again. “He takes a large container of police-issued mace with him,” Volusia Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood said. “And now we continue the chase for another probably eight or ten miles.” Police radio traffic revealed there was concern a police gun was in the vehicle. “After units along I-95 successfully deployed stop sticks, the suspect again ran off the highway and into a muddy median around the 258-mile marker” the Volusia office said in its statement. It was there that Cummings was captured.(https://nbcnews.to/3o0r7vl)
